Chapter 44 Car Accident
Chenmian ignored Zhou Yanci's warning look.
She just couldn't stand seeing Zhou Yanci give money to Shang Wu!
She didn't understand.
Zhou Yanci was clearly going to kick this woman out sooner or later. It was one thing to cooperate with her acting all the time, but why was he letting Shang Wu swipe his card now?
From now on, all of this money will be hers!
There's also Shangwu.
You're really good at keeping your composure.
Anyone who reads the messages she sends can tell that she and Zhou Yanci have something going on in private.
But Shang Wu could endure even this in order to marry Zhou Yanci.
Chenmian glanced at the bank card in Shang Wu's hand and said stubbornly, "Aci, if you don't give me the card, I really won't talk to you anymore."
“Sinking, sleeping.”
Zhou Yan's tone became more forceful, his eyebrows and eyes darkened, and veins were faintly visible on his temples.
The way the two were facing off was so intense, it was as if they were about to break through the barrier between them.
Shang Wu couldn't help but wonder if Zhou Yanci really thought she was stupid and couldn't see that he was being unscrupulous behind her back.
She placed the card in front of Zhou Yanci.
"It seems Miss Shen is really short of money. It's one thing to buy a necklace with her own boyfriend, but she's even trying to steal money from other people's boyfriends."
Shang Wu smiled slightly: "Then I'll give you flowers. After all, you've been heavily criticized recently for interviewing Ji Yu, and your dark history has been dug up. All your business deals have been suspended, so you must be struggling financially."
Upon hearing this, both of their expressions changed.
He was so angry that he almost lost his composure.
She was implicated in Ji Yu's affair, and her comment section was flooded with negative comments from netizens. Even hiring online trolls couldn't quell the negativity.
Unfortunately, someone dug up a video of her feeding drinks mouth-to-mouth with a male model at a nightclub abroad.
Fortunately, she explained that he was a boyfriend she found abroad, not a man who frequented nightclubs, which barely managed to appease Zhou Yanci.
Now that Shang Wu has suddenly brought it up, it's no different from reigniting Zhou Yanci's anger.
As expected, Zhou Yanci's expression changed. She glanced at Chen Mian without making a sound and directly stuffed the bank card back into Shang Wu's hand.
Seeing Chen Mian's bewildered expression, he raised an eyebrow: "It's only natural for me to spend money on my fiancée. What right do you have to tell me not to?"
“I…” Chenmian blushed, biting her lip as if about to cry.
Shang Wu gripped her bank card and smiled, "I have to go out for a bit. You two can chat."
She glanced coldly at Chenmian as she turned her head, her gaze containing a sharp warning.
Shenmian was slightly startled, clearly understanding the meaning in Shang Wu's eyes.
That means don't mess with her.
She was furious and watched helplessly as Shang Wu left, her resentment growing stronger.
Chenmian turned around, putting on a wronged expression: "Aci, Shangwu brought this up on purpose. I've already explained it to you, so please don't disbelieve me. You've always been the only one in my heart."
Zhou Yanci felt a surge of anger, glanced at them coldly, and scoffed.
"Only me? What about that wealthy businessman you abandoned me to follow abroad? What is he? A stepping stone for a better life?"
Chenmian's face turned ugly after being stung by his words.
To avoid bringing up the past and arguing, she immediately went over, hugged Zhou Yanci, and sat on his lap.
"I was confused for a moment, but now I'm completely devoted to you, aren't I? Ah Ci, let's not bring up the past now, there are more important things to solve."
Zhou Yanci hummed softly, then reluctantly asked, "What is it?"
"I've already checked the legal advisor who signed the cooperation agreement with Shangwu for you. He is indeed Dingfeng's top lawyer, and he's known for his good looks in the legal profession."
Chenmian leaned on Zhou Yanci's shoulder, her fingertips gently tracing circles on his heart: "It's said that several wealthy women sought him out for divorce proceedings, only to fall in love with him in the end. Do you think Shang Wu might...?"
"Won't!"
Zhou Yanci abruptly interrupted her, pulling her hand away and coldly saying, "Shang Wu will never fall in love with anyone else!"
Chenmian was hurt by his touch and retorted unhappily, "How can you be so sure? Is it because of your kindness to Shangwu? But don't forget, people's hearts are the hardest to fathom. They're together day and night in the branch office and no one cares about them. Are you sure Shangwu can stay true to himself?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Zhou Yanci's expression change.
A hint of pleasure flashed across Chenmian's eyes.
If Shang Wu dares to expose her past, then she'll also taste what it's like to be suspected by Zhou Yanci.
Zhou Yanci pursed her lips, her expression dark, and after a long silence, she pushed away Chenmian.
"Shang Wu loves me very much, unlike those other women. Even if the whole world betrays me, she won't."
His tone was firm, but his eyes were full of apprehension: "Get out! I need to work."
Chenmian twitched her lips. She could tell from his expression that he couldn't possibly be completely without resentment, so she turned and left.
After everyone left, Zhou Yanci leaned back slowly in her leather chair, lost in thought.
After a long silence, a disdainful sneer escaped his lips.
He's just a gigolo who boosts his performance by hooking up with rich women!
He only needs to teach this person a lesson, and he'll be sure to cancel the cooperation in a heartbeat.
Zhou Yanci said coldly, "Xiao Dong, come in."
...
In the afternoon, the weather was calm and peaceful.
Shang Wu went to see the branch office's premises.
She specifically rented the space in Mingyue Building.
The entire Mingyue Building used to be occupied by businesses.
The business had reached its peak, but vanished overnight.
The building was later auctioned off by the court and divided into floors of office space, which were then sold or rented to other companies.
Shang Wu rarely came here before, afraid that seeing the old site of the Shang family's company would trigger painful memories.
Now, she has set up her office here to remind herself every day not to slack off, but to take steady steps until she succeeds in her revenge.
Shang Wu stopped the car and walked into the building.
The gratitude she once felt towards Zhou Yanci had all been twisted into hatred, which, as she arrived at this familiar place, relentlessly pierced her heart.
This wasn't her office where she could make money; it was her stage to attack Zhou Yanci.
Shang Wu reached out, her fingertips tracing the cold wall before landing on the glass door.
Inside, workers were setting up the office area, while Aying supervised the work.
Just as Shang Wu was about to push the door open and go in, her cell phone suddenly rang.
She answered the phone: "Who is this?"
"Miss Shang, please come to the hospital immediately. Your friend has been in a car accident."
Shang Wu was taken aback: "My friend?"
The other person said, "Yes, his name is Lu Rang. You know him, right?"
Shang Wu's breathing hitched slightly, and she turned and quickly went downstairs.
When she rushed to the ward, the doctor and nurses were bandaging Lu Rang, and there was no gap for her to squeeze in.
Shang Wu felt a tightness in her chest as she stood near the door of the ward, her fingertips turning cold.
On her way here, she had already checked the car accident scene reported by the Lincheng reporter.
The Rexroth's door was askew, and the small truck next to it was stuck on the railing, barely managing to fall down.
Reporters at the scene said the small truck skidded while braking, causing a rear-end collision that led to the accident.
Shang Wu, however, keenly sensed something unusual.
She asked someone at the company.
Sure enough, after she left, but before the car accident, Xiao Dong was sent out of the company by Zhou Yanci.
It is now obvious who did this.
"Okay, your left arm is slightly fractured, the rest are just abrasions. You should rest now. The nurse will bring the prescribed medication later. You can be discharged after a period of observation."
The doctor gave a few instructions and then left with his people.
Shang Wu snapped out of her daze and unexpectedly met Lu Rang's gaze.
She pursed her lips and walked over.
"How are you?"
Lu Rang said calmly, "He's not dead, the car is broken."
"I'll buy you a new one."
Shang Wu took out her phone: "Whatever model you want, you can choose."
Lu Rang looked up at her; although she was sitting on the edge of the bed, she had the air of someone in a superior position.
"Don't you have anything else to say to me besides this?"
Shang Wu instinctively pursed her lips.
Lu Rang got into this trouble because he was her legal advisor.
Compensation for the car, medical expenses, or anything else will not change the harm Lu Rang suffered.
Zhou Yanci's intentions are quite obvious.
The intention was to scare Lu Rang away.
If it doesn't work the first time, there might be a next time.
She does need Lu Rang, that's true, but she can't let innocent people get hurt.
Besides, Lu Rang hates trouble the most, and now he's been implicated by her far too much.
After much deliberation, Shang Wu's emotions gradually calmed down.
Her gaze fell on Lu Rang's arm, which was wrapped in gauze. She walked over and took out the contract from her bag.
“Let’s cancel our cooperation, Attorney Lu. You will continue to handle my brother’s case. I will find a suitable legal counsel.”
Lu Rang frowned.
Shang Wu thought he was not satisfied, so she quickly added, "I will buy you a new car. You can have the old one or the new one. Also, the medical expenses and the work you missed can be compensated. Is that okay?"
Her tone was earnest and sincere, as if she would give Lu Rang mountains of gold and silver as long as she could afford it.
Lu Rang did not show the satisfied expression that Shang Wu had expected.
He stared coldly at Shang Wu, even more displeased than before: "Is this your way of handling things?"
Shang Wu didn't understand, "What else can I give you?"
Lu Rang laughed in anger, which was very rare for him.
"You refuse to cooperate at the drop of a hat. Without me, who can be your legal counsel?"
Shang Wu paused for a moment, then subconsciously said, "Nobody's here..."
Lu interrupted her: "What kind of coercion and bribery hasn't happened in the legal profession? Do you think I'd be scared off by such tactics?"
Shang Wu didn't know what to say, so she softened her tone: "Don't yell at me, can't you talk to me properly?"
"I'm not being mean to you, it's just that you're always trying to get rid of me." Lu Rang's face was still cold, but there was a hint of grievance in it.
Shang Wu lowered her eyes and said softly, "I was just afraid of causing you trouble. You were doing so well as a lawyer, and then something happened on your first day as a legal advisor after I lured you in. I feel bad about it."
Lu Rang glanced at her subtly.
"If you feel bad about it, then be my driver and take me to and from get off work for a while."
Shang Wu looked up, taken aback: "Huh?"
"What, are you scared?"
Lu Rang looked into her eyes. "Or do you think that even if you drive for me yourself, Zhou Yanci would be willing to send someone to run me over again?"
Shang Wu was taken aback, her expression complicated: "So you knew it was him who did it."
Before Lu Rang could answer, the ward door was suddenly pushed open.
Zhou Yanci burst in with a worried expression.
"Awu, I heard something happened here. How is Mr. Lu?"
