Chapter 311 Rivals Meet
Lu Yuwu fled in panic, leaving Fu Yan behind with a satisfied smile.
The next day.
Fu Yan is still resting in the infirmary.
He was listless, leaning against the headboard and gazing out the window.
Lu Yuwu was carrying light porridge and side dishes that she had just packed from a restaurant off campus. This was the scene that greeted her when she pushed open the door.
She paused for a moment.
Here, your food.
She placed the bag on the bedside table, her tone indifferent.
Fu Yan turned her head. "You've come."
His voice was a little hoarse, with a hint of dependence, "I thought you weren't coming today."
Lu Yuwu avoided his gaze and helped him open the lunchbox.
"Didn't I already promise you?"
She spoke harshly, but her actions were meticulous as she handed him the chopsticks, saying, "Eat quickly, they'll get cold."
Fu Yan took the chopsticks, but didn't touch them immediately. Instead, he looked at her with a soft gaze.
"My hands are weak; I almost dropped the water glass when I picked it up just now."
Lu Yuwu glared at him, knowing full well that he was probably faking it, but looking at his exceptionally innocent and vulnerable face, she just couldn't bring herself to refuse.
She took a deep breath, resignedly picked up the spoon, scooped up a spoonful of porridge, and held it to his lips, saying harshly, "Open your mouth!"
Fu Yan readily opened his mouth, swallowed the warm porridge, and could hardly hide the smile in his eyes.
He ate slowly and deliberately, occasionally giving instructions.
"I want to eat that side dish."
"It's a bit hot, let me blow on it."
While cursing him for pushing his luck in her heart, Lu Yuwu did as he said.
She found that her bottom line was gradually slipping away when facing the injured Fu Yan, but there was nothing she could do about it.
In the following days, Lu Yuwu seemed to become Fu Yan's personal errand boy.
She would either help him return books to the library, deliver notes he had left at home, or even patiently play a couple of mobile games with him when he complained about being bored in the hospital room.
Fu Yan takes feigning pitifulness to an extreme, always finding various reasons to keep her by his side.
Lu Yuwu complained verbally, but did not actually refuse in her actions.
Luo Luo saw through her scheme and teased her, "I think you're just all bark and no bite. You'll be completely under Fu Yan's thumb sooner or later."
Lu Yuwu blushed at her words and coughed lightly.
"I... I didn't!"
She quickly grabbed the book meant for Fu Yan and fled.
The weekend is here in the blink of an eye.
Shang Wu and Lu Rang took advantage of their free time to visit their daughter at school.
The family was having dinner at a restaurant near the school when Shang Wu noticed that her daughter seemed distracted, glancing at her phone every now and then with a hint of worry in her eyes.
"Xiaowu, what's wrong? Did you run into some trouble at school?"
Shang Wu asked gently and wiped the corner of his mouth.
Lu Yuwu came to her senses, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "It's nothing serious, it's just that... Fu Yan sprained his ankle playing basketball a few days ago and is staying at the school hospital."
"You're injured?" Shang Wu asked in surprise. "How serious is it?"
"The school doctor said it's a sprain and I need to rest," Lu Yuwu said vaguely.
Lu Rang put down his teacup, glanced at his daughter, and said calmly, "Now that we know, it's only right and proper that we go and see him. Which school hospital is he in? Let's go there after we finish eating."
After the meal, the family of three went to the school hospital.
When I knocked and went in, Fu Yan was leaning against the headboard reading a book.
Upon seeing Shang Wu and Lu Rang, he immediately put down his book, struggled to sit up straight, and showed a look of surprise on his face: "Aunt Shang, Uncle Lu, what brings you here? Please have a seat, I'm so sorry, I'm like this..."
"Don't move, don't move, just lie still." Shang Wu stepped forward, looking at his bandaged ankle with concern. "How could you be so careless? Is it badly injured? What did the doctor say?"
Fu Yan smiled and said, "I'm sorry to have worried you, Auntie and Uncle. It's just a common sprain. I'll be fine after resting for a while. It's my own fault for being careless and not paying attention when I was grabbing the ball."
His tone was sincere and his attitude was upright, making him appear like a good child who wouldn't cause his elders any worry, a stark contrast to his usual domineering and shameless demeanor in front of Lu Yuwu.
Lu Yuwu watched from the side, her lips twitching slightly, inwardly cursing this guy for being such a show-off.
Shang Wu inquired carefully about his injuries and told him to rest well and pay attention to nutrition.
Fu Yanyi obediently agreed, but then seemed to suddenly remember something and said somewhat shyly, "Aunt Shang, there's something I might need to trouble Xiaowu with. My mother just called and said there's something going on at home and she hopes I can go back tonight."
"But my foot... Uncle Wang, the driver, is also on leave today because of family matters. Could you please give me a ride back to the Fu family on your way home later?"
His eyes were clear, and his polite request was hard to refuse.
Shang Wu was already heartbroken over the child's injury, and seeing how polite he was, she immediately agreed: "It's no trouble at all, it's on the way. Xiao Wu, take Yan Yan back later, be careful on the road."
Lu Yuwu: "..."
She desperately wanted to rush up and tear off Fu Yan's facade! The Fu family wouldn't be short of drivers? It was clearly intentional!
But she couldn't lose her temper in front of her parents, so she could only grit her teeth and agree, "Okay, Mom."
Shang Wu and Lu Rang then got up to say goodbye, instructing Lu Yuwu to take good care of Fu Yan.
After leaving the school hospital and getting into the car, Shang Wu said thoughtfully to Lu Rang, "Don't you think there's a bit of a strange atmosphere between Xiao Wu and Fu Yan?"
Lu Rang started the car, looking ahead, and said in a calm tone: "The children are all grown up and have their own way of getting along. Fu Yan is deep-thinking, but he has always been very attentive to Xiao Wu."
On the other side.
In the hospital room, as soon as her parents left, Lu Yuwu crossed her arms and glared at Fu Yan: "Fu Yan, what do you mean? Don't you have a driver? Do you really want me to take you home?"
Fu Yan's obedient expression vanished instantly, replaced by a lazy yet slightly roguish smile as he leaned against the headboard.
He looked at Lu Yuwu with a leisurely air: "Yes, I have plenty of drivers, but I just want you to drive me, is that not allowed?"
"You!" Lu Yuwu was speechless with anger. "You're a scoundrel!"
"I'll just be shameless."
Fu Yan said matter-of-factly, "My feet hurt and I need someone to take care of me. Can't you just take pity on me?"
Seeing his unruly and reckless behavior, Lu Yuwu was speechless, feeling as if she had punched cotton.
She was too lazy to argue with him anymore.
Anyway, I can't disobey my parents, so I'll just give it to them.
She walked over irritably and said gruffly, "Can you walk? Should I get you a wheelchair?"
Fu Yan reached out her hand, her eyes expectant: "Just help me up."
Lu Yuwu reluctantly reached out and grabbed his arm.
Fu Yan leaned most of his weight on her, his arm naturally wrapped around her shoulder.
A warm breath rushed towards him, and Lu Yuwu's body stiffened. His ears began to burn uncontrollably, but he could only grit his teeth and support himself as he walked out step by step.
She called a car and took Fu Yan upstairs.
They remained silent the entire way.
When the two arrived at the Fu family villa, she helped Fu Yan and rang the doorbell.
The maid came to open the door quickly.
As Lu Yuwu helped Fu Yan into the living room, her steps faltered instantly, and the color drained from her face.
In the living room, Mrs. Fu was having a pleasant conversation with a young girl.
The girl was wearing a light yellow dress and had sweet makeup.
Jin Ting turned around when she heard the noise and saw Fu Yan being supported by Lu Yuwu. Her face immediately showed a worried expression.
She hurried over to him: "Brother Yan! What happened to your foot? Is it serious? Auntie was so worried!"
As she spoke, she naturally reached out to take Lu Yuwu's place and support Fu Yan.
Lu Yuwu pursed her lips, and when she thought back to how she had unintentionally disturbed Fu Yan in the past and directly called him away from their date, she felt as if something was blocking her heart, making her feel suffocated.
She subconsciously let go of Fu Yan's hand, took half a step back, and her expression was not good.
Fu Yan noticed her movements and emotional changes, frowned slightly, avoided Jin Ting's outstretched hand, and said in a flat tone:
"It's nothing, just a minor injury. What brings you here?"
Jin Ting's hand froze in mid-air, a hint of embarrassment flashing across her face, but she quickly regained her sweet smile.
"I came to see you, Auntie. I just heard that you were injured and I was very worried about you."
She then feigned surprise, as if she had just noticed Lu Yuwu, and said, "Sister Yuwu is here too. Thank you for bringing Brother Yan back. But in the future, let me handle these little things. After all, I'm more familiar with Brother Yan, so it'll be easier for me to take care of him."
Lu Yuwu twitched the corners of her mouth, revealing an extremely perfunctory fake smile: "You're welcome. It's just on the way. I've dropped the person off, so I'll be going now."
After saying that, she didn't even glance at Fu Yan before turning and leaving.
“Lu Yuwu…”
Fu Yan watched her leave without looking back, then glanced at Jin Ting, and his face instantly darkened.
"Give me a heads-up next time you come."
Jin Ting was taken aback: "What's wrong?"
"So that she doesn't see you and get upset."
Fu Yan shook off her hand and limped upstairs.
Jin Ting's eyes immediately reddened.
...
Lu Yuwu walked quickly out of the Fu family villa, feeling the night wind blowing on her face, which was particularly cool.
Her heart ached and throbbed.
Sure enough, whenever Jin Ting is involved, things can never be peaceful between them.
Fu Yan simply didn't understand what it was that bothered her.
That's ridiculous.
They actually forgot how disgusting it was to spend the whole summer together just because of how they spent time together after school started.
We shouldn't have been so kind to Fu Yan.
We should look forward.
Lu Yuwu exhaled and quickened her pace to leave.
