Chapter 15 Countdown to moving into the new home

Chun Xiao smiled and said, "Second sister-in-law, these two are not the same kind. That one is not the one I want."

"You have to be so particular about chopping firewood." Zhang shook her head. She thought Chunxiao was just playing around, so she just let her be.

At noon, they ate a few coarse flour pancakes baked that morning on the mountain, then continued working. Chunxiao had already cut quite a bit, but with this kind of raw material, the more the better. She needed to experiment in the early stages to see if it would work. She also didn't know if the wood here was much different from that there. If the difference was significant, she'd have to try a few more times to see how long it would take to burn, and there would inevitably be some waste. So, naturally, the more the better. The mountain was so vast, she wasn't afraid of the little she could cut. Her brother and sister-in-law chopped firewood of any thickness, so overall, they were much faster than she was.

Chunxiao picked up her pace. Chopping wood was actually quite tiring, but she had rested well these past few days, so she worked diligently. In the afternoon, while the others were resting, she was also looking for and chopping wood. When they were about to finish their work and leave the mountain, Chunxiao couldn't remember how much she had chopped, but it was a lot anyway. Everyone else went down the mountain carrying a load of firewood, but she was left with nothing. She had originally wanted to help her sisters-in-law carry firewood, but they didn't want her to help, so she had to go ahead and take a detour to the end of the village.

When she reached the end of the village, her parents had already gone home. She glanced at the yard and saw that the vegetable garden had indeed been planted. She walked back along the slope, following the direction from the mountain, and after a few dozen meters into the grass, she finally saw the logs she had rolled down. It wasn't close to the yard, but it was much better than carrying them down the mountain. There were quite a few logs, at least twenty or thirty.

She had brought a rope with her when she arrived, and she tied three or four logs together at a time. She began dragging the logs home, but instead of dragging them into the yard, she placed them outside by the fence. She did this seven or eight times, three or four logs at a time, before she was done. She was exhausted.

The sky was beginning to darken, and suddenly someone called her aunt from the distance, "I'm here." She stood up from the log she was sitting on, saw Shuwen running towards her, and asked, "Why are you here?"

"Grandma asked me to call you over for dinner. It's getting dark now."

"Let's go." It's hard to pay attention to time when you're busy.
