"What's wrong with you? Why are you suddenly pale?" Zhou noticed her abnormality and asked, "Are you tired from walking? Do you want to take a break?"
"Mom," Chunxiao looked at her, "I came back to embarrass you."
"You scared me to death. I thought you were unwell and you weren't feeling well in the first place. Chunxiao, if someone else wants to talk about you, we can't stop them. But your father and I are not afraid of what others say, so don't worry."
"Girl is just too worried. We live our lives and they say what they want. Whatever they say, we won't lose two ounces of meat. What's the big deal?"
"Chunxiao, don't you know our parents' temper? If they were afraid of what others would say, they wouldn't have taken you back. Don't worry, we'd better hurry up. We'll be there soon. Your sister-in-law and the others are waiting for us to eat."
Chunxiao was deeply moved when she looked at her family members. At the critical moment, they stood by her and supported her unconditionally. This was enough.
After a while of walking, they finally arrived at Yanjia Village when the sun was almost overhead. At this moment, smoke was curling up from the chimneys, and every household was preparing lunch.
"Let's go, hurry up. There are few people outside now, so we don't have to bother chatting with them." Zhou urged them. As they walked through the village, they met a few women from the village.
"Oh, Chunxiao is back. I guess you won't leave now that you're back." A woman looked at their bags.
"He's definitely not leaving. He's packed up and brought the quilt back." Another woman quickly chimed in, "Mrs. Zhou, what's going on with Chunxiao? Tell us."
Zhou laughed dryly, "Sister Tian, we're still carrying things, so I won't go into details. We're waiting for dinner at home. Let's talk another day."
"Okay, you guys go ahead and do your work." Although the two women were curious, they didn't make a fuss. They just said goodbye to them and left.
Several people rushed home. When they arrived outside the yard, Shuwen and Shufeng were chopping pig grass in the yard, and Yan Qi was helping Tian wash vegetables. They saw someone coming to the door.
"Mom, mom, please come out quickly, grandpa, grandma, dad, and aunt are back."
"Hurry up and open the yard door." Shuwen instructed Yan Qi to open the door.
Tian came out of the kitchen and saw people entering the yard, "Dad, Mom, little sister, you are back. I was cooking."
"Sister-in-law." Chunxiao greeted everyone she met.
"Mom, I'll put my little sister's quilt in Duo'er's room first. We'll bring the dishes over later and we can have lunch together at noon." Yan Dahe carried the quilt to the west yard.
"Chunxiao, give me your bag. I'll keep it for you first."
Chunxiao handed the bundle to Zhou and followed Tian into the kitchen. "Sister-in-law, let me help you."
"No, no, I'm almost ready. We've come such a long way, you can rest with your parents for a while."
"Then I'll help you add firewood. I can take a rest while adding firewood."
Tian knew her sister-in-law was diligent and could not stop her. "Okay, then you can sit at the stove and add fuel to the fire for me. I can save some energy and not have to run back and forth."
As soon as Yan Dashan came back, he took a bucket and went to the river to fetch water. Yan Qi washed the vegetables and handed them to his mother. He walked to Chunxiao and asked, "Aunt, why didn't your uncle come back with you this time?"
Chunxiao was about to pinch his nose when she saw Tian come over and send him out. "Go and feed the chickens the rotten vegetable leaves and two handfuls of corn you just picked. Go quickly and don't bother your aunt here. Let her rest for a while."
Although Yan Qi didn't understand what he had done to annoy his aunt, since his mother asked him to feed the chickens, he obediently went to feed the chickens.
"Children are ignorant." Tian smiled at her and started cooking on the stove. "Chunxiao, are you and your brother-in-law really divorced?" She just saw the second child moving the quilt. If they were not divorced, he would not have taken the quilt back.
"Well, we're divorced. I'll have to ask my sister-in-law to take care of me in the future."
"We're all family, so why bother taking care of us? Yesterday, Mom and Dad told us that you can just live here peacefully. If you need any help, just tell your sister-in-law directly."
"Thank you, sister-in-law." Chunxiao added fire to the stove and sat beside it, feeling warm in her heart.
"Don't be polite, as a family, don't keep saying thank you. My husband will be unhappy if he hears it."
After a while, Yan Qi came in again. "Mom, the chickens are eating." He walked to Chunxiao's side and said, "Aunt, you still haven't told me why your uncle didn't come back with you."
Chunxiao scratched his nose and said, "Your uncle is disobedient, so I don't want him anymore. I will stay here and won't go back. Are you happy that I'm back?"
Yan Qi opened his eyes wide, as if frightened. At the age of eight, he still couldn't understand why his aunt said no to him. "Aunt, can you just throw my uncle away if he doesn't obey?"
"If it doesn't listen, just throw it away. Why keep it and make yourself angry?" Chunxiao teased him intentionally, thinking that the expression of this little nephew was really interesting.
Yan Qi opened his mouth and looked at his mother with a nervous expression, "Mom, I will definitely listen to you in the future. Don't abandon me like my aunt did." After saying that, he ran out of the kitchen.
Tian looked at her son running out, feeling a bit amused and helpless. She shook her head and said, "I'm afraid your words will scare him for a long time. Well, it will give me some peace of mind."
"Sister-in-law, from now on, if I have any chores at home, just let me do them. They are still young and can't do the work as well as I can."
Tian smiled and said, "Okay, I won't treat you as an outsider either. I'll call you when there's work to do. Don't be too tired."
Soon, Yan Dashan came back with water, and Zhou followed him into the kitchen. "I was wondering why I didn't see you. It seems you're hiding here chatting with your sister-in-law. Go and rest. I'll light the fire."
