Chapter 286 Uncle
Shang Wu slept soundly.
When I woke up again, it was already broad daylight outside the window.
Her body felt like it had been disassembled and reassembled, with soreness and weakness everywhere, but her mind was very clear.
The ward door was gently pushed open, and a nurse walked in carrying a swaddled baby, a gentle smile on her face.
"Mrs. Lu, the baby has had her bath and is very healthy. You can take a look at her more often."
Lu Rang had been staying by the bedside, and immediately stood up upon hearing the sound.
He quickly washed up, changed out of the wrinkled shirt he wore yesterday, and put on a simple dark sweater.
Lu Rang's gaze first fell on Shang Wu's face, confirming that she was in good condition, before turning to the small package in the nurse's arms.
This time, his gaze was no longer a hasty glance like last night; he focused it intently.
Lu Rang took a few steps closer and bent down slightly to observe and examine the small person.
The baby is asleep. His skin is more relaxed than when he was born, but it is still red. His little mouth moves occasionally.
Her sparse baby hair clung to her forehead, making her look unkempt.
Lu Rang smiled, looking at his daughter's tiny fingers and nose, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
This is his and Awu's child, a continuation of their lives.
He extended his index finger and, with extreme care, gently touched the baby's cheek with the back of his finger.
The cheeks felt incredibly soft to the touch.
Lu Rang's heart skipped a beat, and he subconsciously withdrew his hand.
"She is very soft."
He turned to look at Shang Wu, his tone carrying the awkwardness of a new father.
Shang Wu couldn't help but smile as she watched his cautious demeanor.
"Yes, like the glutinous rice ball you bought before."
A faint smile also flickered in Lu Rang's eyes.
He straightened up, nodded to the nurse, then picked up his phone, walked to the window, and began to arrange the follow-up matters in a low voice.
He booked a postpartum care center for Shang Wu, a top-of-the-line suite with a professional postpartum recovery team.
However, even the best arrangements can encounter unexpected events.
In the afternoon, after Shang Wu was safely taken to that luxurious and professional postpartum care center, she learned that the center had an unexpected rule.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Lu, we have strict rooming-in care for mothers and babies here. In order to ensure that the mother can get absolutely quiet rest, family members are not allowed to stay overnight to accompany her except during the designated visiting hours."
The supervisor looked apologetic, but his tone left no room for refusal.
"Can't I stay with you?" Lu Rang's face darkened instantly as he repeated the question, his voice carrying an air of impending doom.
In order to be able to stay with Shang Wu at all times, he even specially chose the largest suite.
But he was told that he couldn't stay by her side?
"My wife just gave birth and needs someone to take care of her."
"Please rest assured, we have the most professional nurses and postpartum caregivers, working in shifts 24 hours a day, and we will take meticulous care of Mrs. Lu and her baby."
The supervisor maintained a professional smile.
Lu Rang's face turned completely cold, a hint of anger etched between his brows: "I don't care about your rules, I must..."
"Lu Rang." Shang Wu lay on the bed in the inner room, listening to the conversation outside, her voice still somewhat weak when she spoke.
"It's okay, there are doctors and nurses here, it's very convenient. You didn't get a good night's rest last night either, go back and get a good night's sleep."
Lu Rang turned and went into the inner room, his brows still furrowed. He walked to the bedside and took her hand: "I'm worried."
Shang Wu squeezed his fingers gently, soothingly saying, "What are you worried about? There are so many people watching here..."
She paused, then looked tenderly at her daughter sleeping soundly in the crib beside her.
"I also want to try spending some time alone with Yuwu, and get used to how to be a mother."
Her words were gentle, and Lu Rang's anxiety and anger dissipated considerably.
He looked into Shang Wu's tired yet determined eyes, remained silent for a moment, and finally sighed in resignation.
Lu Rang leaned down and planted a kiss on her forehead.
"Call me immediately if anything happens."
"Okay," Shang Wu replied with a smile.
Just then, there was a gentle knock on the ward door, and a neatly dressed girl peeked in, holding a large bouquet of bright sunflowers.
"President Shang!" As soon as A-Ying entered, her eyes instantly reddened when she saw Shang Wu leaning against the bed and the crib next to her.
She put down the flowers, rushed to the bedside, wanted to hug Shang Wu but didn't dare to use force, and finally just carefully grabbed Shang Wu's hand, tears falling down her face.
"You've worked so hard! That's wonderful, absolutely wonderful!"
She was incoherent, laughing and crying at the same time: "Watching you and Mr. Lu get to where you are now, get married, and have a baby, I'm so moved! President Shang, you will definitely be happier and happier in the future!"
Infected by her, Shang Wu's eyes also welled up with tears. She gently patted the back of her hand and said, "Why are you crying? I'm perfectly fine."
Aying wiped away her tears and rambled on about the studio's recent situation, adding that several assistants were waiting for Shang Wu to return.
A warm atmosphere filled the room.
Suddenly, the screen of Shang Wu's phone, which was on the bedside table, lit up. It was a text message from an unknown number.
Congratulations! I heard you had a daughter. I'm so glad you and your baby are both doing well. What's your baby's name?
Unsigned, with a flat tone, even a hint of detachment.
Shang Wu stared at the number, her heart skipped a beat.
The tone of voice... she almost immediately recognized the sender's identity.
Her brother, Shang Yunshen.
Back then, when she insisted on being with Lu Rang, Shang Yun Shen was the most vehemently opposed.
He believed that Shang Wu would suffer a loss, and the siblings had countless arguments over this, bringing their relationship to a freezing point.
When she got married, Shang Yunshen did not show up, but sent a gift through someone else. After that, the siblings never contacted each other again.
Unexpectedly, he had kept track of her news all along, and even sent her his regards after she gave birth.
Shang Wu gripped her phone, her fingers tightening slightly, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
She was silent for a few seconds, then looked up, smiled at Lu Rang and A Ying, and quickly tapped her fingers on the screen to reply.
Thank you. The child's nickname is Yuwu, Yu as in the Yu family and Wu as in mist. She will always be your niece. As her uncle, please come visit her when you have time.
She chose to be generous and honest.
Past grudges seem to have become less important.
After the message was sent, it disappeared without a trace, and Shang Yun Shen did not reply.
It was evening.
Yu Wu woke up, her small sobs sounding like a cat's meow.
Under the guidance of the postpartum nanny, Shang Wu awkwardly tried to breastfeed her.
There was another knock on the ward door, and this time, the figure standing in the doorway made the air in the room freeze slightly.
Shang Yun Shen has arrived.
He was wearing a dark gray overcoat, his figure was upright, and his face was still handsome, but there was a bit more melancholy and maturity between his brows than before.
He was carrying several expensive-looking gift boxes. His gaze first fell on Shang Wu, lingered for a moment with a complicated expression, and then slowly moved to the crib next to him.
Lu Rang stood up almost immediately, subconsciously taking half a step forward to block Shang Wu and the crib, his eyes carrying a hint of barely perceptible wariness.
"How did you end up here?"
Shang Yun Shen didn't seem surprised by Lu Rang's reaction.
He walked in, placed the tonics aside, and without any further pleasantries, took out a bank card from the inside pocket of his coat and handed it to Lu Rang in a calm and indifferent tone.
"A small gift for the child."
Lu Rang was stunned.
He had imagined many possible scenarios for the meeting, perhaps awkwardness, perhaps an argument, but he never expected it to be a direct handing over of a bank card.
He looked at Shang Wu, who was also somewhat surprised, but then nodded slightly to him.
Lu Rang lowered the wariness in his eyes, reached out and took the thin card, feeling the cool touch of the card on his fingertips.
He paused for a moment before speaking, his voice slightly gentler than usual: "Thank you, brother."
The way he called out "brother" was a little stiff, but it made Shang Wu, who was standing next to him, feel a slight tingling in her nose.
Shang Yun Shen seemed to be taken aback by the address. He glanced at Shang Wu, who was looking at the child tenderly on the bed, and then at Lu Rang, whose attitude had obviously softened. His tense expression seemed to soften a little.
Lu Rang carefully put the bank card away, as if he had made a decision, and took the initiative to speak, breaking the deadlock.
"Haven't had dinner yet? There's a nice restaurant nearby, wanna go together?"
This proposal surprised everyone, including Shang Yunshen.
He looked up at Lu Rang, his gaze scrutinizing him as if trying to determine the sincerity in his words.
After a few seconds of silence, Shang Yun Shen nodded: "Okay."
The two men were of contrasting personalities: one calm and aloof, the other deep and reserved.
One second they were locked in an invisible stalemate, but the next they left the ward one after the other in silence to go eat together.
Ah Ying had been hiding in the corner trying to minimize her presence, and only now did she finally let out a long sigh of relief, patting her chest in disbelief.
"My God, I was so scared I didn't dare breathe! President Lu and your brother... they actually managed to have dinner together peacefully? This is a reconciliation of the century!"
As Shang Wu gazed at the closed door, a gentle smile slowly spread across her lips.
The setting sun outside the window was just right, casting a warm glow throughout the room.
She looked down at her daughter, who was fast asleep again after eating, and gently nuzzled her soft little face.
“Yes,” she said softly, as if answering Aying, or as if telling herself, “Yuwu, look, everything is getting better.”
