Chapter 36 Acting Like a Scoundrel

After a satisfying meal, the arrival of summer brings a somewhat muggy atmosphere.

Zhou Lang and I, having a rare moment of free time, moved our small stools to the courtyard and sat together, gazing up at the starry sky, lost in thought.

"Ah Hua, what are we doing?" Zhou Lang, perhaps a little bored, looked up and asked, puzzled.

"Let's look at the stars and bask in the moonlight," I said earnestly, gazing into the distance.

This is the thing I've done most diligently every day during my thousands of years of cultivation: sitting under the moon to absorb the essence of the sun and moon to increase my spiritual power.

Now that my magic is sealed and I can no longer cultivate, I still feel that as long as I get enough sun, I can still be saved.

"Why are you sunbathing under the moon? It's not warm enough for you." Zhou Lang began to press for answers.

"Have you heard? The sun is the mother of the earth, and the moon is the father of heaven and earth. The more we bask in the sun, the longer we live," I said gently.

"Oh..." Hearing me say that, Zhou Lang seemed to remember something, stood up, and ran to my window to move the single flower that was planted on the mountain god's seal in front of us.

"Let's let our flowers dry in the sun too; it'll help them live longer, right?"

I haven't had time to notice this flower lately. When I saw it, my instinctive reaction was, "How is this flower still alive?"

I picked up the potted plant and examined it carefully: "It's probably because there's still some immortal energy left in this seal. After all, it's a celestial object. This plant absorbed the immortal energy from the seal and gained sentience, which is why it survived. Hmm, I'll try putting a plant on it sometime."

"Zhou Lang, who's prettier, me or this flower?" I, always looking for trouble, started joking with Zhou Lang again.

"Ah Hua, beautiful." Zhou Lang rested his face on his hands, staring blankly at me and the flower in his hand.

"If you had to choose between me and this flower, which would you choose?" I persisted, just as I was smugly waiting for Zhou Lang to say that he would choose me.

"Of course I chose this flower. Only you, little flower spirit, would ask such a stupid and childish question." Zhou Lang's gaze, which had been fixed on me, suddenly flashed with a sharp disdain, and he reached out and forcefully snatched the potted plant from my hand.

I was so startled that I stumbled and tumbled off the small stool: "You, you, you, didn't you say you would only come out at midnight? How come you're out so early?"

"I...I...what do you mean, 'I'? You're quite bold in front of Zhou Lang, aren't you? Why are you so timid and cowardly in front of me? I've overestimated you, you little flower spirit."

"Who says I'm a coward? Everyone's scared when you appear out of nowhere!" I said, tilting my head back, feigning composure.

He stood up with me and placed the flower next to my head, comparing it to my face while pulling at each of my features: "Let me see where you're prettier than this flower? Is it your nose? Your mouth? Your chin? Hmm? Or this?" Finally, he poked the lump of flesh on my chest.

He paused, then with a hint of embarrassment, withdrew his hand and put it behind his back. Finally, he shamelessly declared, "I don't think any flower is as beautiful and delicate as you."

I was stunned for a while before I realized that I had been taken advantage of by that kid again. I always seem to be the one who gets the upper hand.

How could I sit idly by and wait to die?

If he tries to be a scoundrel with me, then I have to be even more of a scoundrel! Only then can I feel at peace.

I arrogantly stepped forward, mimicking his actions by pinching his face, poking his nose, flipping open his eyes, pulling his mouth, and finally pinching his ample pectoral muscles: "That's still more beautiful and charming than yours, this, this, this!"

Clearly, my unconventional and rogue behavior left him dumbfounded.
