Chapter 57 Taking her away in front of Zhou Yanci

Chapter 57 Taking her away in front of Zhou Yanci

Shang Wu wrapped herself tightly in her bathrobe, went downstairs, and sat down on the sofa.

Her hair was half-wet, and her cheeks were flushed from the steam in the bathroom.

Zhou Yanci's eyes darkened as she looked at Shang Wu under the lamplight, finding her even more captivating.

With such top-tier looks and physique, it takes real willpower for him to have endured it for three years.

Even he himself admires himself.

If we don't find a way to test Shang Wu's feelings soon, I'm afraid he won't be able to stand it.

He pushed the glass of water towards Shang Wu.

"Ah Wu, calm down and have a glass of water. We'll talk slowly."

Shang Wu picked up her water glass, took two sips, and put it down. "Just say it."

Zhou Yanci gave her a deep look.

"I'm sorry, I was wrong just now. I shouldn't have acted that way on impulse. But it was late at night, and we were a man and a woman alone together. We were engaged, so wasn't it normal for me to have such thoughts?"

His tone carried a sense of entitlement.

"You can't be completely angry with me and refuse to forgive me, can you?"

He took the initiative to soften his stance, his words filled with flattery.

Shang Wu also knew when to stop while he was ahead.

The person is still here; if we provoke the other party, who knows what might happen.

Her expression softened, she tucked a stray hair behind her ear, and said softly, "I'm not angry with you, nor am I unwilling to let you touch me. It's just that my parents taught me from a young age to respect and love myself, and not to give myself away casually until it's really time to settle down, get married, and have children."

Shang Wu's eyes trembled slightly: "With my brother's situation right now, I have no mood to think about anything else. Please stop pressuring me, okay?"

"Okay, okay, I'll do whatever you say." Zhou Yanci was unusually agreeable and readily agreed. "I'll go to the bathroom first. I'll sleep on the sofa in the living room tonight, and I promise I won't touch you, okay?"

Shang Wu sensed something was off about his gentle, coaxing tone.

She narrowed her eyes slightly and nodded imperceptibly.

"good."

A dark glint flashed in Zhou Yanci's eyes as she turned and walked into the first-floor restroom, her eyes filled with a resolute light.

No matter how aloof Shang Wu is, once the effects of the drug kick in, she will be incredibly eager to beg him to take her.

He wanted to see whether Shang Wu would grovel before him, begging for his favor, or remain aloof and reject him.

Zhou Yanci went into the bathroom, closed the door, and waited for the medicine to take effect.

Within seconds, Shang Wu felt unwell all over.

She unconsciously scratched her arm; her skin was still incredibly itchy.

Shang Wu went to find the first-aid kit, and inadvertently looked down and saw a tube of medicine in the trash can next to her.

The medicine inside was completely empty.

Shang Wu froze, the itching sensation on her skin constantly stimulating her.

No, she's fallen for their trap.

There's something wrong with the water I just drank!

But Zhou Yanci probably never imagined that she was naturally sensitive to these kinds of things, and even if she was drugged, her situation would be different from others.

She only has allergies, experiencing pain and itching all over her body.

Although this feeling tormented her, she would not lose her mind or completely succumb to the effects of the drug.

Shang Wu became increasingly unable to control herself, scratching her arm until it left bloody welts.

She stood up to get the first-aid kit when the doorbell rang.

Shang Wu was stunned for a moment, and before she could react, Zhou Yanci came out of the restroom first.

He noticed the bright red marks on Shang Wu's arm, raised his eyebrows in surprise, and then looked towards the door.

Who would come so late?

Shang Wu's heart sank.

It was Lu Rang.

In a moment of panic, she called Lu Rang.

Before Shang Wu could answer, Zhou Yanci had already walked over and opened the door.

Their eyes met, and they both froze for a moment.

Lu Rang arrived in a hurry, wearing a thin dark gray sweater, which made his face appear even more calm and aloof.

He first glanced at Zhou Yanci, then looked at Shang Wu inside.

Shang Wu frowned slightly and nodded at him.

"Why are you here? What are you doing here in the middle of the night looking for my fiancée!" Zhou Yanci stared at Lu Rang with displeasure, her eyes full of vigilance.

Lu Rang remained calm: "I'm here to talk about work."

"Talking about work?" Zhou Yanci smiled, crossing his arms and giving him a meaningful look.

"What about the documents you used for work discussions? Didn't you bring them?"

"No need to bring any documents, just speak."

Lu Rang maintained a calm and aloof demeanor throughout.

It seems that Zhou Yanci is being unreasonable and making baseless suspicions.

Zhou Yanci said unhappily, "Fine, then I'll also listen to what kind of work you want to discuss with my fiancée. Why do you have to come over in the middle of the night to talk about it?"

Lu Rang glanced at him indifferently, then brushed past him and came in.

Shang Wu's breathing became slightly labored, and she seemed a little nervous.

She could tell that Lu Rang had just said it casually.

Now she must dispel Zhou Yanci's suspicions.

Shang Wu's eyes flickered, and suddenly she swayed and fell onto the sofa.

Zhou Yanci and Lu Rang reached out to help her at the same time.

Shang Wu pretended not to see Zhou Yanci's hand, and instead reached past him to tightly grab Lu Rang's clothes.

"Speak quickly, call an ambulance for me! I've been having trouble breathing and my whole body is itchy since just now, like I'm allergic to something."

Her skin was an unnatural pink, and her neck was covered in a visible layer of cold sweat.

Zhou Yanci suddenly realized that Shang Wu was not reacting to this medicine.

He was somewhat wary, fearing that Shang Wu's allergic reaction would worsen and endanger her life, so he immediately grabbed his phone.

"Just bear with it a little longer, I'll call an ambulance right away!"

Lu Rang glanced at him, then helped Shang Wu up from the sofa and put his arm around her waist.

Zhou Yanci saw it clearly and immediately put down her phone, scolding, "What are you doing!"

Lu Rang gave him a cold look: "By the time you call an ambulance, she'll be dead."

He helped Shang Wu out of the house and settled her into his car.

As soon as Lu Rang sat down, he saw Zhou Yanci rushing over with Shang Wu's coat in hand.

He had a cold expression and stepped on the gas when Zhou Yanci reached the car door.

With a roar, his car shot forward.

Zhou Yanci was almost hit by the wind and took two steps back to avoid it.

"Hey, what are you doing! I haven't even gotten on the bus yet!"

He yelled at the spot, but the car didn't stop at all.

Zhou Yanci was furious. He turned around, got into his car, and followed closely behind.

Despite the car being well-heated, Shang Wu still felt chilly.

She kept rubbing and scratching the itchy spots on her arm. The more it bled, the more painful it became. The pain was mixed with itchiness, and she was so uncomfortable that it was becoming increasingly difficult to breathe.

Lu Rang glanced at her in the rearview mirror, then silently stepped on the gas and sped up.

By the time they arrived at the hospital, Shang Wu was in so much pain that she felt like she was about to bang her head against the wall and faint.

She was trembling slightly, struggling to endure the pain.

Lu opened the car door and helped her.

Shang Wu's legs went weak, and she bumped into him.

Behind them, Zhou Yanci's car had just caught up and stopped.

Lu Rang pursed his lips, bent down, wrapped his long arms around Shang Wu's legs, and lifted her up by the waist.

Shang Wu was taken aback and quickly nudged his shoulder.

"Don't do that, he's behind us..."

"You still have the leisure to care about him?" Lu Rang's gaze fell on Shang Wu, with a hint of dissatisfaction.

Shang Wu was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously withdrew the hand that was being pushed towards him.

Lu Rang gently lifted her into his arms and quickly walked towards the hospital's emergency room.

Zhou Yanci parked the car and, upon seeing this scene, her face instantly darkened.

He quickly followed, trying to snatch it from Lu Rang.

But before he could catch up, two nurses and a doctor came out, took Shang Wu, and sent her into the emergency room.

Zhou Yanci stood at the door, but was told by the nurse that her companion was not allowed to go in.

He stood still, clenched his fists, and stared coldly at Lu Rang.

"Attorney Lu."

His eyes were full of suspicion: "My fiancée had an accident, and you're so worried, driving her around and hugging her. Am I mistaken? Aren't you the one who's engaged to her?"

His tone was filled with a hint of displeasure, as if he wanted to settle accounts.

Lu Rang turned away, ignoring Zhou Yanci, and sat on the bench, calmly straightening his sleeves.

He said nonchalantly, "Spreading rumors will take you to court. Don't challenge my expertise. Instead of doubting this, you should worry about your fiancée's allergic reaction. I wonder what she ate that she shouldn't have."

Lu Rang's words were loaded with meaning, carrying a subtle hint of intimidation and warning.

Zhou Yanci was suddenly stunned. Thinking of the medicine he had put in the water glass, he felt guilty and his eyes flickered.

He snorted and ignored Lu Rang.

The two stood back to back, and it took more than half an hour before the emergency room door was opened.

Zhou Yanci immediately strode forward to meet him.

Lu Rang looked up at the doctor who came out.

"Doctor, how is she? Is my fiancée alright?" Zhou Yanci asked anxiously.

The doctor took off his mask and sighed softly.

"She is allergic to a substance called elm extract. She must have accidentally ingested food containing this substance to have such a strong reaction. If the dosage of this substance is too high, it can cause cardiac arrest and death. You will have to take extra care of her in the future to prevent this from happening again."

Zhou Yanci was taken aback. He blurted out, "It's that serious?"

"Yes," the doctor said, looking at him with a puzzled expression. "Isn't this your fiancée? Don't you know what she's allergic to?"

Zhou Yanci was speechless and felt somewhat embarrassed.

He coughed twice: "I... I've never heard her mention it before."

Lu Rang pressed further, "Does he need to be hospitalized for observation?"

"The medication has worn off. We should have her stomach pumped, but there's no way to clear the allergens from her body right now, so we can only treat her slowly with IV fluids."

After the nurse finished explaining, she emphasized, "You can't leave the hospital tonight; you need to continue to be observed. Otherwise, we won't be able to detect any subsequent problems."

Zhou Yanci was absent-minded, constantly thinking about the things in the living room trash can.

If Shang Wu found out that he had put something in the water, his image would be completely ruined.

He couldn't sit still any longer and glanced coldly at Lu Rang.

"You stay here and help out for a bit. I'm going home to get something and I'll be right back. I'm warning you, don't you dare lay a hand on Shang Wu while I'm gone!"

Lu Rang glanced at him indifferently, his gaze filled with contempt and a hint of coldness.

He ignored Zhou Yanci and stepped into the ward.

Inside the room, Shang Wu lay quietly with her eyes closed.

Lu Rang closed the ward door.

"No need to pretend anymore, he's not here."
