Chapter 142 It’s another year of heavy snow

Several people stayed at the inn. "Miss, are you coming back?"

"I can't make up my mind for the moment."

"I think you shouldn't go back for now. It's cold now. What if it snows halfway? That would be very dangerous. It's better to send a letter back first, telling you everything you need to know. It won't be too late to go back in the spring."

Chunxiao thought about it and realized that this was indeed the case. If they got stuck on the road, someone could die. So, that night, she wrote a letter at the inn, explaining what was happening back home and making some arrangements for her own affairs. For example, she planned to sell the chickens from her family and the farm to the restaurant, and to pickle and dry the pigs from the farm after slaughtering them. In short, she wrote down every little thing she could think of. After all, a piece of paper was a gift, and a stack of paper was a gift too.

The next day, she handed the letter between her and Yan Mingli to Ma Xing and gave him the specific address of her home. Because it had to be delivered to his home, although it was only a letter, it still required a travel fee of 5 taels of silver. Chunxiao paid the money readily.

After leaving the horse dealership, they went to the brokerage to pick up the people, and then went to the livestock market together. Most of these people knew how to drive cattle. Chunxiao and his companions didn't waste any time and gave the market guarantor one tael of silver to help him choose 14 cows. It usually wasn't a big problem for a guarantor to choose cattle.

I also bought 8 ox carts from a nearby car dealership. After buying the things, I hurried back.

Yan Mingli was driving an ox cart and leading people in the front, with several men riding oxen in the middle. Chunxiao was walking at the end because she was afraid that if she was riding in the carriage in front, she would accidentally lose people.

It took the group of people a whole day to return to the farm in Huangkou Village after dark. Everyone was cold and hungry. Fortunately, the people who stayed behind had already prepared meals for them and lit a stove. They ate around the stove and felt better.

After dinner, Chunxiao took her people back to her own farm.

Today Chunwu and Chunliu came to help. Oil lamps were lit in several houses in the yard. Xingfu took them to choose a room and asked Chunwu to boil water for them.

"It's too late to talk about it today. You should all go wash up and go to bed first. I'll tell you about the farm tomorrow. These quilts are newly made by the owner. I know you were cold during the day, so you should all sleep and warm up."

Xingfu took Chunxiao to the main courtyard.

"How are Chunwu and Chunliu arranged? Are there enough quilts?"

"Don't worry, Miss. There are ten servant rooms, and there are still three left. Last time we put 35 quilts here, and 24 of them are used in the seven rooms. You have 3 quilts here, and the other two rooms have 3 quilts each. Chunwu and I will sleep together today, so there are enough quilts."

"Did you bring the cloth and cotton?" They looked so cold when they got off the car today. It seemed that their clothes were too thin.

"I took it. I told Chunwu and Chunliu to take it yesterday. I asked them when they came back. They took 250 kilograms of cotton and 40 bolts of cloth, including the ones for the people from the farm over there. I'll give them each a bolt tomorrow. One bolt is enough to make two sets of winter clothes and two sets of spring clothes."

"You can make arrangements here for a few days. I will find someone to replace you in a few days. After the New Year, you will live here permanently. Take advantage of the time before the New Year to learn as much as you can from the teacher."

Xingfu nodded, "Miss, you trust me to hand over the farm to me. I will definitely help you take good care of it."

Chun Xiao looked at her and said, "When the new year comes, you should marry Zhao Shitou. I'll feel more at ease with your family together."

Xingfu lowered his head and said nothing. After a while, he spoke, "The lady's contract has not been signed with us yet."

"Why rush? You have to sign anyway." He took out a household registration document and said, "When I went to the government office yesterday to register them, I also registered yours. Now you are a good citizen. Your household address is here in Huangshan Village. Take good care of it."

Happiness suddenly knelt down, "Miss!" she uttered incoherently.

Chunxiao hurriedly helped her up. "Look at you. You don't even mind the cold ground in the middle of winter. Don't tell Zhao Shitou yet. I haven't collected the redemption money yet. I have to give you some money to live on." She smiled and wiped the tears from her happy face. "Why are you crying over such a happy thing? Smile quickly."

Only then did Happiness smile embarrassedly.

After explaining everything to Xingfu, Chunxiao returned to Luokou Town early the next morning.

Zhuangzi still had guests, and she was worried about him being away for too long. Two days later, she arranged for two more Spring Courtyard leaders to go over and temporarily bring back happiness.

On November 21st, heavy snow fell from the sky. The work in the fields had long been finished, and everyone in the village stayed in their rooms. Because of the snow, classes were also suspended.

Chunxiao finally had a complete rest. On snowy days, she would sit by the stove and watch the snow outside. She swept the snow every day, but it would be cleared on the first day and covered the yard again on the second day.

It was the first time for Chunxiao to see snow falling for such a long time. There had been heavy snow in the village before, but it only lasted three or four days. Now it has been snowing for five or six days and it doesn't seem to stop. Fortunately, each courtyard had a month's supply of oil, salt, sauce and vinegar, and the firewood room was already full, so there was no need to worry.

She didn't know what was happening at Yard 4. After all, it was her territory now. If anything happened, she wouldn't be able to explain herself. But even though she was worried, the snow wouldn't stop, and there was nothing she could do. She hoped these people would be more alert. Yard 4 wasn't far from Yard 3, so if anything happened, they could ask for help.

She watched the falling snow in the courtyard from the main hall every day. She wondered if the messenger had gotten stuck on the road in such heavy snow. Perhaps it was just snowing in Pengdong, not Qingzhou. With such heavy snow, her eldest brother's soybeans in the field might not be safe.
