Chapter 44 Mental Disorientation

Not seeing Zhou Lang, I became even more furious and kicked the man at my feet away: "You bunch of scum, where are you going to swindle and cheat women again? And where are you sending them?"

As I was questioning them, a dozen or so burly men surged into the alleyway and walked towards me with a menacing air.

Upon seeing this, the man I kicked away, along with several men behind him, immediately stood up arrogantly and, together with a dozen burly men at the alley entrance, surrounded me.

"You brat, I haven't even avenged last time, and you've already delivered yourself to my doorstep?" The man in brocade barked at me triumphantly.

No sooner had the words left his mouth than a series of thuds and howls of someone fell down echoed through the alleyway.

I was like a tiger that had gone berserk, showing no mercy as I vented my burning anxiety, my anger, and all sorts of mixed emotions.

I beat this group of people so badly they tumbled and crawled towards the alley exit.

Unexpectedly, just as they reached the entrance of the alley, a series of loud thuds shook the ground, sending them flying back.

One by one, they grimaced, clutched their bodies, and wailed.

I glanced up at the alley entrance and saw a woman with a menacing aura, wearing a blue mask and a sharp, elegant purple dress, blocking my way.

When the man in brocade saw who it was, he glanced at me and then at the alley entrance with a disgruntled look.

He was so frightened that his face turned pale and his legs went weak. He started to lie on the ground, constantly changing positions and kowtowing to me and the woman, begging for mercy.

Unexpectedly, the woman in purple waved her hand, and a group of imposing soldiers rushed in from outside and detained the scoundrels.

The man in brocade robes, looking utterly dejected, was led away one by one by the soldiers.

"Miss Ahua, what a coincidence." Qingyan walked slowly toward me with a look that seemed to carry a hint of personal grudges and hatred.

However, I didn't pay attention to her emotions. What I valued was the elite team of soldiers who could obey her every command with a wave of her hand.

Right now, I'm searching everywhere like a headless fly, but I haven't found Zhou Lang. Perhaps they can help me out of this urgent situation.

I bowed deeply to her with a smile and clasped my hands in a respectful gesture: "Miss Qingyan, what a coincidence! A day apart feels like three autumns; I've missed you terribly."

Seeing my reaction, she showed no appreciation and immediately struck me with a palm strike.

I blocked her path with one arm and said seriously, "Miss Qingyan, let's have another match next time. I have a favor to ask of you today! If you want to get revenge for what happened yesterday, then please do so! I only ask that you help me this once!"

I adopted a submissive stance, as if I were being slaughtered.

Qingyan raised her fist and swung it at me, but she saw that I was indeed standing still without fear in the face of danger.

Finally, looking utterly bored, he lowered his fist in front of me again: "What do you want now?"

After I told her about Zhou Lang's disappearance, she glanced at me haughtily and said, "Beg me! I'll help you!"

"Please! Miss Qingyan! Please, please!" I bowed to her again in a very soft voice.

Finally, she really did act very generously and took me to the nearby government office to have a portrait drawn that looked very similar to Zhou Yu's. She then distributed the portraits to every soldier and officer, and we searched for Zhou Yu's whereabouts in and around the town.

Then they scattered and began searching for Zhou Lang.

“Ahua…Ahua…”

While I was searching, my keen hearing suddenly gave me a faint sound as Zhou Lang called my name from outside the town.

Hearing his voice, I was both anxious and happy, and ran straight in the direction he was calling me.

When I rushed to a desolate wilderness, I saw Zhou Lang helplessly curled up with his head down, calling my name softly beside the altar where the Earth God was worshipped.

I knelt down and held his hand tightly, calling softly, "Zhou Lang, I'm here! I've come!"

He slowly raised his head, his eyes bloodshot, and looked at me. Then he hugged me tightly, looking very aggrieved, and said, "Ah Hua, are you planning to abandon me?"

"No, didn't we pinky swear?"

"Why do I sense that there's another me living inside me? My memories are filled with you and him discussing how to abandon me! But then another voice in my head says I'm not Zhou Lang, and I can't even tell who I really am anymore, Ah Hua..."

"And the other me treats you very badly, I always bully you!"

"Ah Hua, will Zhou Lang really disappear? Will he become someone else and bully you?" Zhou Lang held his head, his voice choked with sobs, his words incoherent and his expression helpless.

"So, you're hiding because you're afraid of becoming someone else and hurting me, and that you'll disappear?" I asked with heartache.

If I'm not mistaken, it must be that Zhou Lang and Wen Heng's consciousnesses have begun to slowly merge, causing some confusion in his mind and making him temporarily unable to accept the pain.

Zhou Lang looked at me earnestly, his eyes blurry with tears, and said, "It's because I saw a talking bird fly up to me and tell me to follow it so it could help me get rid of the other me inside my body. But when I got here, I couldn't see it anymore..."

"A talking bird?" Could it be that thing's puppetry tricks again, trying to lure Zhou Lang into a trap?

My heart skipped a beat.

He glanced again at the earth god's stove beside him, wondering if his divine power was hindering this evil thing's plan, the consequences of which would be unimaginable.

I sincerely said to the shrine, "Thank you, Earth God!"

At this moment, Qingyan also arrived in front of me and Zhou Lang with a group of people. Seeing that the person had been found, she breathed a sigh of relief.

"You owe me a favor!" Qingyan looked at me meaningfully.

My mind was entirely on Zhou Lang, so I didn't give her a proper response. I just mumbled a few ambiguous words of thanks and then left with Zhou Lang, abandoning the group of people who had worked so hard for me all day.

I could only vaguely hear Qingyan muttering something behind me, but I couldn't hear it clearly.

When I got home, I wanted to change Zhou Lang into clean clothes, boil some water, and roast some sweet potatoes, but he kept his distance from me, not letting me get close to him, and he didn't eat or drink a single bite.

After quietly changing his clothes, he sat dejectedly in the courtyard, head bowed, lost in thought.

When I tried to get closer to him, he kept showing a tone of rejection towards me that I had never seen before: "Ahua, please don't come over, let me have some peace and quiet."

I was afraid that my actions would cause him emotional distress and affect his mind, so I could only sit silently behind him and keep him company.

From sunset to the bright moon hanging high in the sky.

The bright moon cast his slanted shadow, and he sat there forlornly, his expression shifting from dejection to sorrow, until finally he suddenly clutched his head and cried out in grief and indignation.

"Ah...don't come out! You're not allowed to come out!"

Zhou Lang clutched his head and roared angrily to himself.

My heart tightened, and I wanted to step forward to comfort Zhou Lang. But with each step I took, his eyes filled with pain, and he began to roar at me, "Ah Hua! Don't come any closer! I told you not to come any closer!"
