Chapter 72 Discovered by the Yu Family Bodyguards
Shang Wu tried calling Zhou Yanci, but the call didn't go through; the phone was switched off.
Having no way of verifying the information's authenticity, she decided to make a trip to Wanhu.
On the way, she bought a men's black trench coat, put on a baseball cap, and hurried to the route that she and Lu Rang had previously explored together.
Shang Wu drove his car to an intersection far from Wanhu Lake. He noticed that the reporters didn't dare to approach Wanhu Lake and parked their vehicles far away to film.
Shang Wu got off the bus and walked for ten minutes to reach the intersection of Shulin Road, where she went in based on her previous memory.
She couldn't go directly to the villa area, but she could at least get closer to see what was going on there.
If the crime scene needed to be preserved, Ji Yu would definitely be lying there right now, covered with a white sheet.
But if Ji Yu were still alive, she would have been taken to the hospital and wouldn't be at the scene.
It can be confirmed at a glance.
Shang Wu lowered the brim of her hat and walked quickly with her head down the whole way.
A man's low growl suddenly came from behind.
"Halt! Who are you?"
Shang Wu suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned around to see several bodyguards staring at her warily.
Shang Wu was taken aback.
Her heart tightened slightly, and she lowered her eyes.
That was a miscalculation.
Something happened in the villa area that had nothing to do with the Yu family, but it dragged them into it.
The Yu family will definitely send someone to investigate what's going on; it just so happens that she stumbled upon it.
"I'm asking you a question! What are you doing here, a woman dressed in men's clothes?"
"Who goes there! Are you a reporter?"
Shang Wu looked embarrassed and apologized softly, "I'm sorry, I am indeed a reporter from the Thai Times. I didn't come here on purpose. I just wanted to get some information."
The bodyguard squinted.
How did you know about the entrance here?
"This area has direct access to the villa district of Wanhu Lake. Have you scouted it out before?"
The bodyguards surrounded Shang Wu while asking her questions.
Shang Wu clenched her sleeves, unsure how to answer.
One of the bodyguards reached out and grabbed her arm.
"Show me your press pass, let me see who you really are!"
Shang Wu's fingertips curled up, but she pretended to be calm. "I left it at work. Should I go get it for you now?"
"You're trying to run away, aren't you? Come with us!"
Several people grabbed Shang Wu and took her away.
Shang Wu's expression turned cold. Just as she was about to struggle, she turned around and saw a figure walking towards her.
She was surprised.
Lu Rang?
As soon as the bodyguards saw Lu Rang, they immediately released Shang Wu and bowed their heads to Lu Rang.
Before they could speak, Lu Rang interrupted, "Gentlemen, I brought this young lady here. I hope you won't take offense at her. She's not a bad person, and she doesn't have any ulterior motives."
Shang Wu looked at him in astonishment, then at the bodyguards.
Does Lu Rang really have connections with the Yu family?
The bodyguards nodded in unison.
"Okay, so you are... a friend of Attorney Lu. We misunderstood."
They dropped their fierce demeanor and instead apologized to Shang Wu.
"Excuse me, miss, we didn't know who you were. Something happened in the villa area, and we came to patrol for security reasons."
Shang Wu immediately pressed, "Has there been a case of someone jumping off a building to commit suicide? Is that person actually dead?"
The bodyguard didn't answer immediately, but instead looked at Lu Rang beside him.
Lu Rang nodded to them.
The bodyguard replied, "No, he's already been taken to the hospital."
Upon receiving this answer, Shang Wu finally breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as she's not dead, that's fine. She was even thinking of using Ji Yu to uncover more clues about the merchant case.
Few people knew about the dealings with the merchants; Ji Yu was the key figure.
She can't afford to get into trouble at a time like this.
After the bodyguards left, Shang Wu nodded to Lu Rang.
"I need to go to the hospital now."
"I'll go with you."
Lu Rang turned around and got into the car with her side by side, then suddenly noticed the coat she was wearing.
"Is this dress Zhou Yanci's?"
Shang Wu paused, then shook his head.
"I was afraid of being recognized, so I bought a men's coat on the street. Why?"
Lu Rang lowered his eyes: "I was just asking. I remember I still have a coat with you. If you need one next time, wear mine."
Shang Wu's eyes flickered.
"No need, it's inconvenient."
Lu Rang's slightly curved lips gradually froze.
Before he could speak, Shang Wu had already walked around to the driver's seat and looked up at him.
"What are you waiting for? Get in the car."
Lu Rang pursed his lips and followed her into the car.
Shang Wu drove to the hospital, but didn't see Lu Rang's gradually solemn expression; she was only thinking about Ji Yu.
Ji Yu is currently being held captive by Zhou Yanci, and must be suffering torture at his hands.
The reason she jumped off the building today is either because Zhou Yanci wanted to get rid of her, or because she couldn't stand Zhou Yanci's control and jumped out of the window to escape.
It now seems more likely that the latter is the case.
If Zhou Yanci wanted to get rid of Ji Yu completely, she wouldn't have thrown her off the second floor of the villa complex from such a low building.
Besides, that's the Yu family's territory. If things get out of hand and cause a huge commotion, it will be hard to explain.
Zhou Yanci didn't have that kind of guts.
Unexpectedly, before she could move Ji Yu out, Ji Yu herself had an accident.
This is an opportunity to take control of Ji Yu.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Shang Wu rushed to the ward.
As soon as she arrived at the room upstairs, she saw a nurse bandaging Ji Yu's wound.
Ji Yu's arms and entire leg were wrapped in gauze, making her look like a mummy.
Shang Wu narrowed her eyes slightly and pushed the door open to go inside.
"I'm really disappointed that you didn't die from the fall."
Upon hearing Shang Wu's words, Ji Yu suddenly sat up in bed.
Lu Rang stepped forward and put his hand to protect Shang Wu.
Shang Wu glanced at him without showing any emotion.
Ji Yu didn't even bother to ask the nurse to bandage her up. She knelt on the bed with difficulty and kowtowed to Shang Wu in a disheveled manner.
"Ah Wu, I'm begging you! Please save me! Please save me! Zhou Yanci is trying to kill me, I can't take it anymore!"
"Every day I'm there is torture. Take me away!"
Shang Wu glanced at her in surprise and saw that every time she kowtowed, the back of her neck was covered with numerous scars.
She walked over, pulled open Ji Yu's collar, and saw that her neck was covered with marks from being hit.
If there are scars on the neck, one can imagine what the rest of the body looks like.
She looked at Ji Yu, frowning, "What has Zhou Yanci done to you in the villa area these past few days?"
“After I escaped last time, Zhou Yanci refused to let me go and kept having people torture me in various ways. He refused to show himself and handed me over to the guards who were watching me.”
As Ji Yu finished speaking, she closed her eyes in anguish.
"Those people eventually developed evil intentions."
Ji Yu cried uncontrollably: "They, they took turns doing those things to me... They burned me with cigarette butts, beat me in all sorts of ways, and took their anger out on me whenever they were in a bad mood!"
Shang Wu pursed her lips slightly.
"I'd rather die than wait there to die!"
Ji Yu cried harder and harder, and the gauze on her arm was coming off.
The nurse quickly bandaged her up and immobilized her.
Shang Wu nodded to the nurse.
"You've worked hard. Go out now. I have something to say to her alone."
The nurse left the ward.
Shang Wu then looked at Lu Rang.
Lu Rang paused slightly: "Do I need to go out too?"
"Otherwise what?" Shang Wu retorted.
Lu Rang pursed his lips even tighter, said nothing, and closed the door for them as he left.
Shang Wu found it amusing to see Ji Yu's pitiful and frightened state.
"You've finally met your match. Weren't you invincible when you teamed up with Zhou Yanci? How come you're now his prisoner? Don't you think this is retribution?"
“My parents and my brother used to treat you well, treating you like family. They thought you were their only best friend, and they went to great lengths to cherish you, hoping our friendship would last forever. But what did you do?”
Shang Wu grabbed Ji Yu's chin and, seeing her terrified expression, slapped her across the face.
Ji Yu was slapped onto the bed, trembling and afraid to look up.
"You colluded with Zhou Yanci to target businesses and me, exploiting me relentlessly for ten years without ever being worthy of my trust. Now you expect me to save you? Do you think that's even possible?"
Shang Wu shook his hand, his eyes filled with nothing but anger.
Once, she went to a temple to pray for peace. The amulet had her family written on it, followed by Ji Yu.
In the past, Ji Yu was like a sister to her.
She never imagined that her closest sister would be the ungrateful wretch who hurt her the most.
Ji Yu covered her face, unable to even cry out in pain.
She looked at Shang Wu as if she had seen a ghost.
"You know everything? You even know this!"
Yes, I know.
Shang Wu smiled enigmatically: "You've been staying in the villa area for so long, you haven't even heard what's happening outside, have you?"
Ji Yu shook her head.
Shang Wu curled her lips: "I not only found out that you were responsible for the downfall of the business, but I also took control of Zhou Yanci's company shares. I know that all his assets have been taken away by me, and he is now an unemployed bum."
"How could this happen?" Ji Yu was stunned.
She thought Zhou Yanci was the smartest and most ruthless person she had ever met, and that no one could outmaneuver him.
He alone could bankrupt a long-established business in an instant, let alone deal with a mere merchant.
In just half a month, such earth-shattering changes have taken place outside.
Ji Yu was stunned.
Shang Wu leaned down and pressed down on the edge of the bed, his cold gaze piercing her like ice thorns.
"I'm only giving you two choices now. First, confess all the evidence related to the merchant's case. I can save you now. After you recover, help me deal with Zhou Yanci and send him to prison."
Ji Yu wore an indescribable expression.
"And the second one?"
"Secondly, now that you know my plan, it's very likely to leak out. Only the dead keep their mouths shut. You didn't die today, but I have a hundred ways to kill you. It just so happens that the news reports about you jumping off a building to commit suicide. Even if you die, no one will suspect anything."
Shang Wu curled into a smile, his eyes filled with a bloodthirsty coldness that showed he had everything under control.
Ji Yu was frightened by her murderous look.
She was utterly despondent: "What other choice do I have? In that case, I can only choose the first one."
Shang Wu didn't show it on the surface, but he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
“I also want to warn you that if you reveal what Zhou Yanci did back then, as an ally, you will also have to go to jail. But compared to that, it will be more comfortable to atone for your sins in prison.”
Ji Yu was speechless, her face ashen.
"I understand... I understand..."
Shang Wu composed herself and said coldly, "I will move you away in the next two days."
"What about Zhou Yanci? How are you going to explain things to them?" Ji Yu asked worriedly, afraid that she wouldn't be able to keep it a secret.
Just as Shang Wu was about to speak, the ward door was suddenly kicked open.
Zhou Yanci rushed in anxiously.
