Don't even think about running wild

Don't even think about running wild

(The story continues from Chapter 6)

"I'm sorry," Jiang Chuan Gu said first. "I really didn't know you were about to disappear."

Lin Chaoying didn't say much. She stood up, took the cake out of the freezer, and said, "I don't even remember how many days it's been here. Let me take a picture to let my fans know I'm safe." She unwrapped the cake and took out the candles. "Who would have thought you'd spend your 31st birthday at the police station? Come to think of it, it's been six years since I celebrated your birthday, hasn't it?"

Jiang Chuan Gu felt like he was dreaming. Many words were stuck in his throat, unable to come up or down. He gradually lost control of his expression and lowered his head to cover it up.

"What are you doing?" Lin Chaoying sighed and advised, "Back then, who could have known when I would disappear? Maybe the time had come and my soul had to return to my body. I still haven't figured out the truth about those years. It's all in the past. The first thing you should do is let your fans know you're safe. Hurry up."

"I..." Jiang Chuan Gu choked up, took out his phone from his pocket, quickly snapped a picture of the cake, and posted it on Weibo: A very sweet cake.

Lin Chaoying urged them to hurry up and leave: "Alright, go back and rest. I'll have Zhou Pei clean up here."

Jiang Chuan Gu immediately stood up and asked anxiously, "Where are you going?"

"Jiangchuan Valley," Lin Chaoying said solemnly, "Remember what I told you, our relationship is just a dream, don't take it too seriously. Secondly, please keep the matter of your soul leaving your body a secret. There will be changes in Li Chao's case in a few days, I will let you know. You don't need to worry about or ask about anything else."

They accompanied each other for almost 10 years during their most confused and ignorant times. Lin Chaoying could see through this thin veil of secrecy, but she didn't want to break it, and she wouldn't give Jiang Chuan Gu the chance to do so.

Jiang Chuan Gu realized that she could always see through him, even after they had been separated for several years, even if their relationship had quietly changed the moment she disappeared, and even if he tried his best to hide it, she could still see through the reason.

Lin Chaoying has always been like this: intelligent and direct.

Jiang Chuan Gu swallowed his bitterness repeatedly, only daring to glance at her out of the corner of his eye. When the long-awaited reunion after six years finally arrived, the countless rehearsals he had made in his heart shattered like bubbles, losing all weight.

He stood up, tentatively took out his phone, and asked cautiously, "Let's exchange contact information. You can tell me about Li Chao's matter."

"Okay." Lin Chaoying didn't make eye contact, took out her phone with one hand, opened WeChat, and reached out to scan the QR code. Jiang Chuangu's hand suddenly moved back. Without thinking much, she continued to move her phone forward, trying to align the QR code.

"Beep-" The phone rang crisply, and at the same time, "plop-" a drop of water landed on Lin Chaoying's finger. She looked up in alarm, her wet and red eyes lowered, staring at the phone, silent, pitiful and aggrieved.

"No..." Lin Chaoying's mind went blank for a moment, frantically trying to recall if she had said anything nasty. No, she hadn't.

She scratched her head. "Right now, the most important thing is Li Chao's case. I didn't mean anything by it."

She had witnessed Jiang Chuan Gu's sensitive and conflicted nature firsthand; it was practically a form of self-deception and self-brainwashing. How could this man, with his aloof and unapproachable demeanor, be so vulnerable inside?

That's exactly what I can't stand about him.

"I know, I'll adjust myself." Jiang Chuan Gu's voice choked with emotion as he left with his head down.

Lin Chaoying suddenly felt a pang of guilt.

Zhou Pei, who had run up from the corner, asked, "Sis, Jiang Chuan Gu is your ex-boyfriend? You cheated on him?"

"Get out!" Lin Chaoying cursed speechlessly.

-

These past two days, the guesthouse has kept its doors locked, and Zhou Pei and Linlin have added surveillance cameras to the front and back of the courtyard, now achieving full coverage and no blind spots in the entire Hoh Xil region.

Lin Chaoying eats three meals a day as usual, waiting for her body to recover while also waiting for news from 12th Street.

I used my powers too frequently last time, and now, let alone astral projection or eavesdropping, I get so tired after just a few steps that I need to lean against a wall.

Mom sent a message: "Next month, your dad and I are coming to visit you?"

Lin Chaoying didn't know when the case would end, so she could only say, "I've been a bit busy lately, so don't come anymore. I'll come home to see you all in July."

Mom replied, "That's fine too."

Lin Chaoying saw the "typing..." indicator flashing back and forth in the WeChat chat window and asked, "Is something wrong?"

Mom replied: "It's okay, don't be angry with your dad. He was really traumatized by the car accident last year and stayed up for several nights taking care of you."

Lin Chaoying replied: [Mom, I've never blamed you, I only blame myself. I've been really busy lately. I'll definitely go back in July, okay? Tell Dad not to overthink it.]

Mom replied: 【Okay.】

Lin Chaoying closed WeChat, opened Weibo, and saw the top trending topic: [Jiang Chuan Valley Returns Home]

Clicking on the entry, it was full of fans' joy at Jiangchuan Valley's return, along with recommendations for upcoming movies and works, and even some teammates' fans spreading rumors.

The matter seemed to have been settled, but her mind was in complete turmoil.

Who was the nurse who brainwashed Linlin?

Who brutally murdered Le Chao?

Why was Jiangchuan Valley framed for the crime?

How did the bald, scarred man disappear from the surveillance footage in an instant?

Too many questions weighed on her mind, and she felt a vague unease.

A notification sounded on my phone, displaying the following message: "[12th Street has taken over the May 5th massacre case. See you at the guesthouse tonight.]"

Is it really related to people with superpowers?

Lin Chaoying replied: 【Okay.】

Things are getting more and more complicated.

"Bang—" A loud noise came from the courtyard gate. People rushed over and saw a man holding a knife about the length of his forearm in one hand, which gleamed coldly in the night and exuded a dangerous aura.

Lin Chaoying stood at the door, the alarm bells blaring, and took a few steps back.

The man stepped closer on the stone pavement. When I saw his face clearly, I noticed his upright and dignified demeanor. He looked very familiar.

Where have I seen this before?

Lin Chaoying asked, "Hello, our guesthouse is temporarily closed."

The man asked menacingly, "Where is Jiangchuan Valley? Where are the people from Twelfth Street?"

It was him! Lin Chaoying remembered! The man who stormed into the police station and beat up Jiang Chuan Gu that day! Wasn't he Li Chao's younger brother?

I heard Jiang Xu shout at that time, "Dawn?"

How did he know that Jiangchuan Valley was with him? And how did he know about Twelfth Street?

"Speak!" Dawn roared, his expression ferocious and eerie.

"We're doomed." Lin Chaoying was completely exhausted. She tried to comfort her, saying, "They're upstairs. Put the knife down, and we'll go in and talk slowly."

As soon as he finished speaking, Li Ming raised his knife. Lin Chaoying reacted quickly. The moment the knife struck the ground, she squatted down, picked up the shovel by the door, and "chop—" the wooden stick was chopped in half at shoulder level.

Sharp wood shavings grazed Lin Chaoying's cheek, leaving a bloody mark.

She fell to the ground shouting, "Zhou Pei! Someone come here!"

The shouts enraged Li Ming. His movements were clearly those of a trained martial artist. He kicked aside Lin Chaoying, who was blocking the door, and smashed the glass doorway with his bare hands.

The force was terrifying. Lin Chaoying clutched her stomach and fell against the stone bench. She grabbed a cup from the table and smashed it hard against his head with a dull thud. Li Ming turned his head.

Lin Chaoying gritted her teeth and stood up, still holding the stick that had just been chopped in half. She spat out the blood from her mouth, raised her chin, and said, "In the middle of the night, you dare to cause trouble in my house?"

"Lin Chaoying!" Jiang Chuan Gu heard the commotion and ran down from his room, only to find the courtyard in disarray and a man and woman facing off.

Li Ming, who was initially furious, turned around immediately upon hearing the sound and charged over like a bull.

Lin Chaoying ran forward quickly and used the sharpest side of the wooden stick in her hand to stab him in the shoulder, but she didn't have much strength and her hand slipped, leaving a shallow wound on his back.

Li Ming turned around with disgust and grabbed her arm, watching as she was thrown away. Jiang Chuan Gu picked up a fruit knife from the table, leaped up and delivered a flying kick, stabbing the knife into the shoulder on the side where he was holding the knife the instant he kicked away.

Freed from her restraints, Lin Chaoying went limp and fell into the shards of glass.

"Sister!" Zhou Pei and Linlin arrived late, lifting her upper body. Zhou Pei said, "It's okay, Linlin has already called the police."

Li Ming and Jiang Chuan Gu fought relentlessly, each move deadly. They fought from the courtyard to the first-floor room, and as they gradually lost their strength, they grabbed whatever was at hand and used it against each other, their bodies stained with blood.

Lin Chaoying said anxiously, "Quickly go help Jiang Chuangu, this person is here to kill Jiang Chuangu!"

Linlin was extremely careful not to touch her wound, and supported her gently, saying, "You should go now."

Zhou Pei picked up a stick and joined the melee.

"Sis, can you move? Let's find another place. There are shards of glass all over the ground, and they've all gotten into your legs," Linlin said anxiously.

Something's wrong with Li Ming! Lin Chaoying didn't care about anything else, took out her phone from her pocket, and made a call.

Three attempts in a row failed to connect. She was in pain and scared, her forehead covered in sweat, watching as Jiang Chuan Gu and Zhou Pei struggled more and more.

"I can't just sit here and wait to die." Lin Chaoying closed her eyes and meditated, trying to have her soul leave her body. Suddenly, a tearing pain shot through her chest, and "Pfft—" a mouthful of blood spurted out uncontrollably.

Jiangchuan Valley caught a glimpse of the commotion and panicked. He was struck in the face with a stick, his head was hit violently, and all he could see were blurry images.

Suddenly, gusts of cold wind swept through, and all the shards of glass on the ground slowly floated in the air, swirling around dawn, inching closer and closer. He tried to pass through, the glass cutting his skin, piercing his flesh...

At the same time, the evil shadow passed through everyone and stood in front of Dawn. He raised his hand, and what fell was water, which wrapped around Dawn's nostrils. No matter how much he struggled, the water tightly enveloped his face.

The water began to flow and disperse as soon as he fell to the ground.

Qin Ming, wearing a trench coat and arms crossed, said nonchalantly, "You dare to act recklessly on my turf?"

"You're finally here." Lin Chaoying leaned against Linlin's arms with relief when she saw him.

"Lin Chaoying!" A girl in black with a high ponytail ran in from outside the door. "Oh my god! How did you get yourself into this state again!"

Jiang Chuangu struggled to his feet, stumbled into the courtyard, knelt beside her, and whispered, "Lin Chaoying? It's alright..."

Linlin was so frightened that she only glanced at it a few times, while Zhou Pei saw it all clearly and collapsed to the ground in disbelief.

Lin Chaoying shook her head, "I'm fine." She then said to the woman, "Qian Fei, do you have any medicine? My chest feels like it's going to explode."

"What are you trying to prove?" she yelled as she searched her pockets for her medication, only to find she hadn't brought any. She shouted at Qin Ming, "Boss! Did you bring any suppressants?! Lin Chaoying is dying!"

"I just got off the plane and came straight here! No way!" Qin Ming rummaged through his pockets. "Oh dear, the room is full of injured people. I'll go and bring Kong Yue over!"

Qian Fei urged him, "Then hurry up and go!"

"Wait for me! I'll be there soon!" Qin Ming waved his hand, leaving behind a blur.

Lin Chaoying felt her eyelids growing heavier and heavier, and she heard a faint echo in her ear: "Lin Chaoying... wake up... don't sleep..."

"Lin Chaoying! Someone is bullying me! You have to protect me!"

"Lin Chaoying! You have to give me a big gift for my 18th birthday!"

"Lin Chaoying! You'll burst into tears when you see the gift I prepared!"

"Lin Chaoying, is the outside world really that good?"

In a daze, she saw a vast lake, rippling in the sunlight...
