"I'm saying that there's no room left for your five children to sit. Where will anyone else sit later?" A woman nearby was a little dissatisfied when she saw that they had taken up a seat directly.
The children felt uncomfortable after hearing this and wanted to get up, but Zhou forced them to sit down. "It's always first come, first seated. What about my five children? The seats were reserved yesterday. It's not like I didn't pay. If you paid, you can also bring five children. Who has any objections?"
The woman snorted when she heard this and looked at Yan Shiyi who was herding cattle. "Shiyi, have they given money to their children?" She seemed to be in disbelief.
Yan Shiyi smiled and handed two coins to Zhou. "I have, all of it. Uncle Bingfa hasn't come yet, so I have to return two coins to Aunt Zhou." After handing over the money, he looked at the children and said, "You guys better sit tight. Don't be naughty on the way, otherwise you will fall down. Uncle Shiyi will not be responsible."
The little ones then sat down with smiles on their faces, looked at him and said yes repeatedly.
"Mai Niang's family is lucky in wealth. They put on new clothes and went to the market together with the whole family, riding in an ox cart. Now that Chunxiao has returned, she hasn't visited friends in the village. She seems to be hiding her fortune." An old woman nearby watched them and joked.
"Everyone in the village knows about our family's situation. They say hiding can make you rich. If hiding can make you rich, then you wouldn't be around anymore." Zhou joked with the people in the car, "The New Year is coming soon, and we have to spend some money. It doesn't matter if life is thirsty. Forget about the adults, at least the children have to have something to look forward to."
Seeing that the carriage was full, Yan Shiyi sat on the front carriage, whipped the ox cart and set off.
Chunxiao sat at the back of the car, looking at the village entrance which was getting farther and farther away. There was an ox cart waiting there. It seemed that everyone had to go early on market day, so it was rare for them to be willing to spend the two copper coins.
"Chunxiao, why aren't you talking? It's still a long time, just chat and it will pass."
"She has never been a talkative person outside, and she is not familiar with the affairs of the village now, so what can she say!" Zhou came to the rescue.
"I originally thought she was a quiet girl, but didn't she have a fight with Cui a few days ago? Oh my god, her little mouth is chattering like crazy. I think your Chunxiao is a real secretive girl." A woman looked at them and smiled with her hand covering her mouth.
"She was just pissed off. Her nephew was bullied and someone came to her house to pick on him. Who would tolerate that?"
Chunxiao saw Zhou defending her and acted like a saw-mouthed gourd.
"Erniu is a really annoying kid, and Cui is a bit protective of her own shortcomings, so it's good for him to learn a lesson."
"Chunxiao, are you really not going to live with that scholar from the Zhou family? He's a scholar, there's no reason for you to betray him and let someone else get away with it."
When talking about this, several women in the car became interested. Even the woman who had previously looked down on them came over and said, "I heard you jumped into the river again. How did you come back in the end?"
They are just a bunch of people who like to watch the fun and don't mind making trouble.
Chun Xiao deliberately sighed, "It wasn't jumping into the river at all. I went to the river to wash clothes and accidentally slipped. I don't know how the rumor got around to being called jumping into the river. I have nothing to do with the Zhou family anymore, so let's not talk about the past."
Seeing that she didn't want to talk, they were inevitably disappointed, but they still had some sense of propriety. "I don't think the Zhou family is a good family either. They didn't kick you out earlier or later after you got married, but they kicked you out after you passed the imperial examination. It's obvious that they are a heartless family."
"Who says it isn't?"
"It's not my uncle who drove my aunt away, it's my aunt who doesn't want my uncle anymore." Shufeng argued angrily.
Several women chuckled.
Mrs. Zhou patted Shufeng's head and said, "The adults are talking, why are you butting in, little girl? Just play by yourself. If you feel sleepy, just lean back and take a nap."
Chunxiao knew that in the minds of the villagers, the only possibility was that she was divorced because of her incompetence, and it was absolutely impossible that she took the initiative to divorce. However, it didn't matter. It had no effect on her. Moreover, it would be better for her to show some weakness so that others would sympathize with her. It would not be good for her to be too competitive.
So next, when people asked her questions that were irrelevant, she would answer a few questions, and frown and smile when she didn't want to say anything, playing the role of the pitiful person. Sometimes, Zhou couldn't stand it anymore and changed the subject, so the journey was not boring at all.
The town wasn't far away, and they arrived in about half an hour.
Eleven agreed with everyone to go back at a certain time and then everyone dispersed. Except for her family, everyone else in the car came with full backpacks and was in a hurry to sell things.
"These aunts are so noisy!" Shuwen scratched his ears.
Zhou knocked his head and said, "How dare you say that!" Although she also felt that it was true.
She smiled and looked at the little ones. "Hold the hands of yourselves tightly and don't get lost. If you do get lost, just walk to Yanjia Village by yourself. Do you understand?"
"Grandma, we didn't bring anything today, so we just came here to see this?" Shuduo looked at the people coming and going at the town entrance, it was really lively.
"It's still early, let's go find your father first." He looked at Chunxiao and said, "Go to Fuqiu Lane to find them? I wonder how their coal sales are doing?"
"Let's go. If they haven't sold out yet, we can just give them a discount. We'll eventually sell out." Chunxiao held one of the children's hands and followed Zhou and the others into town. When they reached Fuqiu Lane, they stood under the large tree at the entrance and waited. It was the children's first time in Fuqiu Lane, and they were curious about the houses there.
Although they were curious, they all stood in one place and did not run around.
