Chapter 130 We Broke Up
Shang Wu closed the ledger, understanding Lu Rang's good intentions.
What she was holding was not a heavy burden of trouble, but a bigger stage that Lu Rang had given her.
She also believed that her abilities were far more than just for revenge or to plunder everything that rightfully belonged to the Zhou family.
She would be more than happy to prove her worth at a higher level.
"Okay, I promise you."
...
It was getting late, so the two of them stayed at another villa.
The servants in the villa all voluntarily left.
When Qianjue brought them the food, his face was so ugly that it looked like the two of them owed him eight million.
He watched Shang Wu go upstairs to take a shower before turning his gaze to Lu Rang.
"Young Master, the fiancée that the master found for you is in Wanhu. Are you really not going to meet her? She comes from a prominent family, is beautiful and wealthy, and is just as good as Miss Shang."
Lu Rang glanced at it: "You like it?"
Qianjue was stunned for a moment: "What?"
“Since you admire it so much, why don’t I help you get it?” Lu Rang’s gaze held a hint of displeasure and warning.
Under his oppressive gaze, Qianjue dared not utter a sound, lowered her head, and turned to leave.
When Shang Wu came out after taking a shower, there was a set of pure white pajamas placed at the foot of the bed in the room.
She went over and changed her clothes, then went outside and found that Lu Rang was not there.
Shang Wu went downstairs and looked around. She saw the untouched food on the table and was about to go to the bathroom when she suddenly heard a soft, aggrieved voice coming from outside.
"Why? What's wrong with me that you won't want me?"
She paused in her steps.
Is there going to be a good show?
Shang Wu tiptoed behind the glass door of the villa's living room and saw Lu Rang standing with his back to her under the light.
Facing the light was a girl in a limited-edition luxury dress, tears streaming down her face, clutching her crocodile skin bag with a pitiful expression.
Shang Wu glanced over at it.
That bag is a one-of-a-kind limited edition, costing at least two million.
She knew all the wealthy heiresses in the entire city.
It's safe to say that this young lady is not part of the wealthy and beautiful social circle in Lincheng.
It's possible that Lu Zheng specifically introduced him to Lu Rang.
Indeed, Lu Zheng was terrified that women from Lincheng would try to climb up the social ladder by marrying into the Yu family. They would only look for women from other provinces and wouldn't affect or scheme for the benefits of the Yu family.
"Say something, Lu Rang! Please, please, give it a try with me, okay? Five years ago, I came to the Yu family as a guest with my father, and I liked you very much then." The girl's tears fell like pearls.
Lu Rang remained unmoved, his voice cold: "I have a girlfriend."
“You can break up, she’s not your fiancée.” The girl looked at him, unable to understand.
Lu Rang paused, then frowned expressionlessly: "Don't bother me, go back."
He turned to leave.
The girl suddenly asked, "Is she here? Inside? I want to see who she is, and what makes her think she can compare to me!"
Shang Wu pushed open the door and went out.
"Who's staying up all night, bothering my man here?"
She stepped forward and stood shoulder to shoulder with Lu Rang.
Lu Rang turned his head to look at her.
Shang Wu had just finished showering, her long hair loosely hanging down to her waist. Without makeup, she looked even more charming, and her loose pajamas subtly revealed a beautiful scene.
Lu Rang's gaze lingered on her neckline for a moment, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
Shang Wu curled her lips into a smile, deliberately wrapped her arms around his neck, pressed her body close to his, and said in a coquettish voice, "I've been waiting for you. I've already taken a bath. Are we going upstairs or not?"
After saying that, she finally deigned to give me a look: "Who are you?"
The girl's body visibly stiffened for a moment.
Lu Rang put his arm around Shang Wu's waist, a hint of a smile in his eyes: "Miss Zhang, aren't you leaving? I'm going upstairs with my girlfriend to spend the night."
The girl's face turned extremely pale, and she bit her lip, saying, "You've gone too far! You've all gone too far!"
She stomped her foot and ran away.
Seeing the bodyguards follow, Shang Wu wasn't worried about the girl's safety. She immediately released Lu Rang to prevent his still-damp hair from wetting his clothes. "Who is she?"
A dark glint flashed in Lu Rang's eyes as his gaze followed her, sliding from her eyes to her lips and then to her collarbone.
Realizing that his gaze was a little strange, Shang Wu coughed lightly, her face turning slightly red.
"I'm asking you a question, don't look at me like that..."
Lu Rang suddenly picked her up and carried her around the waist.
Shang Wu exclaimed in surprise and hugged Lu Rang's neck.
Lu Rang asked in a low voice, "Aren't you afraid of catching a cold without shoes?"
Shang Wu glanced at her dangling feet and realized that she had indeed forgotten to wear slippers.
She nestled obediently in Lu Rang's arms and remained still.
Lu Rang's arms were strong and powerful, his chest pressed tightly against Shang Wu's body, and he took each step steadily.
After entering the bedroom, Lu Rang kicked the door shut, but did not immediately put down the person in his arms.
In the dim light of the bedside lamp, his eyes were deep and unsettling, filled with a chilling emotion.
"You can put me down now," Shang Wu said softly, suddenly feeling a little afraid to look him in the eye.
Lu Rang tightened his arms around her and asked in a hoarse voice, "What if you don't want to let go?"
Shang Wu was stunned for a moment.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment, with only their ambiguous atmosphere gradually flowing between them.
Shang Wu's heart was pounding so fast that her cheeks felt hot.
What do you want to do?
Lu Rang slowly lowered his head and touched his forehead to her face.
"I've never seen you so shy before; you're even more charming than I imagined."
Shang Wu held her breath, watching him get closer and closer, without resisting.
Just as the two were about to kiss, their phone rang.
Shang Wu was so shocked she almost fell out of Lu Rang's arms.
Lu Rang was interrupted and was somewhat displeased. He gently placed her on the edge of the bed.
Shang Wu picked up the phone casually and saw that it was her brother calling. She felt inexplicably guilty.
She cleared her throat and answered the phone.
Her voice hadn't recovered yet, and her usual calm was tinged with a slight tremor.
Shang Yun Shen paused, puzzled: "What's wrong with you? You sound a little strange."
"No, brother." Shang Wu feigned composure, her heart pounding. "Why are you calling so late? Is something wrong?"
Lu Rang stood beside her listening, and couldn't help but raise his hand, his fingertips twirling her half-wet hair, wrapping it around his index finger a few times.
The next second, Shang Yunshen's clear voice came from the phone.
"I just wanted to ask how things are going on your end. Mom hasn't been eating or sleeping well these past few days, and she doesn't know where you've gone. She's been wanting me to call you to find out. She's afraid you'll do something impulsive, afraid that you'll elope with Lu Rang because she stopped you from being with him."
Upon hearing this, Lu Rang's gaze darkened, his movements faltered, and his eyes gradually regained their clarity as he withdrew his hand.
Shang Wu was afraid he would be unhappy, so she gently squeezed his fingertips to comfort him.
She said calmly, "I would never do anything so degrading, and I would never elope with anyone, no matter how much I like someone. Don't worry, I will bring Lu Rang back and present him to Mom in a respectable manner."
“But not now,” Shang Yun Shen interrupted her directly.
“I don’t know what’s wrong, but Mom has a lot of prejudice against him. If you don’t break up with him, I don’t think Mom will be able to calm down.”
"What if there's a misunderstanding? Lu Rang didn't harm his brother, so why can't Mom accept that?" Shang Wu frowned, unable to understand.
She couldn't understand why her mother, who had always been so open-minded and respectful of her choices, would suddenly become unresponsive.
Why is this happening when her mother has never threatened her with severing ties with her before?
Hearing the unhappiness in Shang Wu's words, Shang Yun Shen felt somewhat helpless.
"I guess it's because Mother had some connection with the Yu family before. I only vaguely found out about it today. Anyway, don't rush to bring Lu Rang over as soon as you find out anything. It will be a blow to Mother. She already has a heart condition and high blood pressure."
Shang Wu gripped her phone tightly, unsure of what to say.
After hanging up the phone, she looked at Lu Rang.
Lu Rang's eyes darkened, and he said, "Why don't we break up?"
"What did you say?" Shang Wu almost dropped her phone, her heart sinking. "You want to break up with me?"
She stood up: "Is it because my mother doesn't accept you now?"
“I haven’t finished speaking yet,” Lu Rang interrupted, squeezing her hand tightly. “What your mother wants is for us to break up now, so let’s break up to show her. It doesn’t mean we’re really separating.”
“I think before I explain what happened back then, I need to find out what the relationship is between your mother and the Yu family. I will also ask Lu Zheng about it.”
Shang Wu paused for a moment, then suddenly remembered that her mother's name also contained the character "jade".
Really?
This is just a coincidence and has nothing to do with the Yu family.
Shang Wu was uneasy and nodded slightly.
"Okay, I understand what you mean."
Thinking of the kiss that hadn't continued, she lifted Lu Rang's chin and lowered her head to kiss his lips.
"Go take a shower."
Lu Rang's breath hitched, and he looked up at her with a probing gaze.
"you mean……"
"No, that's not what I meant." Shang Wu's brow twitched as she denied it. "I meant it's getting late, we should wash up and go to bed."
Lu Rang stood up.
"Okay, I'll be right there."
He turned and took two steps, then looked back at Shang Wu, hesitating to speak.
"You rejected me because you didn't want me, or because you didn't want me?"
If you listen closely, you can hear a hint of grievance in his words.
Shang Wu was at a loss for words, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
Why did she feel that this sentence carried a hint of sorrow?
It was as if she were an emperor who favored his concubines.
“Now is not the time. This is an unfamiliar environment, and I… don’t feel comfortable here. It feels strange,” Shang Wu replied earnestly.
The hurt in Lu Rang's eyes disappeared, and he nodded.
"Okay, you get some rest."
His gaze fell on Shang Wu's delicate collarbone again, but quickly looked away.
Upon entering the bathroom, Lu Rang paused for a moment and adjusted the water temperature to cold.
...
Shang Wu slept well that night, a rare occurrence. The next day, he took the Yu family's account book and left before Lu Rang, returning home.
The first thing she did was to go see Nguyen Ngoc Thu.
"Mom, I broke up with Lu Rang."
