Chapter 39 Preparing for a Way to Make Money

Zhang smiled aside.

"What did you buy today?" Zhou saw that they had quite a few things in their backpacks.

"I bought some daily necessities, some meat, and half a bag of candy for the children."

They waited for an incense stick of time but no one showed up. "Mom, I'm going to the market to see if there's anything good to buy."

"Let your father go with you. You don't know anything and you'll be easily fooled. Why don't you wait for your eldest brother and the others to arrive and then we can take a look together."

"Let me take a look first." Chunxiao followed Yan Bangfa into the market. There were really a lot of people selling things today. She had said before that she wanted to buy fruit tree seedlings, and now she saw someone selling fruit tree seedlings not long after she came in.

"Dad, Dad." She hurriedly pulled a handful of hair and pointed at the fruit seedlings.

Yan Bingfa walked to the stall selling seedlings and looked at the fruit tree seedlings from left to right. In fact, he didn't recognize them, but he still had to make them look good. Chunxiao could tell at a glance that it was an orange tree. The leaves looked exactly like orange leaves. It would be nice to plant two orange trees in the backyard.

Her father chatted for a long time with the sapling seller, then asked the stall owner to pick out two stronger saplings. The two saplings were originally going to cost 50 wen, but he finally bought them for 40 wen. Chunxiao was delighted, and the two of them wandered around the market again. She hadn't had time to eat the peanuts she'd bought last time, but today she saw a vendor selling hairy chestnuts. Thinking of how delicious chestnuts would be when stewed with meat, she bought two pounds of chestnuts, two pounds of small salted fish, and some koji (drinking yeast) to make sweet wine. She would also buy some glutinous rice so the whole family could enjoy it during the New Year.

After buying these, they turned back to the market entrance, fearing that their family would wait for a long time. When they arrived at the market entrance, Yan Dashan had indeed arrived. Several people were talking happily, and the children were also happily wandering around.

"Did you buy the fruit seedlings you wanted?" Dashan looked at the fruit seedlings in Chunxiao's hand, took them and looked at them, "What kind of seedlings are these?"

"Orange tree seedlings. The stall owner said the fruit they produce is very sweet."

"Who doesn't praise the quality of what they sell? How could he say that his fruit is sour?" Daha laughed at her.

"I don't think the stall owner is someone who would lie. If you don't believe me, ask Dad. Is he Dad?"

Yan Bingfa smiled and said, "It's probably not bad. We'll know when we try it." He looked at the people who had gathered and asked, "Have you finished shopping? Anyone want to go shopping again?"

Tian waved her hand and said, "No more shopping, Dad. Dashan spent money without a second thought this time. It hurts me to see it. There are so many things on the street. If he buys this and that, all the money will be gone."

"It's rare for me to go out shopping with you and the kids, so of course I have to buy something. Last time, Chunxiao laughed at me for not buying you anything, and now you have so much free money. We're both women, so how can you be so different from Chunxiao? When you go shopping with her, you'll know that what I used today is nothing."

"Brother, just go ahead and buy it. Sister-in-law may say she's distressed, but she's actually happy in her heart. But could you please not take me with you? The things I bought are all necessities, so it's not considered a waste of money."

Yan Bingfa looked at Daha and his wife again.

"We're not going to shop anymore. We came here to join in the fun, but now we've bought everything we need, so let's go home."

"Then let's go back the same way?" This means they will walk while Zhou and the others will take a car.

Chunxiao looked at the few people and said, "Why don't I just walk back with Dad and the others? Mom, you take the kids back in the car." She was really afraid of the women in the village.

"It'll take another hour or so for the cart to return. Okay, you guys go ahead and we'll go wait for you there."

Shuwen and Shufeng also wanted to walk back with the adults. They were old enough and could walk for two hours without any problem. However, Zhou asked them to help take care of their younger siblings, so they had to stay and take the car.

The family left in two groups.

Today was a beautiful day, and it was market day, so there were many people on the street. Two couples were chatting as they walked, and Chunxiao followed her father on the side. Naturally, her father carried the backpack for her.

"If it weren't so cold, it would be quite pleasant to go out."

"I feel like Chunxiao's speech is a bit flowery now, not like the girls from Yanjia Village anymore."

"Brother, I'm not being literary at all. I'm just expressing my feelings." The wind blew in my face, making my face and neck cold. I should have bought myself a fur collar earlier. "I wish the weather could stay this nice forever. I hope it doesn't rain. It's so annoying."

Yan Bingfa checked the weather and said, "It's already mid-November. Chinese New Year is just over a month away. Usually it would snow at this time of year."

"It doesn't matter if it rains or snows. We have the confidence to have a good New Year this year. At worst, we can just stay at home and eat and sleep all day. We'll be fine when the weather warms up in February."

This is how most farmers spend their winters. Winter is the most leisurely time of the year, with less work and everything else being good except the cold and the lack of hope for earning money. Now that they have earned money, the only thing left in this winter is comfort.

Chunxiao doesn't like winter. She doesn't want to do anything when the weather gets cold.

"Chunxiao, we have a deal. Tomorrow we will go up the mountain to chop firewood sticks. I will try to chop thicker sticks. You still have to keep burning the charcoal. I know you want to try, so go ahead and try. You don't have to worry about anything else. Big brother and I will sell it. We can earn a few dozen coins. In the past, working in town would only make 20 coins a day. There's no reason not to make money when you can."

"From now on, I will go with you when you go to sell charcoal. There is nothing to do staying at home." Yan Bingfa also spoke.

"Okay, since you're not afraid of hard work, just burn it. Second brother is right. We can earn as much as we can. We can't waste this winter's money."
