Chapter 236 She Had a Date with Another Man
Lu Rang walked over, his voice trembling so much it was almost incoherent: "She was taken away? The watch is here, but where is she?"
Inside the trash can, Shang Wu was almost in a semi-comatose state.
In her daze, she seemed to hear Lu Rang's voice, and thinking she was hallucinating, she bit her tongue hard.
The pain on the tip of his tongue instantly brought Shang Wu to her senses.
"Lu, Lu Rang..."
She made an extremely faint whispering sound.
But Lu Rang heard it.
He lunged at the trash can, his hands trembling, and yanked open the lid.
A stench hit me.
But amidst that pile of filthy garbage, he saw the person he had been longing for.
Shang Wu huddled there, her face pale, her hair disheveled, her beautiful eyes tightly closed, and long eyelashes still glistening with wet tears.
Without any hesitation, Lu bent down and pulled Shang Wu out of the trash can, holding her tightly in his arms.
"I'm sorry I'm late, I'm so sorry..."
Lu Rang's voice was almost choked with emotion as he hugged her tightly, losing control.
Shang Wu slightly opened her eyes in his arms, weakly managing a faint smile, her voice barely a whisper: "The phone call, you heard it, in the wine cellar..."
"I heard you. Don't speak. Conserve your energy. It's alright, it's alright. I'll handle it."
Lu Rang comforted her repeatedly, carefully examining her injuries. When he saw her obviously swollen and deformed right ankle, his eyes grew even colder.
"I won't let those people who kidnapped you get away with it, and they won't get out of jail either."
Lu You sighed, and seeing Shang Wu's miserable state, tears instantly fell down her cheeks.
Cheng Zhou's expression was also grave.
At that moment, car headlights swept past from behind.
Cheng Keke happened to witness this scene.
The aloof and haughty Lu Rang was holding the disheveled Shang Wu tightly without any disgust, as if he were holding some priceless treasure. His face showed a deep heartache and tenderness that Shang Wu had never seen before.
Cheng Keke was completely stunned and stood there dumbfounded.
Looking at his sister's distraught and confused state, Cheng Zhou felt a surge of anger and disappointment.
He walked up to Cheng Keke and pointed to Shang Wu, who was being carefully carried by Lu Rang and was about to be sent to the ambulance.
"Cheng Keke, look carefully. You've gone to great lengths to fight for this, but what do you have to offer?"
"Look at who Lu Rang is looking at right now? Who does he care about? Who is he hugging?"
"No matter how glamorous you dress up a hundred times, in his eyes, you're still no match for Shang Wu, who just came out of a trash can!"
"Don't you understand? You're not even worthy to carry her shoes! Give up on that idea!"
Cheng Keke was struck dumb, staring blankly at Lu Rang's departing figure carrying Shang Wu.
All of that man's attention and tenderness were reserved for the person in his arms.
And she was like a complete joke.
Cheng Keke's legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground, finally bursting into tears, feeling utterly humiliated.
Lu You ignored her, snorted coldly, and turned to leave.
She followed Lu Rang's car back to Yecheng.
After undergoing examination and emergency treatment, Shang Wu couldn't stand the stench on her body and insisted on taking a shower despite her foot injury.
She washed for two hours, insisting that Lu Rang not come in.
Lu Rang could only wait anxiously outside for two hours.
When Shang Wu came out, she was completely exhausted and Lu Rang carried her to bed.
The next day.
Shang Wu's right foot was in a heavy cast and she was suspended high in the air.
Lu Rang stayed by her bedside without leaving her side, holding her hand that wasn't receiving an IV drip. He looked exhausted and haggard.
But his gaze remained fixed on Shang Wu's face, as if afraid that she would disappear in the blink of an eye.
After examination, the doctor said she had a fractured ankle, accompanied by a severe sprain and soft tissue contusion, and would need to rest for a long time.
Lu Rang turned down all unimportant work and practically moved his office to the hospital room.
He personally handled all of Shang Wu's affairs, fed her, and even began to learn to cook, clumsily making soup and nutritious meals for her according to the nutritionist's recipes.
"You can do this too?"
One day, Shang Wu couldn't help but chuckle as she drank soup that was clearly too salty.
Lu Rang's ears turned slightly red, but he pretended to be calm: "I just learned this. If you don't like it, don't drink it. I'll have the restaurant send some more."
"It tastes good." Shang Wu shook her head, took another sip, and silently commented that the taste was indeed not very good.
At that moment, there was a gentle knock on the ward door.
Lu Rang thought it was the doctor making rounds and said, "Please come in."
The door opened, and in came Cheng Keke, carrying a large basket of expensive imported fruit, still dressed exquisitely but with a timid look in her eyes.
Lu Rang's face instantly darkened.
Shang Wu also suppressed her smile and looked at her calmly.
Cheng Keke stood awkwardly at the door, not daring to come in, her voice barely audible.
"Brother Lu Rang, Sister Shang Wu, I've come to see you. I'm so sorry, so very sorry..."
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes again.
Lu Rang stood up, walked to the door, and showed no intention of letting her in.
His voice was icy: "Get out."
"I really know I was wrong, I just wanted to apologize," Cheng Keke said, crying.
"Apologize?" Lu Rang sneered.
"What's your apology worth? Can it make her injuries heal immediately? Cheng Keke, I'm not pursuing legal action against you because of your brother. Now, get out of my sight immediately and don't bother her while she's recovering."
His words were merciless.
Looking at the quiet Shang Wu on the hospital bed, and then at Lu Rang's undisguised disgust, Cheng Keke finally understood how pathetic her ridiculous obsession was.
She couldn't stay any longer, so she put the fruit basket at the door and ran away crying.
Lu Rang closed the door, shutting out the outside disturbances.
He returned to the bedside, his tone softening: "It's alright now, she won't bother you again."
Shang Wu nodded without saying anything.
She had nothing more to say to Cheng Keke.
However, the peace did not last long. In the evening, another uninvited guest arrived.
Qi Yan, dressed in a suit and tie, appeared at the door of the ward, holding a bouquet of pure white lilies.
His arrival made the temperature in the ward seem to drop a few degrees.
"Looks like I've arrived at the wrong time?"
Qi Yan raised an eyebrow as he looked at Shang Wu's dangling foot.
His tone didn't reveal much concern.
Lu Rang stood up and stood in front of Shang Wu's bed, his gaze wary and cold: "Do you have something to say?"
Qi Yan ignored Lu Rang's hostility, placed the flowers on the table, and turned his gaze directly to Shang Wu.
"I heard Miss Shang was quite frightened and injured, so I came to see her. It seems that the underground winery..."
Shang Wu calmly interrupted, "Mr. Qi, the wine cellar has indeed been found, but it does not belong to me, nor has it ever belonged to me."
"Now, as stolen goods illegally appropriated by Factory Director Wang, it has been seized by the police and will soon enter the judicial auction process. If you really want it, you can bid for it."
Qi Yan didn't seem surprised by the result; he just smiled faintly.
“Auction? That’s too much trouble. I thought it would be easier to get it directly.”
His gaze fell on Shang Wu's face again. "However, one thing at a time. Miss Shang, shouldn't we continue designing my mother's brooch? Although the project has been delayed, I hope you can finish it as soon as possible."
Even Shang Wu found it somewhat unbelievable when she heard this.
After all that threatening, he was still able to continue demanding the brooch without batting an eye.
Lu Rang narrowed his eyes, grabbed Qi Yan's collar, and bulged the veins on his forehead.
He said coldly, "Qi Yan, how dare you bring up the brooch? If you hadn't pressed her so hard, would Shang Wu have gone to Lincheng? Would she have encountered danger?"
"This all started because of you! How dare you ask her to design things for you!"
Before he could finish speaking, Lu Rang's fist had already slammed into Qi Yan's face!
Caught off guard, Qi Yan staggered back several steps before crashing into the wall to regain his balance.
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his eyes suddenly turning sinister as he stared straight at Lu Rang.
"Attorney Lu, shall we make our move?"
The atmosphere in the ward instantly became tense.
Shang Wu tried to sit up anxiously: "Lu Rang, don't do it!"
Lu Rang's chest heaved violently as he stared intently at Qi Yan: "So what if I hit you? You dare take another step closer to her and see what happens!"
Qi Yan stared at him coldly for a while, then looked at Shang Wu, who was lying on the hospital bed with an anxious expression, and suddenly gave a sarcastic smile.
"Good, very good, Lu Rang, I'll remember this punch. Shang Wu, we'll talk about the brooch later. I hope you recover soon."
He straightened his disheveled collar, gave the two of them a deep look, and then turned and left the ward.
Lu Rang was still furious, his breathing heavy.
Shang Wu took his hand and gently shook her head.
"Don't get angry over this kind of person, it's not worth it."
Lu Rang grasped her hand in return, his voice hoarse.
"I'm just scared; I almost lost you."
Shang Wu smiled, "I'm perfectly fine, aren't I?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than Lu You and Cheng Zhou arrived.
They clearly didn't look too good after encountering Qi Yan.
The two chatted with Shang Wu for a while, told her to rest well, put down the tonics, and got up to say goodbye.
I walked out of the ward and into the quiet corridor.
Cheng Zhou looked at Lu You, whose beauty was undeniable, hesitated for a moment, and then extended an invitation.
"You've had a long day, haven't you eaten yet? Want to grab something to eat together?"
Lu You stopped and turned to look at him, a somewhat distant smile on her face.
"Thank you, but no need, I have plans for tonight."
Cheng Zhou was taken aback: "An appointment? With whom? A client?"
He instinctively pressed for an answer.
Lu You gently brushed a stray hair behind her ear and said calmly, "He's not a client, he's a man I'm currently in contact with."
"What?" Cheng Zhou was completely stunned, and subconsciously asked, "What man? When did this happen? How come I don't know anything about it?"
His jealousy was obvious.
Lu You felt a mix of emotions as she looked at his discomposure.
She smiled and said in a relaxed tone, "Cheng Zhou, we're just friends. I don't think I'm obligated to report my private matters to you, do I?"
After saying that, she stopped looking at the fascinating expression on his face and turned to walk gracefully toward the elevator.
Cheng Zhou stood frozen in place.
Does Lu You have someone else she likes?
Cheng Zhou was almost unable to think. Just as Lu You was about to enter the elevator, he suddenly came to his senses and followed her without thinking.
He wanted to see which man was trying to steal Cheng Zhou's girlfriend.
