"It's troublesome up front, but easier later." Zhou placed the clothes in her hands on the table. "Just let them dry. I'll go into the house and make you a coat. I'll bring the lamp with me. You can see with the fire here."
Seeing that she was about to make a coat, Chunxiao quickly took out another lamp from the corner, filled it with oil, lit it, and placed it on the cabinet in her room. "It's dark at night. It won't hurt your eyes if you light another lamp."
"You've been secretly buying a lot of things." She suddenly thought of something, "Did you buy scissors?"
Chunxiao was stunned. Really not. She had forgotten about it.
Without scissors, the clothes can't be made. "Forget it, it doesn't matter if I can't make it today. My clothes will be dry in a while. I'll buy them tomorrow and make them. Mom, please think about what else I need to buy. Otherwise, it will be troublesome to find out that I don't have them when I need them."
"It's impossible to think of everything at once. I just buy things when I need them." Zhou felt a little sorry that she couldn't make clothes. "It's better to find out earlier so that I can go back to get the scissors. But now it's dark and raining, so I can't go back." She blew out an oil lamp, took another one and went back to the main room to help Chunxiao dry the clothes.
Chun Xiao remembered something while baking the oranges. She stood up, took out the last two oranges from the cupboard, and handed them to Zhou. "These oranges have been stored for a long time, and the surface is dry. Mom, try them to see if they are rotten. If they are, don't eat them."
Zhou peeled the orange and broke it in half for her. "It may look busy on the outside, but it's delicious on the inside. I finally understand why those little ones were so willing to come over to help. It turns out that Auntie has some delicious food." She smiled and said, "I used to be so envious when I saw others eating oranges. I didn't expect to get to eat one today."
Chunxiao stroked Zhou's hands, which had become dry from years of hard work. "Mom, I will try my best to give you and Dad more delicious food in the future. Just wait."
The mother and daughter spent a long time drying the clothes until all the clothes and shoes were dry. Then they boiled water to wash them and went to bed.
"If you go out tomorrow, wear my straw sandals. Even if they get wet when you come back, they'll be better in the end."
Chunxiao hadn't slept with Zhou for a long time. She hugged Zhou's arm and snuggled up to her like a spoiled child, "Mom, you are so good to me."
"Don't say those corny things. I'm content to have you in my life. This mattress is thick and comfortable to sleep on. It warms you up quickly. Go to sleep quickly. If it rains a little tomorrow, you'll have a hard time this morning."
Chunxiao has been busy all morning today, and she feels lucky that she has no symptoms of a cold. She will go to the pharmacy to buy some ginger when she gets a chance. Before going to bed, she prays to God that the rain will be lighter tomorrow.
Perhaps it was because she prayed sincerely, or perhaps it was just the way the weather had always been, but when she woke up the next morning, the rain had indeed lightened considerably, almost the same as when she left the house the previous day. Chun Xiao was delighted; she could deliver the charcoal today.
Zhou was also getting ready to get up, but Chunxiao quickly pushed her back. "Mom, I'm getting up so early because I'm going out. What are you getting up for? I don't have much work to do here. You should go back to sleep. You probably won't be back in the morning, so take advantage of this opportunity to rest here."
After saying that, he went to the stove to get salt to wash up. Just as he finished washing up, he heard a sound coming from the gate of the yard. It was Dashan and Dahe coming. It was just dawn at this time, so they came early.
"Chunxiao, open the door."
Chunxiao opened the door for them and saw that they were carrying baskets on their backs and holding straw curtains against their chests, so she quickly let them in.
Zhou finally got up and watched them moving charcoal in the utility room and wanted to go over and help.
"Mom, please stop working and don't get your hands dirty. We can do it ourselves." Dashan held her aside. "200 pounds isn't a lot. We can move it in a few moves."
They stuffed as much charcoal as they could into their backpacks. Chunxiao looked at his own backpack and found that there was especially little charcoal. "Brother, give me some more so I can carry it."
"Save your energy. You're the boss, and we'll just run errands."
Finally, several people packed their things and put on straw raincoats and hats. Chunxiao tied a straw raincoat to Yan Dashan's backpack and set off.
The ground today was even more slippery than yesterday, so they tried their best to walk towards the grass. It was already dawn, and the light on the road was not that good. It would be troublesome if they accidentally fell.
"Chunxiao, what should we say when we get there later?" Dashan had never done business and didn't know how to deal with people.
"It doesn't matter whether you say it or not. The most important thing is that the goods are delivered and the money is collected."
"That's good. I'm not good at speaking, and I'm afraid I'll say something wrong and offend the master."
"Brother, I think we should not say anything this time. Let's first see how Chunxiao does it and learn from him."
"Don't worry too much. We sell things to people and they pay us. It's a supply and demand relationship. There's no need to feel inferior.
"You've been following the scholar for a few years, and you've become very eloquent. It would be great if we had a scholar in our family too."
"Second brother, I don't like the first half of what you said, but the second half is still the same. When we have money, we will send the children to school. Education can help them understand things, which is a good thing."
The wind on the road was mixed with rain, and it felt cold when it hit my face.
"You went there alone yesterday?"
"Yeah, I went there for the money." Chun Xiao smiled, "But it was really hard."
"You are really amazing. I am impressed by you." As they talked, several people started laughing.
Daylight gradually brightened. With their two brothers by their side, they were able to travel even faster today. In less than an hour and a half, they reached the town. Chunxiao led them straight to Fuqiu Lane.
I knocked on the door of the old man's house, and the person who opened the door was still the same servant from yesterday. "You really came." He led the people directly into the yard and called the old man again.
