Chapter 52 Getting By with Cuteness

Before long, Ruoruo's face lit up with a joyful smile, and then she poured out a pile of ruined spiritual medicine residue from the eleven alchemy furnaces.

Next, another batch of mica roots was put into the alchemy furnace, and in less than a quarter of an hour, another batch of residue was poured out.

And so she continued refining the medicine, then pouring out the residue. Ruoruo repeated this process more than ten times until her body was trembling and her face turned pale. Only then did she sit down and take the pills to recover her spiritual energy.

Mo Yunlan frowned deeply: "What happened to her at the academy today? Why did she suddenly go crazy? She failed to refine medicinal herbs even once, yet she could still laugh so happily."

"I don't know either. I've been following her all day. Besides being extra attentive in class, that's all." A feather drifted down from the little chubby bird's head. He kept scratching his head with the tip of his wing, rubbing the feather off.

"Could it be that the residue from the failed mica root refining has some use?" Mo Yunlan asked. "Mo Jinyan, aren't you known as the 'Mobile Library of Books'? Think about it carefully."

Mo Jinyan racked his brains and shook his head helplessly: "I haven't seen any relevant records. What should we do? Should we stop Ruoruo or inform Father and Elder Brother?"

"Tsk, no, I don't even know the truth yet, how can I tell Mo Wuyu?" Mo Yunlan pinched the bird's beak. "Let's take another look."

After recovering her spiritual power and mental state through meditation, Ruoruo continued to repeat the previous state.

Ruoruo stopped when it got dark and she guessed that her father was going to Xixiang Palace to find her.

She quickly tidied up the alchemy furnace and residue, circled the Soul-Nourishing Jade several times, and finally noticed in an inconspicuous corner that the Soul-Nourishing Jade had changed from a slightly transparent white to a rich milky white.

Ruoruo excitedly clenched her little fists. It worked!

She touched the Soul-Nourishing Jade again and whispered, "Mother, Ruoruo is leaving now. She and Father will come to see you tonight."

Mo Yunlan felt heartbroken watching Ruoruo talking to herself in front of the Soul-Nourishing Jade: "If Mother could have woken up sooner, perhaps Ruoruo wouldn't have gone mad."

Mo Jinyan whispered, "Don't talk nonsense. If Ruoruo isn't crazy, who else could handle fire so well? There are more than a dozen alchemy furnaces!"

An ordinary alchemist probably wouldn't even be able to ignite the fire.

After saying goodbye to her mother, Xiao Ruoruo hurriedly returned to Xixiang Palace.

"No one has been here, has anyone?" Ruoruo asked Luojin.

"The celestial officials from Yaoguang Palace came to deliver something, but I stopped them at the door and they couldn't come in," Luo Jin replied.

Ruoruo breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good."

She lay inside the eggshell, feeling its gentle warmth nourishing her entire body, and comfortably sprawled out like a cat. Soon after, she closed her eyes and began to purr softly.

Luo Jin lowered the curtain and quietly withdrew.

When Mo Yong arrived, Ruoruo was fast asleep, her little belly protruding, nestled inside the eggshell, surrounded by swirling spiritual energy.

He clearly fell asleep while practicing.

She must be too tired from practicing too hard today because of what happened last night.

Mo Yong frowned slightly and reached out to help Ruoruo nourish her body and meridians.

Ruoruo groggily opened her eyes and saw that it was Mo Yong. She hugged Mo Yong's hand in a coquettish manner and rubbed her head against him.

The kitten, just woken up, called out in a soft, sweet voice, "Daddy~"

Mo Yong's furrowed brows quickly relaxed, finally turning into a helpless sigh: "Don't work too hard."

Such a big kitten should be like Mo Xuanshuang, carefree and mischievous every day.

Ruoruo's maturity made him feel a little sorry for her.

"It's not hard work at all, Ruoruo is very happy." The kitten's tail was slightly raised, clearly indicating that she was speaking from the heart.

Dinner was again held at Xixiang Palace, and all four elder brothers and Mo Yong were present.

Before Ruoruo returned, almost everyone except Mo Xuanshuang had abstained from grains, had no hunger, and no appetite. Apart from attending banquets, they had never eaten together.

After Ruoruo returned, everyone actually made sure to eat with the kittens every day.

Mo Yunlan ate and drank, and occasionally teased the kitten, behaving quite normally.

Instead, Mo Jinyan was somewhat distracted until Mo Xuanshuang stuffed the fruit into his mouth again, sticking it into his beak and blocking his mouth. Only then did he come back to his senses and start pecking at Mo Xuanshuang wildly.

"Eat if you want, or get out." Mo Yong looked up and scolded the cat that was about to fly into the plate.

The two little ones immediately shrank their necks and sat quietly in their seats.

Mo Wuyu glanced at Mo Jinyan, who was unexpectedly brave today and, instead of asking for help, had fought back after being tricked by Mo Xuanshuang.

Mo Yunlan placed a huge fruit on the plate in front of Mo Jinyan, completely blocking his view of the little chubby bird: "Eat yours."

As he was putting the fruit down, he secretly nudged Mo Jinyan. Mo Jinyan snapped back to reality. No, he couldn't show anything unusual and let his older brother and the others find out.

So Mo Jinyan pecked away and ate the fruit, which was bigger than his body, making his body even rounder. He lay on the table with his feet up and let out a satisfied burp.

With Mo Yong feeding her, Ruoruo successfully emptied the table, leaving nothing uneaten.

"Ruoruo and Jinyan are both hungry today," Mo Wuyu remarked casually.

Mo Jinyan and Ruoruo both stiffened for a moment. Ruoruo hurriedly explained, "The food in the imperial kitchen was so delicious today that I ate a little more."

Mo Jinyan couldn't help but cover his eyes with his wings. "Oh, silly Ruoruo, this is only one table. We've eaten at the previous two tables. And the same dish in the kitchen always tastes pretty much the same. It's not like it suddenly becomes very different. This explanation is too far-fetched, and she's explaining it so hastily. She's clearly hiding something."
