Reunion on the fifth day

Reunion on the fifth day

With a "click," the sound of the latch turning rang out, and Lin Chaoying pushed open the wooden board above her head.

No one expected that the place connected to the underground of the River God Temple was actually Wang Ge's old house.

Lin Chaoying struggled to climb out of the well. The courtyard gate was ajar, unchanged from their last visit, indicating that no one had been there during that time. To prevent any outsiders from entering, she fastened the gate and locked it from the inside.

Jiang Chuan Gu dragged and pulled Wang Ge's body out of the small room, then found a bed sheet in the cabinet and spread it on himself.

Lin Chaoying's bag contained only iodine and a few gauze pads. Fortunately, there was still running water in the yard. She called Jiang Chuangu over and carefully tore off the clothes that were stuck to his shoulder, exposing the burned area. She found a bowl in the kitchen, washed it, soaked the gauze in water, and then covered his shoulder with it.

Jiang Chuan Gu endured the icy touch and the stinging pain in his skin, his neck veins bulging and his whole body trembling.

Lin Chaoying gently wiped away the surface dust and dirt, constantly changing the gauze and covering the wound with cool water, saying, "Let's treat it simply first to prevent it from getting worse. We'll go find Kong Yue and the others later to see if they have any medicine."

As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of gongs and drums rang out throughout the village.

The rhythmic sound of drums pierced the silent night, and the two people in the courtyard immediately fell silent, staring nervously at the doorway. Outside the courtyard, rustling voices rose as villagers left, grumbling under their breath.

Lin Chaoying closed her eyes and listened carefully to the source of the conversation and drumming.

Man: "Hey, what are you doing in the middle of the night?"

Woman: "It must be serious! We need to go get it checked out!"

Man: "Could it be that something happened to the river god?!"

From the source of the drumming came Wang Shao's voice: "I woke everyone up in the middle of the night because the River God Temple was burned down! This is the most important thing in our Taoyuan Village! But the village committee quickly found the culprits who deliberately caused the destruction! It was these three!"

!!

Lin Chaoying snapped out of her daze, "It's over! Those three must have been arrested by Wang Shao! He's saying they started the fire at the River God Temple!"

"What!" Jiang Chuan Gu said in disbelief, "Wang Shao is also a superhuman? I've seen Qin Ming's superpowers before. He dealt with Wang Ge with ease. How could he have been captured by the villagers!"

Lin Chaoying suspected: "It should be Chu Tang who captured them, and now it is the villagers who are using the river god to punish them."

Jiangchuan Gu put on his coat, stood up, and said, "Then let's go save them now!"

Lin Chaoying shook her head: "You can't go. I'll float over to the scene first to see the specific situation. You stay here and watch over me and Wang Ge. After I figure things out, I'll come back and discuss the next steps with you."

As she spoke, she wrapped his shoulder tightly with clean, cool gauze, saying, "Don't let the wound get infected again."

Jiang Chuan Gu carried her disembodied body into the large room, locked the door, and stood guard inside, keeping a close eye on the courtyard gate, holding a rusty machete he had found in the warehouse.

When Lin Chaoying arrived at the River God Temple, the scene before her eyes made her dizzy.

Qian Fei, Kong Yue, and Qin Ming were bound hand and foot and lay on the ruins of the temple courtyard. Wang Shao held a torch and stood in front of the burned-out River God Temple.

She discovered something very interesting: the so-called golden statue of the river god was actually charred black. She had thought that although it was a fake river god, it was at least made of pure gold and had some value.

Unexpectedly, the river god was fake, and the golden statue was also fake.

The villagers were worshipping nothing more than an empty shell made of fired mud.

Lin Chaoying approached and saw that Qian Fei and Qin Ming were unconscious, their eyes closed, while Kong Yue's eyes were still blinking. She then entered Qian Fei's body, slowly opened her eyes, and called out, "Kong Yue!"

Kong Yue frowned, as if she had lost all her strength, and shuffled her body along the ground to look at her, saying, "Qian Fei? You're awake?"

Qian Fei winked at her, "I'm Lin Chaoying!"

Kong Yue exclaimed in surprise, "Aying! What brings you here? You and Jiang Chuan Gu should leave quickly and find the nearest person in charge of Twelfth Street!"

Lin Chaoying didn't have time to ask the others what had happened, she just said, "Tell me first, is there any way I can save you now?"

Kong Yue said, "Qian Fei and Qin Ming are under mind control, and the villagers are probably brainwashed as well. My suitcase's combination is 1205. Inside, there's a small bottle labeled Brad. Drinking the potion will free you from the control."

Lin Chaoying was about to leave when she realized, "I transmigrated as a soul, not as a body. Even if I got it, the villagers are blocking the temple gate right now, so I can't bring it in."

Kong Yue glanced around calmly and said, "First, try to untie the ropes for me. I have other ways to bring them both back to their senses, but we can't use our powers in front of so many people. How are we going to leave? The key is that we can't hurt ordinary people. We can only try to find a solution at the source..."

source?

Lin Chaoying slowly dragged herself along, picked up a piece of broken wood from the ground, turned her back, and cautiously approached Kong Yue, repeatedly tugging at the rope on her arm.

She lowered her voice and said, "You just need to bring them to their senses, and leave the rest to me. I will go to Chu Tang, enter her body, and find a way to control Wang Shao and release you."

"Are you crazy!" Kong Yue exclaimed in shock, her hand still cutting the rope, as she stopped her. "The level of an ability user isn't just about how much of their ability their body can handle; it's more about the strength of their mental power. Chu Tang's ability may seem harmless, but Qin Ming was easily controlled, which means her level is much higher than ours. Don't take the risk!"

Lin Chaoying said, "Didn't you say you had a medicine that could stop her from controlling me? I'll go back and drink your medicine first!"

Kong Yue: "No way! Do you even know where Chu Tang is or what she looks like? None of the three of us have seen her face!"

"Kong Yue!" Lin Chaoying didn't want to continue with this nagging and said directly, "If there were no problem with this village, the Twelfth Street police would have already come in! How do you think Jiang Chuan Gu and I would escape! If you're worried about me, use your methods to quickly bring them to their senses and prevent them from having a direct conflict with the villagers!"

Kong Yue did not speak.

Lin Chaoying assured: "Twenty minutes! Qin Ming has a watch. After you regain your senses, stall the villagers for twenty minutes. If they haven't been controlled and left by Chu Tang by then, it means I've failed, and you'll have to figure something out yourselves!"

The taut rope around her wrists suddenly loosened, and Kong Yue clutched it tightly in her hand, pretending to remain bound.

Lin Chaoying gave her a confident look, "These two are yours!"

Jiang Chuan Gu saw Lin Chao Ying sit up in bed and asked, "How is it?"

Lin Chaoying gave a brief explanation of everything, outlining her plan, and then took out her phone, saying, "Log in to your Weibo account on my phone."

Jiang Chuan Gu didn't understand, but he still helped her log in, and noted the account and password in the memo. "Apart from my phone, the other logins are not stable. You can log in directly with the password next time."

They went back to the hotel, knocked out the receptionist, found Kong Yue's room, and because there was no room key, Jiang Chuangu kicked the lock. The wooden door was not sturdy to begin with, and the two of them came in like bandits, took all of Kong Yue's luggage, and returned to Jiang Chuangu's room.

After entering the password, they found the "Brad" potion that Kong Yue had mentioned. Lin Chaoying drank half of it and made Jiang Chuangu drink the other half. Then they closed the luggage and hid it under the bed.

Lin Chaoying explained, "You stand near the River God Temple. If the villagers suddenly disperse, bring the three of them to Wang Sui's house to rescue me. If they don't disperse, take a picture of the villagers surrounding them after 45 minutes, post it on Weibo, and say that you accidentally came to Taoyuan Village, but the experience was not friendly."

She then asked, "Do you remember how we handled public opinion regarding Lei Zi before?"

“I remember,” Jiang Chuangu said. “Spending money to build private domains and marketing accounts.”

Lin Chaoying: "That's right. If it really comes to this, remember not to mention superpowers or the river god. Instead, steer the conversation toward an unrest by ignorant villagers, let the public see it, and force the police to come in!"

Jiang Chuan Gu grabbed her arm. "And what about you!"

"Me?" Lin Chaoying said frankly, "Don't forget what my special ability is. All you have to do is remember what I said, then wait nearby and pray that I can beat Chu Tang. You won't have to spend tens of thousands of yuan on public opinion anymore."

Her hands were trembling when she pushed open the door to Wang Sui's house.

She couldn't tell whether it was the fear of facing an unknown force or the excitement of taking the initiative to fight again; in any case, her heart was about to jump out of her body.

An eerie silence permeated the courtyard. As Lin Chaoying stepped onto the ground, she smelled that familiar fragrance again, as always, like a venomous snake, lingering around her nostrils. She felt enveloped by this dangerous aura, making her feel completely at a loss.

She arrived at the room directly opposite the door and knocked.

A melodious, soft voice came from inside the room, "Come in."

Pushing open the door, in the dim light at the center of the room, sat a bewitching and eerie woman. She was pale, thin, with long hair cascading down her back, quietly drinking tea.

Lin Chaoying politely joked, "Miss Wang Sui, you really have a refined taste. Drinking tea in the middle of the night, aren't you afraid you won't be able to sleep?"

Wang Sui gestured to the seat opposite him, "Please sit down."

Lin Chaoying took off her shoes and sat on the futon opposite her. Watching her seriously make tea, she couldn't help but say sarcastically, "Do you know your house burned down?"

Wang Sui didn't stop what he was doing. He handed her a small cup of tea, his eyes filled with subtle disdain, and said, "Aren't you sitting in my house right now?"

Lin Chaoying picked up the tea, but didn't drink it. She simply held it under her nose and sniffed it lightly. After putting it down, she said irritably, "Your husband's family, the River God Temple..."

"Heh." Wang Sui laughed, "You're really joking. Won't you try some? It's good tea."

Lin Chaoying wrinkled her nose and shook her head, maintaining a fake smile, and said, "The last time I saw you was in the middle of the night, and this time it's the middle of the night again..."

Wang Sui feigned humility: "Last time, I was too tired because I had just finished the River God Festival, so I didn't entertain you properly. It's my fault."

“No.” Lin Chaoying shook her head. “I’m talking about the time at the orphanage.”

Wang Sui froze as he drank his tea, staring at her with a blank expression.

Lin Chaoying scrutinized him and continued, "Chu Tang, we meet again?"

A smile involuntarily crept onto Wang Sui's lips, his eyes brimming with undisguised aggression. "Lin Chaoying, you're the first to recognize me again, but this time, I've really been waiting for you for a long time..."
