Qin Chen arrived quickly. When the Maybach stopped in front of Lin Sui, Lin Sui was still squatting at the door of the nightclub because his wound was so painful.
People are really different. The woman being interviewed was in a much worse state than her. But now she gritted her teeth, put on some makeup, and continued her social engagements... When the car stopped, the first thing that caught Lin Sui's eyes was a pair of leather shoes. Looking up, she saw long legs in suit pants. Looking up again, she saw Qin Chen's condescending face.
"You're coming, woooo, it hurts so much!"
Lin Sui held back her tears and cried. She staggered to her feet and pointed at her ribs.
"I think I have broken ribs. It hurts so much that I can't breathe."
Qin Chen looked at her with a cold face for a long time, then he turned around and opened the car door.
"Get in the car, I'll take you to the hospital."
Lin Sui stood there without moving.
She wondered if Qin Chen would hold her if she said she couldn't walk anymore.
In the end, he still had some dignity and limped into the car.
All the patients who came to the hospital at night were in emergency. Lin Sui finally had a CT scan, which showed that there was no fracture.
However, he had multiple soft tissue contusions on his body and needed to be hospitalized for observation overnight. Qin Chen directly opened a single room for him. Lin Sui lay on the bed obediently, enduring the nurse applying medicine and hanging an anti-inflammatory drip.
Qin Chen didn't say a second word to Lin Sui until the nurse finished her work and left the ward.
"I'm going back. You can take care of yourself."
Lin Sui never expected this to happen. Seeing Qin Chen about to leave the ward with his long legs, Lin Sui didn't care about the IV in his hand and hurriedly got out of bed.
"Why!"
Qin Chen turned around and saw Lin Sui standing on the ground barefoot, frowning.
"Go back and lie down."
Lin Sui did as he was told.
"You're leaving just like that?" Lin Sui was a little anxious. "I, I haven't had dinner yet..."
Lin Sui's stomach growled twice in a very cooperative manner.
Qin Chen nodded and went out again. After a while, he brought two large bags of food and placed them in front of Lin Sui's bed.
"It's too late, everything nearby is closed, so I'll just have to make do with what I have."
Lin Sui opened it and saw hot oden and some non-spicy snacks, all of which he had loved to eat. His eyes couldn't help but feel sore again.
While eating, he told Qin Chen about what happened today.
"You don't know how perverted that person is. He didn't even ask a question and even beat me up!"
Qin Chen sat in a chair next to the bed, listening silently with no expression on his face.
Lin Sui was completely immersed in his own world.
"But this is nothing compared to my last interview..."
"I have to go."
"ah?"
Lin Sui's mouth was full and she looked at Qin Chen in confusion.
"After you finish eating, take a rest and call your husband. It's a big deal and you still need him to take care of you."
Qin Chen stood up and prepared to leave again.
Lin Sui suddenly felt that the food in her mouth had no taste at all. She swallowed it carelessly and asked, staring at Qin Chen's back as he left.
"Why did you change your phone number?"
Qin Chen stopped without even turning his head.
"Things that are no longer useful should be replaced."
In one sentence, Lin Sui's psychological defenses were broken down again.
"What is useless?"
Lin Sui asked unwillingly.
Qin Chen put down the hand that was holding the door handle, turned around suddenly, his eyes red, and stared at Lin Sui.
"You ask me what is useless? Don't you know better than me? If it has no use value, it is useless.
Empty water bottles, used trash, and men without money—aren’t these all useless things?
Lin Sui understood the implication of Qin Chen's words, and she smiled decadently.
"Sure enough, you're still blaming me."
Qin Chen also laughed.
"Actually, no. If you don't mention the past, I can accept us being just ordinary friends."
Lin Sui tilted his head with an arrogant expression.
"What if I insist on mentioning it?"
"Then I'm sorry I can't keep you company." Qin Chen rubbed his eyebrows, feeling very tired.
"Lin Sui, I don't know why you came to me again. I hope I'm overthinking it. I just want to tell you that the past is the past. Now you're married and I have a girlfriend. Isn't that great?"
"Do you love her?" Lin Sui looked straight into Qin Chen's eyes.
Qin Chen dodged for a moment, then looked back. His tone was firm.
"I love her."
Lin Sui felt all the blood flowing backwards, it was as cold as the winter with temperatures dozens of degrees below zero, and she suddenly felt like vomiting.
"Okay, I understand."
Lin Sui smiled and returned to his polite mode.
"Thank you for taking me to the hospital. I'm sorry to bother you so late at night. I won't do that again."
Qin Chen nodded, turned around and strode out of the ward.
As soon as Qin Chen left, Lin Sui covered her mouth and ran to the bathroom, vomiting everything she had just eaten. She sat on the ground dejectedly, biting her arm and crying.
The next day, regardless of the doctor's request to stay, Lin Sui insisted on being discharged from the hospital.
There is still a manuscript to be written, and Lin Sui cannot afford to delay work. Only work can give her the little sense of security.
The car had been repaired, and Lin Sui took back the second-hand Volkswagen and drove it back home.
As soon as I entered the door, I felt something was wrong. A faint sound came from the second floor, and the sound became clearer the higher I went.
Lin Sui stopped in her tracks. She already knew what it was, so there was no need to go up to confirm. She turned around, went downstairs, opened the refrigerator, and saw some vegetables left. She prepared to make some vegetable and egg noodles.
She played old songs on her cell phone, humming along while cooking noodles, not caring at all about the view upstairs.
While they were sitting at the dining table and enjoying their meal, Zhou Dang led the woman downstairs.
"Ah!" Seeing Lin Sui, the woman was so scared that she trembled and hid behind Zhou Dang.
Zhou Dang was quite calm and raised an eyebrow at Lin Sui, "Are you back?"
Lin Sui nodded and continued eating noodles without any sign of anger.
Zhou Dang took out his cell phone from his pocket, pressed a few buttons, then looked up and said to the woman next to him.
"I've transferred the money to you. Take a taxi and leave."
The woman took out her cell phone, quickly collected the money, and left happily.
"Oh, I've been exercising for a long time and I'm starving!"
Zhou Dang walked to the dining table in two steps, snatched Lin Sui's bowl of noodles and chopsticks, and started eating with big mouthfuls.
Lin Sui served herself another bowl with an expressionless face. She was really hungry. She hadn't eaten anything since she vomited yesterday.
Zhou Dang finished a bowl of noodles in two bites, looked up at Lin Sui, narrowed his eyes, reached out and tucked Lin Sui's hair behind her ears, and spoke in a serious tone.
"Who hit you?"
"No, there was an accident during the interview."
Lin Sui's tone was calm.
Zhou Dang frowned and looked her up and down.
"Why don't you just quit that crappy job of yours and come to my company and be my secretary."
