Chapter 233: Take Action When It’s Time

"You won't sell any of it? I can probably store it, but the food will go bad if it's kept for too long."

"So, this year's harvest will be all rice. Don't husk it yet, store it all. I'll husk last year's rice and wheat, and then I'll take them away."

"I understand, boss. I'll work hard these next two days. I'll start picking cotton soon." Wang Shiwen's face lit up when he talked about cotton. "The cotton we planted this year is as good as last year. The harvest won't be small."

"Even though the cotton harvest is good this year, I'm afraid we'll have to hoard it and not be able to sell it." Chunxiao sighed.

"Why is this?" Wang Shiwen thought that the cotton could make money for his boss, but he was suddenly poured a bucket of cold water on his head.

"Have you forgotten that year? It's happening again now. This cotton can only be sold to corrupt officials to line their pockets. Rather than let this happen, it's better not to sell it."

"Boss, have you received bad news?"

"I'm not sure yet. I'm afraid I'll have to go to the county town to ask around. Wait until I get the news. By the way, are the orange trees in our farm bearing fruit?"

"They've grown, a lot. How about I take you to see them? We've taken good care of those trees. I think we can plant more."

"No need, Xiaohua and I can go check it out ourselves, you go ahead and do your work."

Chunxiao took Xiaohua to see the orange tree. Xiaohua was very excited to see the tree full of fruits. "Miss, look, there are so many." It was the first time she saw such a fruit tree full of fruits.

The oranges are all green, and there are quite a few on each one. It will probably take another month or so before they can be eaten.

"Miss, can you eat this?"

Chun Xiao looked at her and tried to hold back his laughter. "Try one. You'll know if it's edible after you try it."

At her signal, Xiaohua picked a relatively large green orange, peeled it, and handed it to her.

Chunxiao quickly waved her hand and said, "Just try it. If it tastes good, we'll pick more." Xiaohua then put one in her mouth, but two seconds later, her face wrinkled like an orange peel. "Oh my god, this is too sour. My teeth are going to fall out."

Chun Xiao laughed out loud as he watched from the side, "They're all green, and they look sour."

"Then Miss, you asked me to try it. I have never eaten this before." She frowned and looked at the orange in her hand but was reluctant to throw it away.

"Throw it away. It will be sweet in a month or so."

"I won't throw it away. I'll trick them into trying it when I get back." Xiaohua still felt a sour taste in her mouth. "It's really too sour."

"These oranges won't go bad if you don't pick them on the tree. They can hang there until the New Year. We have so many, we can eat them for a long time."

I inspected the cotton fields this morning and found that many of the cotton plants had already grown thick and would be ready for picking in a few days.

After visiting Zhuangzi, they went to the town.
