Chapter 174 The Light Bulb Reappears
Shang Yun Shen clenched his fists, watching for signs of Lu Rang's changing attitude.
He admitted that this was a very clumsy approach.
But as a son, seeing his mother suffering so much from illness, he would do anything.
Anyway, Shang Wu also said that if he had the ability, he could talk to Lu Rang himself.
It's not a big deal that he's doing this now.
Shang Yun Shen stepped forward and looked at Lu Rang.
"I'm sorry, the things the older generation did do have to cause us a lot of trouble and hurt you, but think about Ah Wu."
“Awu is the person you love most. She is worried about her mother and finds it hard to sever the blood ties, but she also doesn’t want to hurt you. Can you bear to see her in such a dilemma?”
"If it were me, I wouldn't be willing."
"Now she has cut off all ties with her family for your sake. Don't make things difficult for her anymore. She's really in a tough spot."
Shang Yun Shen lowered his stance and tried to persuade him gently.
He only saw Lu Rang's tense expression, unable to discern any emotion, but failed to notice the struggle in Lu Rang's eyes.
Lu Rang clenched his fist, then relaxed it.
Between his mother's matter and Shang Wu, he finally made a choice.
"The doctor will come; you can wait at the hospital."
Shang Yun Shen's heart, which had been in his throat, finally settled down, and he revealed a relaxed smile.
"That's great, you've helped A-Wu resolve a worry in her heart, that's really good."
Lu Rang pursed his lips, ignored his words, and walked straight into the group's building.
Upstairs, Shang Wu sat at her desk, deep in thought, twirling a pen absentmindedly in her hand.
*Smack*
With a soft thud, the pen fell onto the table and rolled to Aying's feet.
Aying picked up the pen and placed it beside her.
"Mr. Shang, are you feeling a little down? Are you worried about Mrs. Shang's condition?"
Shang Wu glanced at her and said indifferently, "Her heart is not feeling well because what she did back then was exposed. Even if we hadn't severed ties, I wouldn't feel sorry for her because of that."
Aying tilted her head: "So what are you thinking about? Why are you still unhappy?"
A hint of worry flashed across Shang Wu's eyes, and she shook her head.
"I don't know. I'm just a little worried. It's a strange feeling, but no matter what, I won't ask Lu Rang for help. I have no relationship with the merchants, and that's it. I mean what I say."
Just as Aying was about to nod, there was a knock on the door.
She turned around and saw that it was Lu Rang, so she immediately went to open the door.
“Lawyer Lu”.
Aying smiled, turned her back to Shang Wuchong, and winked gently at Lu Rang.
She lowered her voice: "President Shang is under a lot of pressure, spend some quality time with her."
Lu Rang's eyes flickered.
He nodded slightly and walked in.
Ah Ying closed the door and left.
"Weren't you busy today? Why did you suddenly come over?"
Shang Wu forced himself to stay alert and made Lu Rang smile.
Lu Rang was silent for two seconds, then suddenly pulled her into his arms.
Shang Wu was a little dazed as he hugged her, and subconsciously patted his back.
Instead, Lu Rang raised his hand and gently stroked her long hair, conveying a more comforting meaning than she did.
"Don't worry, things will be fine, don't be upset."
Shang Wu was stunned for a moment, not understanding what he meant.
She laughed it off, not taking it to heart: "Yes, I know. As long as you're with me, I'm not worried about anything."
Lu Rang smiled and kissed her forehead.
The phone lit up.
He took his phone out of his pocket and saw a message.
"Young master, the doctor has been arranged to go."
Lu Rang looked at it for a moment, then put the phone back in his pocket.
"What do you want to eat tonight? I'll take you."
"Okay, I've almost finished my work, let's go now."
Shang Wu picked up her bag and coat.
Lu Rang took the coat and draped it over her shoulders, his actions considerate and gentle.
The two walked out side by side. Shang Wu kept talking about her work at the company that day, deliberately avoiding the topic of Shang Yun Shen coming to see her.
Lu Rang usually responds to every word, but today he was unusually silent.
When they arrived outside the company, Shang Wu finally noticed that something was wrong with him.
She straightened Lu Rang's collar: "What's wrong? You don't seem happy today."
Lu Rang subconsciously suppressed all his emotions and said softly, "No, don't overthink it. Hurry up and get in the car. I'll take you to your favorite restaurant."
Just as Shang Wu was about to nod, a figure suddenly approached.
"What are you and your fiancé going to eat, Ms. Shang?"
She was startled and instinctively leaned towards Lu Rang. Looking at Chen Chunzhi, who had appeared out of nowhere, she thought it was her hallucination.
Lu Rang's eyes darkened slightly as he stared intently at Chen Chunzhi.
"Mr. Chen, what are you doing here? Aren't we supposed to be conducting a detailed inspection and signing the contract next week?" Shang Wu was taken aback.
Chen Chunzhi, hands in his pockets, smiled brightly: "I come to Lincheng to play all the time, you didn't know that, did you? By the way, is the restaurant you're going to good? I'm hungry too, want to come with me?"
Shang Wu was taken aback, not expecting him to be so outgoing.
Facing the president of the client company, she rubbed her hands together somewhat awkwardly.
"It's not convenient today, it's my anniversary with my fiancé."
Lu Rang looked at her lying without batting an eye and slightly curled his lips.
Chen Chunzhi shrugged, seemingly unconcerned, and said, "You've misunderstood. I'm not so tactless as to be a third wheel. What I mean is, I'll go with you guys and eat at a different table. I absolutely won't say a word, okay?"
Shang Wu: "..."
She hoped that Chen Chunzhi wouldn't go.
After all, that's what she said. When the time actually came, she couldn't just ignore the client's leader and eat her own meal with Lu Rang without paying any attention to him or offering him hospitality.
Besides, Lincheng is her home turf.
Just as Shang Wu was looking for a reason to refuse, Lu Ranghui spoke up first.
“Sure, since Mr. Chen insists on trying this restaurant, let him come along.”
Shang Wu turned around and asked Lu Rang with her eyes.
Lu Rang was even more reluctant to be disturbed than she was, so why is he suddenly being so easy to talk to now?
Lu Rang gave her a reassuring look, then looked up at Chen Chunzhi.
"The car I brought to pick up A-Wu today is a sports car, which can only seat two people. If you want to come along, you can drive yourself."
"It's alright, I know my place and won't be a third wheel and hang out with you guys."
Chen Chunzhi smiled brightly, and after speaking, he shook the car keys in his hand to indicate to Lu Rang not to worry.
Seeing that the two of them were relaxed and getting along well, Shang Wu felt at ease.
She said softly, "Okay, let's go together then."
She turned and got into the car next to her. She waited for Lu Rang to come around and drive.
Lu Rang narrowed his eyes and looked at Chen Chunzhi, warning him in a low voice so that Shang Wu couldn't hear him.
"If you insist on making a fool of yourself, I'll grant your wish."
Chen Chunzhi raised an eyebrow with a grin: "Didn't you say I was just a fly you wouldn't even notice? Don't underestimate the power of a fly; sometimes it can ruin a dish."
A faint murderous intent filled Lu Rang's eyes.
Shang Wu looked over with a puzzled expression, as if wondering why the two of them were chatting outside.
Lu Rang caught a glimpse of her confused expression out of the corner of his eye and suppressed his arrogance.
"You wouldn't want to compete with me."
After saying that, he got into the car without looking back.
Lu Rang felt no sense of crisis whatsoever regarding this man.
The things he and Shang Wu have gone through since they met are not the kind of ordinary love that anyone can easily replace.
Ordinary methods of pursuing someone simply cannot move Shang Wu.
He was well aware of this.
The three of them drove to the restaurant one after the other. As soon as they got out of the car, Lu Rang grabbed Shang Wu's chin and kissed her lips.
Chen Chunzhi paused, watching from behind, his face turning almost green.
Shang Wu responded by kissing Lu Rang's lips and smiling shyly.
"What are you doing? Mr. Chen is watching."
"No." Lu Rang lowered his eyes and glanced indifferently at Chen Chunzhi not far away.
"I believe Mr. Chen won't mind. Isn't this the kind of issue you always face when you go out to dinner with a couple?"
"Yes, yes, yes." Chen Chunzhi laughed nonchalantly, "As long as President Shang doesn't think I'm a third wheel, that's fine."
Shang Wu exchanged pleasantries with him and then pulled Lu Rang inside.
After she climbed the steps, she glanced at Chen Chunzhi, who was a few steps behind, and couldn't help but lower her voice.
"Why are you arguing with him? You even kissed me in front of him on purpose. He's only interested in the food in this restaurant, not me."
Lu Rang looked at Shang Wu in silence for a few seconds, then blurted out helplessly, "Have you rarely been pursued by anyone growing up?"
Shang Wu was surprised, wondering why he would suddenly say this.
However, after thinking about it carefully, it seemed to be true.
She was exceptionally beautiful when she was young, and she received a lot of love letters during junior and senior high school.
In order to focus on her studies during college, Shang Wu lied to the university that she was not single and had a boyfriend. In addition, she devoted herself to design, so boys who had feelings for her and wanted to pursue her would all back down.
Shang Wu heard about the suitor from her roommates.
Therefore, apart from Zhou Yanci, no one else pursued her openly.
Shang Wu hesitated before asking, "Why are you asking this?"
Lu Rang smiled slightly: "No wonder."
He left behind three words that left Shang Wu completely baffled, and then pulled her inside with him.
Shang Wu glanced at Chen Chunzhi and saw several waiters surrounding him, leading him to another private room.
She then sat down with Lu Rang in the reserved seats.
Chen Chunzhi didn't show up at all during the meal, as if he had only come to the restaurant to eat.
Lu Rang knew that this was just Chen Chunzhi's strategy.
It's fine to come over for a meal, or even just to make your presence known, but it's annoying when someone insists on getting in the middle of the meal and disturbing us.
This is a man with a very good sense of propriety.
Before leaving, Shang Wu paid for Chen Chunzhi's bill and left a note.
The note read: "[Since Mr. Chen has come all this way, this meal is on my behalf. I hope we have a pleasant cooperation and the contract is signed smoothly. Have a great time.]"
Shang Wu didn't intend to write it in such an official style.
But thinking about it carefully, Lu Rang's act of kissing her in front of her to assert his ownership should be due to a lack of security.
Shang Wu then used the content of the note to clearly maintain distance and keep basic social etiquette.
She emphasized that the dinner invitation was simply a meal that she, as the host, should treat everyone to.
Lu Rang watched her write down the note the whole time, his eyes darkening slightly.
As Shang Wu followed him out of the restaurant, she joked, "You can rest assured now, right?"
Lu Rang asked, "What are you worried about?"
"Chen Chunzhi has no designs on me whatsoever. Even if he did, seeing this note would have put him out of the game."
"Not necessarily, these kinds of people are the most shameless."
Lu Rang's tone carried a hint of emotion.
Shang Wu was both amused and exasperated, and went to hug him.
"Okay, then I promise that I will never have any private contact with Chen Chunzhi again, except for work-related matters. Can you rest assured now?"
Lu Rang's expression softened, and he said in a low voice, "I don't necessarily want you to do this, I just..."
“I like doing this, I’m happy to do this, I want to give my boyfriend, who is easily jealous and insecure, some reassurance, is that alright?” Shang Wu interrupted him with a smile.
Lu Rang looked at her for a while, then suddenly stroked her cheek.
He whispered, "You know what? I would do anything for you, as long as you stay by my side."
Shang Wu placed her hand on the back of his hand and rubbed her cheek against his palm.
"I don't want you to do anything, I just want you to stay by my side."
Lu Rang smiled faintly.
As he got into the car, he suddenly received a call from an unknown number.
Lu Rang frowned, hung up immediately, and then received another text message.
The doctor has come to treat my mother, thank you. But I have something else I need to talk to you about. Can we talk alone? Just ten minutes will do.
Lu Rang looked at the text message and replied with two words after a moment.
Wait.
After dropping Shang Wu off, Lu Rang found some time to call back while shopping at a convenience store.
As soon as the call connected, Shang Yun Shen breathed a sigh of relief.
"I thought you were just making me wait to brush me off and that you didn't want to talk to me."
Lu Rang said impatiently, "Enough nonsense. The doctor has already made arrangements for you. I'm only doing this for Shang Wu's sake, so she won't be troubled or put in a difficult position. You shouldn't bother me anymore."
Shang Yunshen paused for a moment, then smiled helplessly.
"Of course, I really shouldn't have bothered you. Actually, I just wanted to ask you if you know Zuo Xueqing, the daughter of the Zuo family?"
Lu Rang frowned, paid the bill, and then carried out a plastic bag of snacks he had bought for Shang Wu.
He asked, "We know each other, so what?"
