Chapter 15 Countdown to moving into the new home

"Did you just go to the end of the village? All the furniture and other things have been put in today, except for two basins. What do you think?" Yan Bingfa pulled a stool for Chunxiao to sit on.

"Dad, it's fine. I was just telling Mom to hurry up and get my bedding ready today. I'll move in tomorrow."

"You're like me, impatient." Yan Bingfa smiled. "As long as you think it's good, it's worth all our time spent on it."

Tian brought out all the dishes and said, "Dad, let's talk later. Let Chunxiao and Dashan eat first. It's already this late."

"Eat, eat." Yan Bingfa brought the stool to the yard. "We don't have to work on the farm this winter. Now that the work is done, we can have a good rest for a few days."

When Zhou came out, the porridge was already ready. Dashan started eating when he saw Zhou coming. He was really hungry at this time. Chunxiao took a steamed bun and picked up some vegetables. Today's bun didn't seem so hard to swallow. She looked at the sun outside and said, "I wonder how many days of sunshine will last. Sunny days are better."

"A sunny day like this is naturally better. You're just saying useless things." Zhou drank two mouthfuls of porridge. "You really want to move out tomorrow, why don't you stay here for two more days?"

"No, I've already bought everything over there. If I don't live there any longer, and someone breaks in and picks the lock, it would be a waste of time. I have to live there anyway."

"Chunxiao is right, mother. It's better for us to move in tomorrow."

Zhou Shi clearly didn't understand, but she was just a little reluctant to leave her daughter. "Do you want me to stay with you for the first few days? What if you get scared in the middle of the night?"

"Mom, I'm not a child anymore. I said I wouldn't be afraid living there alone. Don't worry. But if Guo hasn't come back these few days, I'm afraid I'll have to eat for free at home for a few days."

"That's really unpleasant to hear." Dashan was unhappy. "Who said you were eating for free? As long as Dad and Mom are around, your big brother and I have food. You can't say you're eating for free no matter how long you eat."

"Hey, big brother, I was just joking. Knowing that you and your sister-in-law are willing to pamper me, I'm not worried at all that I won't have anything to eat."

Yan Bingfa sat in the yard, looking at them and smiling. "Your eldest brother and sister-in-law are both responsible. Although I've had a miserable life, I've raised my children well. Unlike some other families, they always quarrel and fight over trivial matters. I feel at ease."

"Who said you were a coward? How can you be a coward?" Zhou refused to agree. "Although we are a little poorer, we have enough to eat and wear. At least we are not hungry. Don't always talk about being a coward." Zhou quickly finished the remaining porridge in her bowl. "My children are by my side now. I feel very good."

Yan Bingfa smiled and shook his head. "Okay, if you think it's fine, then it's fine. As long as you don't blame me for not letting you live a good life, that's fine."

"Dad, our mother is easily satisfied." Tian was twisting straw bundles in the yard and was looking at them and smiling.

"Grandma, Grandpa didn't let you live a good life. When we grow up, we will let you live a good life, okay?"

Zhou laughed happily when she heard this. "Oh, my dear grandson is so adorable. With your words, grandma's life is sweeter than eating honey."

After dinner, Zhou returned to her room and began cutting cloth for the mattress. Once she was finished, she took her needle and thread out to the sun and began to overlock the edges of the sheets. The children, having nothing else to do, helped Tian twist the straw bundles.

Chunxiao looked at the children and waved to Shufeng, "Go next door and call Duo'er and Pan'er over. Auntie suddenly thought of a story. I'm bored right now, so I'll tell you."

"Really?" Shufeng was overjoyed when she heard it.

"Really, Auntie?" Shuwen and Xiaoqi also came over happily. They had wanted to listen to the story for a long time.

"Of course it's true, do you want to hear it?"

"Yes, yes, auntie, please wait for me. I'll go call them right away. You must wait for us." Shufeng ran away. Within two minutes, the three children came over. Duoer and Paner each brought a small stool.

As soon as the two men arrived, they placed the stool in front of Chunxiao and looked at her with joy on their faces.

"Today I want to hear how your aunt tells stories." Tian looked up and smiled at Chunxiao. "You tell the story, and we'll all listen."

"First of all, let me tell you that my aunt will be moving to the house at the end of the village tomorrow. I won't be able to tell you stories anymore, so I'm going to tell you a complete story today even though I haven't slept yet."

"It's okay, auntie. We can go to the end of the village to find you later."

"Today, I'm going to tell you a story about the King Kong Calabash Brothers. It's a bit long, so you'll have to be patient. Once upon a time, there was a grandfather who planted a gourd vine. Soon, seven gourds grew on the vine..."

Chunxiao recounted the story of the Calabash Brothers to them non-stop. Even the four adults beside her were mesmerized and listened with gusto while they worked. When Chunxiao finally finished telling the story of the King Kong Calabash Brothers after more than an hour, she was already thirsty. "Okay, Auntie has finished her story. You can all go. Auntie is going to get some water."

When Shufeng heard this, she quickly stood up and said, "Aunt, please sit down. I'll bring you some water."

"When did you develop such talent? You're almost as good as a storyteller." Zhou laughed. "I'm saying this in a good way, not a bad way. If you go to a teahouse and tell your stories, there will definitely be people who listen."

"I was wondering why they kept asking to hear stories. It turns out these stories are really interesting. They can breathe fire and spit water. The people in these stories are really like gods."
