Chapter 149 Before the Storm Arrives, Let's Be Happy (2)
The torrential rain didn't stop until the early hours of the morning.
Shang Wu nestled in Lu Rang's arms, buried her head and slept for a while, feeling unbearably thirsty.
She gently pushed Lu Rang's hand away, wanting to go down to get a drink of water, but Lu Rang grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
"Where to?" Lu Rang asked without opening his eyes, his voice clearly sleepy, his arms wrapped around Shang Wu's waist to prevent her from leaving.
Shang Wu smiled and nudged him, saying, "I'm going to get some water, I'm dying of thirst."
Lu Rang thought of her sobs and pleas for mercy, and smiled slightly: "Wait."
He got up to pour water for Shang Wu.
Shang Wu sat barefoot on the edge of the bed and waited, swinging her toes idly and looking out the window.
Before dawn, there were many banana trees around Wanhu Lake, each adorned with jasmine-shaped streetlights, bathing the entire lake in a soft, warm glow.
Suddenly, Shang Wu caught a glimpse of several people walking around.
Unlike the black-clad bodyguards patrolling Wanhu Lake, they were all wearing white coats.
It looked like a whole medical team, each person carrying a medicine kit, walking hurriedly, as if they were passing by on their way to Lu Zheng's residence.
It's so late, how can I call the doctor over?
Shang Wu grabbed her coat and put it on.
She went up to the second-floor terrace and waited until the group was close enough to hear each other clearly before asking.
"Is Lu Zheng feeling unwell?"
Several people looked up at her at the same time.
Everyone was wearing masks, so their expressions were not clearly visible, but if you looked closely at the upper half of their faces, you could tell that they all had very serious expressions.
The doctor at the front paused, then said in a low voice, "Mr. Lu is not feeling unwell."
Shang Wu wanted to ask more questions, but the group of people quickened their pace and left without prior arrangement.
She frowned and watched them enter Lu Zheng's villa, feeling a little strange.
"You're not wearing your shoes properly again."
Lu Rang brought in water.
Upon hearing this, Shang Wu turned around and sat down on the edge of the bed. Her feet were just dangling in the air when Lu Rang grabbed them and warmed them.
"Water," Lu Rang reminded him.
Shang Wu drank the water from the table, then playfully poked his abs with her toes.
Lu Rang raised an eyebrow: "Want to come again?"
"No, no, I'm tired." Shang Wu straightened her back as if begging for mercy, but then slumped back down feeling even more sore.
Lu Rang looked up at her: "Does it hurt? How was the experience?"
Shang Wu choked, her face turning red from his question, and she sighed with a mixture of embarrassment, annoyance, and helplessness.
Why are you being so blunt? How am I supposed to answer that?
Lu Rang chuckled, "Then give me a score, out of ten."
"Nine points," Shang Wu said.
Lu Rang was not convinced and looked directly at her, slightly aggrieved: "Where was that point deducted?"
Shang Wu blinked: "No, I just wanted to deduct it."
Lu Rang chuckled softly, then got up and kissed Shang Wu's lips.
The two kissed quietly for a while before Shang Wu remembered what had just happened and turned her head to find an opportunity to speak.
"By the way, when you went to get water just now, I saw a lot of doctors going to your father's place. Why don't you call Qianjue and ask if something happened to him?"
Lu Rang frowned, but didn't care: "He's always accompanied by a medical team, and he's in very good health. We don't need to worry about him."
"Just in case, we're having our engagement party tonight. Your father is supposed to officiate, right? What if he's not feeling well?" Shang Wu insisted that he make the call.
Lu Rang couldn't refuse, so he had no choice but to call Qian Jue.
After asking, Qianjue remained silent for a moment before saying, "Don't worry, the master is fine; it's just a routine check-up."
Shang Wu listened, nodded hesitantly, and gestured for Lu Rang to hang up the phone.
Do routine checks need to be done in the early morning?
She didn't ask any more questions, and seeing that it was still dark, she pulled Lu Rang to sleep again.
Until daybreak.
Shang Wu smelled the aroma coming from downstairs.
She squinted lazily, not wanting to move, but the door was open, and the smell kept getting into her nose.
Shang Wu's stomach couldn't help but rumble.
Suddenly, a large hand covered her stomach from under the covers.
Shang Wu took a deep breath of the aroma of the food.
Lu Rang casually pressed the phone button on the bedside table.
The landline telephone line is connected downstairs.
The maid came upstairs, stood at the door with her eyes downcast, and asked softly, "Young master, breakfast is ready."
"Bring it up."
Lu Rang gave an order.
After the maid came downstairs, he hugged Shang Wu tightly and rubbed her stomach.
Shang Wu was taken aback, but felt a warm feeling in her heart.
When she first met Lu Rang, she thought he was a money-grubbing, difficult, and trouble-averse lawyer. She never imagined they would end up together, nor did she expect Lu Rang to be so good to her when they were dating, to the point that he practically fawned over her.
Shang Wu took Lu Rang's hand and shook it, signaling him to open his eyes.
Lu Rang looked up and saw her serious expression: "What's wrong?"
"I'm really happy and honored to be with you," Shang Wu said earnestly.
Lu Rang was pleased and laughed.
He usually wore an indifferent expression, but he smiled more often in front of Shang Wu than in front of anyone else.
That's why Shang Wu loved seeing him smile and would chase after him to kiss the corner of Lu Rang's lips.
The two cuddled together for a while, then finished breakfast and went to wash up.
Shang Wu was taking a bath when Lu Rang pulled her into his arms from behind.
As steam rose, she pushed Lu Rang's arm and hurriedly turned off the shower.
"Your arm can't get wet, get out of here now."
Lu Rang ignored her and buried his face in her neck.
Shang Wu couldn't stand the tickling and chuckled, "Don't leave any marks on me, I still have to wear my engagement dress."
She should have kept quiet, because the moment she did, Lu Rang bit her, not too hard, not too soft.
Shang Wu felt a bit of pain, gasped, and pushed Lu Rang away.
All morning, even the air in the villa felt sweet.
Shang Wu felt as if she were walking on clouds, each step light and airy, so happy that she didn't feel like she was in the real world.
Around noon, people started arriving one after another.
There were makeup artists and stylists, maids who delivered several sets of custom-made jewelry, and staff who explained the engagement banquet process.
Shang Wu was somewhat taken aback.
Is it really necessary to make such a big deal out of an engagement?
She had never seen anything like this before.
Shang Wu raised her hand, her fingertips lightly tracing the dazzling jewelry, her eyes dazzled by the sight.
"Is all of this for me?"
“Yes, pick one set to wear at the engagement party, and put the rest away for later.” Lu Rang came over and looked at the clothes with her.
Shang Wu bit her lip, torn between her choices, when suddenly footsteps sounded outside the door.
Lu Zheng came in.
How are the preparations going?
Shang Wu turned around and saw his energetic state, and then thought of those doctors.
Lu Rang abandoned his usual relaxed demeanor in front of her and said indifferently, "What are you doing here? Our engagement banquet is none of your business."
Shang Wu tugged at his sleeve and answered properly, "I really like the dress and the makeup and hair styling. I'm currently picking out matching jewelry."
Lu Zheng nodded, walked over, and surveyed the jewelry on the table, pointing to the set of jewelry in the very center.
"Wear this."
Shang Wu looked over and was taken aback.
The jewelry set recommended by Lu Zheng was predominantly a vibrant, deep red.
From necklaces to earrings, the pieces feature rubies and diamonds, creating a visibly luxurious and flamboyant look.
Shang Wu never expected that Lu Zheng would have such an eye-catching aesthetic sense.
She couldn't help but say, "This seems too attention-grabbing."
"Jewelry looks best when worn boldly, especially since you're the star of the engagement party today. What's the point if you don't try to attract attention?"
Lu Zheng spoke without hesitation, as if Shang Wu was the one who should wear this suit.
Lu Rang said unhappily, "Which set to wear is Shang Wu's decision, and you don't need to give your opinion here."
Shang Wu coughed lightly and immediately interrupted, "It's fine, let's go with this one."
After she and Lu Rang finished their engagement banquet, they would stay here for a while longer.
Lu Rang was already giving Lu Zheng a cold shoulder, so she couldn't just ignore him too and make the atmosphere even more tense.
Lu Zheng nodded: "Shang Wu is so sensible. Wear this outfit. Today is an unforgettable day for you, so you should dress up as beautifully as possible."
After saying that, he left with his hands behind his back, as if he had only come here to make a formality.
Shang Wu had a vague feeling that something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
After all the clothes and accessories were finalized, the stylist and makeup artist took her upstairs.
An hour later, Lu Rang came up to bring her a drink, and then hurriedly went to change into her engagement dress.
But he left and didn't reappear by evening.
The afterglow of the setting sun floated on the horizon.
The makeup artist then fixed up her makeup.
"Miss Shang, that's enough."
Shang Wu let out a long sigh of relief by the dressing table, then stood up and walked to the full-length mirror.
The makeup and hair team inside the room all gasped in surprise.
Shang Wu wore a satin strapless dress that perfectly accentuated her waistline.
The two ambiguous red marks on her neck, faintly visible beneath the necklace, inexplicably added a touch of languid sexiness to her.
All around were bursts of praise.
Shang Wu smiled with satisfaction, looked at herself in the mirror, and casually asked, "Where's Lu Rang? Hasn't he finished getting ready yet?"
"I'll go ask."
The makeup artist left, then quickly returned.
"The master said that the young master has already gone to the south of Wanhu Lake to make preparations."
Shang Wu was startled and turned around.
Did he go to the area in the middle of the lake beforehand? Why didn't he come with me?
The makeup artist opened her mouth but couldn't answer. Just as she was about to ask again for help, Qianjue came in with a process sheet.
"The engagement banquet process needs to be adjusted. We plan to have you and the young master take separate boats, one from the north and one from the south, towards the center of the lake."
"We will have drones ready to record the whole process and try our best to capture the most beautiful and unforgettable scenes."
Shang Wu curiously took the process sheet, which showed the routes for their respective boat trips.
The design drawings are very beautiful.
As night falls, many lotus lanterns float in the center of the lake, and she takes a boat to the center of the lake.
A pink veil was lowered over the central viewing pavilion, and a red carpet stretched from where she boarded the ship all the way to the very center, with seats set up on both sides of the path.
This ensures that guests can see the romantic moment when the two get ashore and walk towards each other from all angles.
Shang Wu could already picture that scene, her eyes filled with a smile as she nodded gently.
"Okay, I understand."
Qianjue carefully put away the flowchart and gave her a half-smile.
"Miss Shang."
Shang Wu nodded: "What?"
"You're so lucky to have gained such recognition and respect from him."
These words made Shang Wu feel somewhat uncomfortable.
When she got engaged to Zhou Yanci, everyone in Lincheng said she was lucky.
As a result, she and the merchants were also completely outmaneuvered.
Shang Wu assumed that Qian Jue was simply expressing his opinion and not implying anything, so he nodded politely.
"We can set off now."
