Chapter 20 Why am I the one comforting him?

He spotted a burly man in brocade robes passing by and then pounced on him with a "thump".

She lay prostrate on the bluestone slab and, with tears streaming down her face, clung tightly to the ankle of the man in brocade robes: "Kind sir, have pity on me, I haven't eaten for three days."

The man in brocade robes was startled by the beggar's sudden and tight embrace and shouted, "You filthy beggar, get off me!"

He wanted to kick him away in disgust, but he didn't expect the person under his feet to be so strong. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't shake him off and could only stare helplessly.

He lay on the ground and continued shamelessly, "My lord is kind. If you give me some money, everything will be fine and all your wishes will come true."

The man in brocade robes seemed about to say something, but the people at his feet didn't give him a chance to speak, repeatedly saying, "Sir, you are kind; sir, you are lucky."

Finally, the man in brocade robes became extremely impatient with the nagging.

Helpless, he pulled a silver leaf from his sleeve and tossed it beside him to send him on his way.

Silver leaves! I can't believe it, they're worth half a year's expenses for me!

I was completely stunned by his ridiculously persistent pestering.

He gave him a thumbs up with great admiration: "Brilliant!"

He smugly weighed the silver coin in his hand, returned to my side, and plopped down again.

She said gently, "This is nothing. You might get a surprise silver ingot from a generous wealthy person! You need to learn to judge people! Then seize the opportunity and don't give them a chance to object."

"But being driven away like this..."

"Isn't it undignified to be chased away? When you're reduced to a beggar, dignity is no longer just a word you possess. Can dignity put food on the table?"

He answered my question in a very nonchalant tone.

I benefited greatly from listening to him speak, and I have great respect for his insight and courage.

With a sincere and admiring look, I asked, "Brother, do you take on apprentices?" I had to seize this opportunity to avoid going hungry.

He stroked his chin thoughtfully, looking somewhat troubled.

"How about we split the money I receive 30/70?"

Seeing his silence, I unleashed my ultimate move: "50/50!" Put aside whether I'm at a disadvantage or not, let's learn the skills first.

He smiled and said, "It's not that I don't want to teach you, but I learned my skills from our elder brother. If you want to learn, you'll have to join our Beggars' Clan."

"I'll join!" I raised my hand in agreement without hesitation.

Isn't it better to be organized?

"Really want to join? Won't you reconsider?" he asked me again to confirm.

"No need to consider it!" I stated firmly.

"Alright! Shall I take you to our gang and introduce you?"

I glanced at the sky and saw that it was getting late, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity, so I readily agreed.

Seeing him smile, she stood up and said, "Then come with me, young lady!"

Overjoyed, I quickly patted Wen Heng, who was sleeping beside me, and said, "Zhou Lang, get up quickly."

When I called out to Wen Heng, he immediately opened his eyes, darted around, and obediently stood up.

But when he saw the man next to him, his face suddenly darkened, and he unconsciously hid behind me, glaring at me with a menacing look.

After being glared at by Wen Heng, the man spread his hands innocently and asked me, "And who is this?"

“This is my husband, Zhou Lang. You don’t mind if I bring him along, do you?” I quickly explained.

The man smiled knowingly, then politely cupped his hands in a fist and palm salute to Wen Heng, saying, "My name is Ye Chen. I have long admired Young Master Zhou..."

Wen Heng, standing behind me, showed no appreciation and tugged at my sleeve: "Ahua, let's go home."

I smiled awkwardly and tried to smooth things over with Ye Chen: "Young Master Ye, please don't mind, he has a problem here." I pointed to my head to indicate.

Then she quickly changed the subject: "My name is Ahua. It's getting late, so I'll trouble Young Master Ye to show me the way."

Ye Chen suddenly realized: "Oh, please, Miss Ahua."

I turned around and patted Wen Heng on the shoulder, saying, "Zhou Lang, be good. Ahua has something important to do today, so we'll go back later."

Unexpectedly, Wen Heng was still holding onto my clothes tightly, standing there with a displeased expression, refusing to leave: "Ahua, let's go home!" he pleaded again.

What's wrong with this kid today? His stubbornness is acting up again. I yelled, "If you don't leave, Ahua will get angry."

This phrase always worked; Wen Heng puffed out his cheeks and followed me angrily.

We followed Ye Chen for a short while before turning into a corner of an empty alley. Ye Chen then stopped and nodded to me: "Miss Ahua, please wait here. I'll go and greet you first, and then call someone to come and meet you."

I nodded in response, "Thank you for your trouble, Young Master Ye."

The faint, receding footsteps of Ye Chen faded away after a long time, indicating that the place Ye Gongzi went to was quite far away.

It will probably take a while to make the round trip.

I glanced around at the houses, all of which were somewhat dilapidated and showed no signs of human habitation, but I didn't think much of it.

After all, the gang I joined wasn't anything to bring glory to my ancestors. This place is quite suitable for homeless people to take shelter from the wind and rain.

Perhaps those who went out to beg have not yet returned, so it is normal that this place is relatively quiet.

However, at this moment my body was very weak and powerless. The two cornbreads I had just eaten not only failed to restore my strength, but actually made me feel tired.

So he randomly found a dilapidated doorway and sat down on the steps in front of it, resting while waiting for Young Master Ye.

Just as I sat down and looked up, I saw Wen Heng standing straight in front of me, his cheeks puffed out in anger and his face full of displeasure.

He thought that perhaps it was because he had never stayed away from home for so long before that he felt insecure.

I grinned wickedly, patted the empty space beside me, and said to him, "Come here, sit down!"

Seeing that he still didn't move, I grabbed him and pulled him down to sit next to me with the force of my grip.

I couldn't help but poke his fair, puffy face, which resembled a steamed bun: "Do you know how hard it is for me to get a full meal? Didn't you promise you'd be obedient and well-behaved? Why are you making that resentful face?"

"..."

Wen Heng turned his head away, looking like he didn't want to talk to me. Well, his temper flared up again.

"Will I buy you delicious food when I make a lot of money?"

"..."

He ignored me.

"Buy something fun?"

"..."

They still ignored me.

"How about buying a whole bunch of your favorite flowers?"

Finally, I saw him raise an eyebrow and smile.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw him smile, then rubbed my forehead in frustration: "Didn't you say you'd be the one to comfort me no matter what? Why am I the one comforting you all the time?"

commit a sin.

Wen Heng and I waited there for a long time before we could faintly hear rustling footsteps coming from outside the alley towards us.

Judging from the footsteps, it seemed like quite a few people were coming. I thought to myself, "I'm so popular that they've sent so many people to welcome me."

I also stood up and greeted them with a formal smile.

Sure enough, a group of burly men walked up to me with their heads held high.

With a slightly amused smile, she asked me, "You're Ahua?"

I looked these burly, fat men up and down; they were nothing like street beggars. I immediately cast a sharp, wary glance at them without denying my identity: "Were you introduced by Young Master Ye?"

But after searching around, they couldn't find Ye Chen.

Then I saw this group of people surrounding Wen Heng and me in a very unfriendly manner, leaving us no way to pass.
