Chapter 274 An Incurable Disease?
As soon as Madam Cheng left, Shang Wu immediately went to Lu You's side and took her arm.
She lowered her voice, her tone full of disbelief and gossip.
"I saw it all from outside just now. What is Mrs. Cheng doing? Is she really willing to give up her own shares in the shop?"
Lu You smiled helplessly and casually stuffed the equity agreement into the drawer, as if it were just a few pieces of waste paper.
“Since Cheng Zhou and I left, she has probably calmed down and figured things out. Plus, the restaurant is really doing well. She may be afraid of really losing her son completely, so she is trying to make up for it.”
Cheng Zhou said with a hint of schadenfreude, "She treats me like royalty now, afraid that I might get upset one day and stop calling her 'Mom.' But Youyou is tough; she's impervious to reason. All her sweet talk hits the nail on the head."
Shang Wu laughed, "Sister You, she treated you like that back then, and now it's too late for her to regret it. Don't waver, living your own lives well is the most important thing."
Lu Youdian nodded, her eyes clear: "Yes, I am very satisfied now. I have things I like to do and I don't have to care about anyone's opinion. This kind of freedom is more precious than any shares or jewelry."
Looking at Lu You's relaxed expression, and recalling Madam Cheng's humble demeanor just now, Shang Wu felt a pang of emotion.
She picked up the flower tea that Lu You had poured for her, took a sip, and felt relieved to see that everything was alright.
Later that evening, Shang Wu came out of the restaurant with a smile on her lips.
She got into the driver's seat and fastened her seatbelt.
The afternoon sun streamed in through the windshield, making it feel warm and cozy.
Shang Wu inexplicably felt a chill down her spine, as if a gaze was following her like a shadow.
She glanced behind her car through the rearview mirror. The street was bustling with traffic and pedestrians hurrying by; nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Is it just my imagination?
Shang Wu shook her head, probably because she was a little tired from her recent trip.
She composed herself and drove towards the studio.
Back in the studio, a rich floral fragrance wafted towards me.
Ah Ying was holding a large bouquet of fresh white lilies, humming a song, preparing to put them into a vase on the front desk.
"Mr. Shang, you're back! Look how beautiful these lilies are! They were just delivered, don't they smell wonderful?"
Ah Ying held the bouquet up a little higher, as if presenting a treasure.
Upon smelling the delicate fragrance of the flowers, Shang Wu suddenly found it extremely pungent, and a strong sense of nausea surged up from her stomach.
Her face turned pale instantly, and she took several steps back, her brows furrowing tightly.
"Aying, quick, move the flowers further away!"
Shang Wu tried hard to suppress the urge to vomit.
Aying was startled and quickly retreated to a corner with the flowers, asking anxiously, "Mr. Shang, what's wrong? You look so pale. Are you allergic to pollen? I remember you weren't allergic before..."
Shang Wu leaned against the wall and took several deep breaths before she could barely suppress the discomfort.
She also found it strange.
She did not have a history of pollen allergy, but the scent of these lilies was indeed making her dizzy and nauseous today.
"Maybe I've been too tired lately, and I can't stand strong fragrances."
Shang Wu waved her hand, not wanting A Ying to worry, "It's okay, I just need to rest for a bit. You go ahead and do your work. Put the flowers in a well-ventilated place."
Aying looked at her worriedly, but still did as she was told and walked away with the flowers.
Shang Wu returned to her office, thinking that getting away from the fragrance of flowers would help.
However, that inexplicable feeling of nausea would occasionally surge up, pressing against her stomach.
Having no other choice, Shang Wu poured herself a glass of warm water and drank it, then took one of her spare allergy medications.
But after half an hour, there was no significant improvement.
In the afternoon, Shang Wu's work efficiency dropped significantly, and the lines on the design drafts seemed to be shaking.
She forced herself to process a few emails, but felt a dull ache in her temples and general weakness.
Just before it was time to leave work, Lu Rang called right on time.
"Awu, are you off work yet? I ordered from your favorite restaurant, but it's a bit far. Shall we go there now?"
Normally, Shang Wu would definitely have readily agreed.
But at this moment, the mere mention of food caused images of the dishes to uncontrollably flash through her mind, and her stomach churned again.
"I...I'm not feeling well, and I don't have much of an appetite..."
Her voice was somewhat weak.
Lu Rang immediately sensed something was wrong, and his tone became tense.
"Are you feeling unwell? I'll come pick you up right away."
"No need..." Shang Wu wanted to refuse, but Lu Rang had already hung up the phone.
Less than twenty minutes later, Lu Rang appeared at the studio entrance.
He rushed in and took Shang Wu's hand.
Why is your face so pale?
Lu Rang frowned and reached out to touch her forehead.
"Your temperature is okay, what's wrong? Is it a headache or something else that hurts?"
Seeing his anxious expression, Shang Wu felt a warmth in her heart, but also felt that he was making a mountain out of a molehill.
She forced a smile: "I'm probably just a little tired, plus I might be allergic to pollen. The smell of lilies made me feel a bit nauseous, but it's nothing serious."
"nausea?"
Lu Rang immediately tensed up. "Besides nausea, are there any other symptoms? Come on, let's not go eat yet, I'll take you home to rest."
Without saying a word, he took Shang Wu downstairs, carefully opened the car door for her, and fastened her seatbelt.
As he drove, Lu Rang kept worrying about Shang Wu.
As we passed through a bustling commercial district, the smell of cooking oil from roadside barbecue stalls drifted in through the cracks in the car windows.
Now, Shang Wu couldn't hold back any longer; a strong feeling of nausea rushed to her throat.
"Stop the car! Stop the car now!" she urged.
Lu Rang immediately pulled over and parked the car.
Before the car had even come to a complete stop, Shang Wu pushed open the car door and rushed out, grabbing a tree trunk by the roadside and violently retching.
Because she hadn't eaten much, she couldn't vomit anything, and she was so upset that tears welled up in her eyes.
Lu Rang quickly got out of the car and gently patted her back. Seeing her discomfort, he felt both heartache and helplessness.
His face also darkened completely.
This is definitely not just simple fatigue or pollen allergy.
Once Shang Wu had recovered a little, Lu Rang immediately helped her back to the car and carefully wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes with tissues.
He didn't say anything, just got back on the car and made a phone call.
"Dr. Li, it's me, Lu Rang. Please come to my apartment right now. Yes, bring the necessary examination equipment. My wife is feeling very unwell."
"The symptoms are nausea and vomiting, fatigue, inability to eat or smell food and flowers. Okay, we'll be there in twenty minutes."
Shang Wu leaned back in her chair, listening to his arrangements, and spoke weakly.
"I don't need to call a doctor, I'll be fine after a rest."
“We must check.” Lu Rang frowned with worry. “You scared me just now, A-Wu. I can’t let anything happen to you.”
When I got back, the family doctor was already waiting at the door with his medical kit.
Lu Rang helped Shang Wu lie down on the sofa.
The doctor first asked Shang Wu about her specific symptoms and feelings, and then took out a stethoscope to listen to her heart and lungs, and measured her blood pressure and temperature.
Everything seems to be normal.
"Mrs. Lu, besides nausea and fatigue, have you been experiencing any other symptoms lately? For example, is your period regular?"
Dr. Li asked the question casually.
Shang Wu was taken aback by the question and thought about it carefully.
It seems it was only delayed by a few days.
However, due to work pressure and the effects of a previous miscarriage, her periods had never been very regular, so she didn't pay much attention to it.
"It was delayed by a few days," she answered truthfully.
Dr. Li nodded, a knowing glint in his eyes, but said nothing more.
He put away his stethoscope and said to Lu Rang, "Mr. Lu, the basic examination shows no major problems. There are some things I need to discuss with you privately. Shall we go to the study?"
Should we communicate one-on-one?
Shang Wu's heart sank.
Why bring this up separately? Is her condition very serious, or is it some kind of bad illness that the doctor can't tell her directly?
Lu Rang was also taken aback.
He nodded and patted Shang Wu's hand reassuringly: "A-Wu, lie down for a while, I'll be right back."
Watching Lu Rang and the doctor walk into the study one after the other and close the door, Shang Wu lay on the sofa, feeling a chill run through her body.
She couldn't help but think of the child who had been lost unexpectedly before.
I don't know if my current illness is because of the damage I did to my health back then.
Shang Wu gripped the sofa cushion tightly beneath her.
What should Lu Rang do if she really becomes seriously ill?
They had just finished their wedding and returned from their honeymoon; their happy life was just beginning.
Shang Wu became increasingly panicked.
Inside the study.
The doctor looked at Lu Rang with a reassuring smile and said in a low voice, "Mr. Lu, please don't worry. Based on Mrs. Lu's symptoms and delayed menstruation, I initially judge that this is very likely an early pregnancy reaction."
"Early pregnancy?"
Lu Rang subconsciously repeated it, his face full of incredulous surprise, "You mean A-Wu is pregnant?"
"The possibility is very high."
Dr. Li nodded affirmatively, "Nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and sensitivity to smells are all typical symptoms of early pregnancy."
Of course, to be absolutely certain, I suggest taking Mrs. Lu to the hospital tomorrow morning for a thorough examination; that's the most accurate way.
Lu Rang was at a loss for what to do.
"So, how is she feeling now? Is it alright that she's vomiting so much? What precautions should we take?"
The doctor smiled and said, "Although Mrs. Lu is weak, she has recovered very well recently. It is normal for her to have morning sickness."
Make sure she gets plenty of rest, gets enough nutrition, eats small, frequent meals, and avoids exposure to odors that make her uncomfortable. Once confirmed, regular prenatal checkups are fine.
"Okay, I will definitely pay attention."
Lu Rang listened carefully and wrote down all the important notes.
Shang Wu couldn't hear the conversation inside; she could only see the tightly closed door, which made her increasingly uneasy.
She even began to imagine Lu Rang's pained expression upon hearing the bad news, and to imagine herself lying in a hospital bed.
After what seemed like an eternity, the door was finally opened.
When Lu Rang and the doctor came out, Shang Wu saw that Lu Rang's face did not show the sadness she had expected.
Lu Rang walked a few steps to the sofa, squatted down, and tightly grasped Shang Wu's cold hand. His lips moved as if he wanted to say something, but he was too excited to speak for a moment.
Seeing him like this, Shang Wu felt even more terrified.
Was he so heartbroken that he lost his mind? Or had his condition become so severe that he couldn't bear it anymore?
Rain gripped his hand tightly, her voice trembling, and asked desperately, "Lu Rang, doctor, what's wrong with me? Tell me, do I have some incurable disease?"
