Chapter 253 Staying Out All Night
Meanwhile, at home.
Under Lu You's gentle comfort, Shang Wu did indeed fall asleep early.
The phone was placed on the bedside table on silent mode, the screen lit up and then went dark without being noticed.
Seeing that Shang Wu was fast asleep, Lu You quietly closed the door and lay down on the sofa in the living room so that she could take care of her at any time.
She also sent Lu Rang a message, asking when the dinner party would end.
Half an hour later, Lu Rang had not replied.
Lu You dialed the number, but it rang for a long time without being answered.
"Maybe it was too noisy and they didn't hear it."
As Lu You thought about it, she gradually felt sleepy, so she simply put down her phone and fell asleep on the sofa.
The next morning.
When Shang Wu woke up, she felt much better.
She stepped out of her bedroom and found the house quiet.
Only Lu You was curled up on the living room sofa, covered with a thin blanket.
But Lu Rang was nowhere to be seen.
Shang Wu was a little puzzled. She glanced at the clock on the wall and saw that it was almost eight o'clock in the morning.
Why aren't you home yet after having a dinner party this late?
She picked up her phone and saw the message Lu Rang had sent her last night.
It was sent around 10 PM.
It's already the next morning.
He hasn't come back yet.
Shang Wu frowned slightly, but didn't think much of it.
Perhaps they are resting at the law firm, or perhaps they have other urgent business.
She didn't want to disturb Lu You's rest, so she prepared to go back to her room and lie down for a while longer.
Just as I turned around, my phone suddenly rang sharply.
The caller ID showed Lu Rang.
Shang Wu answered immediately, her tone carrying a barely perceptible hint of worry: "Where are you? Why haven't you gone home?"
However, what came from the other end of the phone was a strange and clear female voice.
"Hello? Is this Ms. Shang Wu?"
Shang Wu's heart sank: "I am, who are you?"
The woman's voice on the other end sounded somewhat troubled and anxious.
"Hello, I'm the law firm's assistant, my surname is Lin. Here's the thing, Attorney Lu drank too much last night and is still asleep at my house."
Shang Wu's breath hitched for a moment.
Was the female assistant asleep and not awake?
Impossible, Lu Rang is clearly allergic to alcohol.
The female assistant's voice continued, tinged with apology.
“I saw that your number is an emergency contact on Lu Lu’s phone. I have to go to work at nine o’clock, so I really can’t stay here to take care of him. Do you think it would be convenient for you to come and pick him up?”
Shang Wu pursed her lips.
He didn't return home all night, got so drunk he was unconscious, and slept at the other person's house.
She still needs to pick her up.
What exactly is going on?
Is Lu Rang not allergic to alcohol? Or is he just having no symptoms after taking medication?
Shang Wu's fingers, gripping the phone, turned white at the knuckles.
Lu You had been woken up by the phone call long ago. Still half-asleep, she sat up, rubbing her eyes, and saw Shang Wu standing there, her face frighteningly pale.
"Ah Wu? Whose call is that?" Lu You immediately sensed something was wrong and got up to go over.
Shang Wu slowly put down her phone, her voice dry and tinged with disbelief and absurdity.
"Lu Rang went out for dinner and drinks with a female assistant last night and didn't come home all night. He's currently sleeping at that woman's house and hasn't woken up yet."
"That woman used his phone to ask me to pick him up."
Lu You's eyes widened instantly, and her anger flared up immediately.
"Isn't Lu Rang allergic to alcohol? He took medicine, right? Well, he risked his life to get drunk, and he still dares to be with a woman instead of going home?" She snatched Shang Wu's phone, glanced at the call log, and instantly became furious.
"What's the address? Did that woman give you the address?"
Shang Wu shook her head wearily, feeling a wave of dizziness and a dull ache in her lower abdomen.
She leaned on the sofa for support: "Sister You, I'm a little tired, I want to lie down for a while longer."
Deep down, Shang Wu didn't really believe that Lu Rang would betray her.
However, she was inevitably affected emotionally, and her body had not yet recovered, leaving her feeling physically and mentally exhausted.
She doesn't want to care about anything or ask anything right now.
Looking at Shang Wu's vulnerable state, Lu You felt both heartache and anger.
She suppressed her anger and helped Shangwu back to bed.
"Never mind that, get some rest. I'll go bring that bastard back!"
She tucked Shang Wu in, watched her close her eyes, and then quietly left the room.
Lu You immediately took out her phone and dialed back the number from Shang Wu's call log.
The call was answered quickly; it was the same woman's voice.
Lu You didn't mince words and coldly demanded the address.
The other party seemed intimidated by her imposing manner and obediently gave the address of a high-end apartment.
Lu You wrote down the address, grabbed her car keys without saying a word, and rushed out the door.
Inside the apartment.
Lu You knocked hard on the door according to the address.
The person who opened the door was a young woman with a pretty face and a slender figure, dressed in home clothes.
She looks no more than twenty-three or twenty-four years old, and is indeed very beautiful.
Seeing Lu You's pale face outside the door, the woman paused for a moment: "You are...?"
Lu You ignored her completely, pushed her aside, and barged inside.
Her gaze swept across the living room, finally settling on the half-open door to the master bedroom.
Lu Rang strode over and pushed the door open!
Lu Rang lay on the large bed in the bedroom, his suit jacket casually tossed aside, his tie loose, and his brows furrowed.
He seemed to be sleeping very soundly, completely unaware of everything happening around him.
A faint smell of alcohol still lingered in the air.
The female assistant, on the other hand, followed behind Lu You somewhat helplessly.
Lu You turned around, her gaze like a knife as she shot at her female assistant, her tone icy:
"Explain yourself, what happened?"
The female assistant was intimidated by her imposing manner and explained somewhat flusteredly, "My name is Lin Ruan, and I am a new intern assistant at the law firm. Last night, at a dinner party, Attorney Lu drank too much, and Attorney Yan asked me to give Attorney Lu a ride home on my way."
But Lu was too drunk to explain his address, so I had no choice but to take him back to my house first…
"Take him back to your home?" Lu You sneered, his eyes filled with undisguised sarcasm.
"All night? A man and a woman alone? Didn't you know he had a wife? Couldn't you call Yan Yue? Couldn't you use his fingerprint to unlock his phone and find his address?"
Lin Ruan blushed and paled as she was questioned, stammering, "I panicked at the time and didn't think much about it."
Lu You was too lazy to listen to her nonsense anymore, so she walked to the bedside and pushed Lu Rang hard.
"Lu Rang! Wake up!"
Lu Rang was pushed and shoved, and he opened his eyes groggily.
His head was throbbing, and his eyes were glazed over. When he finally saw the unfamiliar surroundings, he sat up abruptly.
"Where is this?" Lu Rang rubbed his temples, looked around, and couldn't remember how he ended up sleeping in a strange room.
He only remembered having dinner last night, and then inexplicably blacked out.
Seeing his completely unaware expression, Lu You's anger subsided by half, but she still kept a cold face.
"Where? This is your assistant Lin's home!"
"You were so drunk last night that you slept in some girl's boudoir!"
"They've even started calling A-Wu!"
Lu Rang frowned. "Impossible. I'm allergic to alcohol. I didn't drink a drop yesterday."
He looked at Lin Ruan, who was standing at the door with her head down, and then at Lu You.
“A-Wu, she…”
"Put your clothes on! Come back with me immediately and explain!" Lu You ordered, turning and walking out of the bedroom.
Lu Rang immediately put on his coat, not having time to think about what was going on.
He was just afraid that A-Wu would misunderstand and hurt her feelings.
Lu Rang followed Lu You away without glancing at Lin Ruan.
At home.
Shang Wu lay in bed, but did not fall asleep.
The dull pain in my lower abdomen seemed a little more pronounced than before.
She closed her eyes, and the young woman's voice on the phone kept replaying in her mind.
Shang Wu turned over, trying to put the thought aside, but then she thought of her child and felt a tightness in her chest.
Lu Rang followed Lu You home with worry.
The sound of the key being inserted into the lock was exceptionally clear.
Lu Rang took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and was prepared to face Shang Wu's questioning and even anger.
But the living room was very quiet.
Lu Rang frowned, changed his shoes, and tiptoed toward the bedroom.
The bedroom door was ajar.
He was about to push the door open when he heard Shang Wu's hushed voice coming from inside, as if she were on the phone.
His movements stopped.
"...Yeah, I'm fine, it's just a little tiring being with him."
Shang Wu's voice carried an undeniable weariness.
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself."
"Things are a bit tough right now, but they'll pass eventually."
Being together is tiring and unpleasant.
It turns out that, without his knowledge, Ah Wu was enduring such emotions.
And he actually made her mood even worse because of last night.
Lu Rang felt somewhat uncomfortable.
He thought he had given her all his love and protection, but it seemed he still couldn't make her feel completely safe and happy.
Lu Rang stood at the door, hesitating, and did not go in immediately.
The call inside seemed to have ended.
Lu Rang waited a few more seconds before gently pushing the door open.
Shang Wu was leaning against the headboard, still holding her phone in her hand, her eyes somewhat vacant, and her complexion still not very good.
When she saw Lu Rang enter, she merely raised her eyes slightly, her face showing no obvious emotional fluctuation.
"I'm back." Her tone was calm, even overly calm.
This calm, however, made Lu Rang even more uneasy.
He walked to the bedside, sat down, and carefully observed her expression.
"Awu, I'm sorry." He began, his voice hoarse. "I didn't drink last night, I don't know how I blacked out. I don't know how I ended up sleeping at Assistant Lin's house. I'll find out what happened, I..."
"No need to explain," Shang Wu interrupted him, her tone filled with a deep weariness. "I didn't doubt you."
She was telling the truth.
After going through so many ups and downs, she had a basic level of trust in Lu Rang.
Besides, Lu Rang is indeed allergic; if he had really been drinking, he should be in the hospital right now.
Shang Wu just felt tired.
My body hasn't fully recovered, and I was already feeling down when this terrible thing happened.
She really didn't have the extra energy to question, argue, or listen to explanations.
She just wanted to stay quiet.
However, her tired appearance, which showed she didn't want to hear any explanation, was interpreted in a completely different way by Lu Rang.
If you truly had no doubts and completely trusted someone, why would you react this way?
Why wouldn't you even listen to an explanation?
How could he be so calm about him sleeping in another woman's house!
Unless, as she said on the phone, there is already a rift between them, or she is really not doing well and is tired.
Lu Rang's heart sank.
He looked at Shang Wu's distant profile, and all the explanations he had prepared stuck in his throat.
The atmosphere became stiff and awkward.
Silence spread between the two.
After a long while, Lu Rang finally spoke with difficulty, his voice somewhat muffled:
"Then you should get some rest."
"I... went to the law firm."
After he finished speaking, he stood up and gave Shang Wu a deep look, hoping she would say something, even just a word of reproach.
But Shang Wu just gave a soft "hmm" and still didn't look at him.
Lu Rang turned around and left the bedroom and home with heavy steps.
