The woman laughed when she heard this. "Sister, if you want bean dregs, I'll give them to you for 2 cents a pound. How about that?"
"Okay, then, big sister, do you come every day or when? Let's set a date and I'll have my brother come to pick it up."
"I set up a stall here every day. We're the only ones selling tofu in this market. Whenever you need it, I'll ask my boss to deliver it to you."
"Then let's do it tomorrow. Big sister, just help me lose about 60 kilograms."
"Okay. I'll bring it to you tomorrow."
After the two of them agreed, Chunxiao went to the market again. She bought 10 kilograms of oranges, 10 kilograms of fried peanuts, and finally returned to buy 10 blocks of tofu, finally returning with a full load. Luckily, she had brought 5 taels of silver with her today. Now, she only had a little over 1 qian of silver left. If Zhou came along, who knew what she would say.
I walked all the way home, but before I even reached the side gate and the fence, several nephews and nieces came running down the hill, "Auntie, you're back?"
"Auntie, is the backpack heavy? Let me help you carry it."
"Auntie, what did you buy today?"
The slope at the entrance of the fence was actually quite a distance from home. Unexpectedly, the little ones had been waiting for her there. "Auntie, there is tofu in this basket. You have to be careful when carrying it. Don't let it get damaged." She carefully climbed the slope with the children.
We walked back talking and laughing all the way.
As expected, everyone in the family had stopped working today and was sitting in the yard basking in the sun. They were all happy to see her, "Oh, the people who bought New Year's goods are back."
Dashan hurriedly stood up, took off her backpack and brought it to the main room. "What did you buy? It's quite heavy."
"Be careful, be careful," Chun Xiao peeled off the leaves on top, "This is tofu, be careful not to break it."
Everyone gathered around to watch.
"You are moving the tofu shop and buying these tofus." Tian and his family were already helping to move the things out.
"Mom, this tofu is delicious. Let's eat two pieces today. I want to save the other six pieces for stewing."
"What is braised? You are good at eating."
"You'll know when I make it." Then she took out oranges and peanuts, then candied haws snacks, and finally soy sauce and seasonings and a cloth teapot.
"Oh my God, you went shopping to buy these foods. No wonder you turned around and ran away this morning. Are you afraid that I will say something about you? How much silver did you spend in total?" Zhou was a little sad. Her daughter was too wasteful.
The children were already going crazy with joy, "Auntie, are these candied haws for us?" Shuduo stared at the candied haws, there were so many of them.
Chunxiao looked at them and said, "Each of you take one."
Several children happily took the candied haws. Chunxiao spread out the cakes and peanuts on the table and said, "Everyone, feel free to eat as much as you want today. These are all for us to eat."
"Little sister, you bought too much. No wonder mother is distressed." Tian smiled and took a piece of crispy cake and handed it to Zhou. "Mother, try it. These should be delicious."
Zhou took the cake and took a bite. "Of course it tastes good if you pay for it."
Chunxiao told her brothers and sisters-in-law to help themselves and not to be polite. She put the cloth and seasonings in the cupboard and placed the tea set on the long table in the bedroom. Seeing everyone gathered around the table to eat, she asked, "Mom, what are we going to cook for Little New Year today?"
"Isn't that what you meant by stewed meat? Stewed meat with radish."
"What else?"
"Let's stir-fry some cabbage. Your sister-in-law came over this morning and picked some leeks. Let's stir-fry some eggs with them. You bought tofu, so let's add some stir-fried tofu. That's enough. You'll have a whole pot of meat."
"Mom, let's change it. When the stewed meat is almost done, put a piece of tofu and some cabbage in it. There are two pheasants drying in the backyard. Chop one up and braise it with some chestnuts and radishes. Fry the tofu in oil before stir-frying it. In addition to the scrambled eggs with leeks, steam an egg with the meat." Chunxiao felt her mouth watering as she spoke.
Zhou was eating oranges at the moment. When she heard what Chunxiao said, she immediately got angry and said, "You are talking about dishes that are weird. Why don't you cook them yourself? I will help you light the fire."
"I'll do it." It was still early, so cooking would take a while. There were only a few dishes anyway. "Last time I asked you to ask the villagers about the vegetable harvest. Did you ask?"
Zhou looked around guiltily and said, "I forgot about it because I was busy."
Chunxiao did not ask any further questions, but told her brother about buying soybean dregs at the market today. She asked her brother to bring the things back to the market tomorrow and gave her one coin and 20 copper coins.
Chunxiao prepared lunch. She made a big pot of pork head and a big pot of roast chicken, mainly radish and chestnuts. She also made a bowl of steamed meat and egg soup, a big bowl of scrambled eggs with leeks, and a big bowl of tofu. For the sake of auspicious numbers, Chunxiao made a pork rib soup with dried radish and dried mushrooms and pickled pork ribs.
The table was full and everyone was eating happily.
"I didn't expect that Chunxiao has such cooking skills, Mom. It tastes better than yours." Dahai praised the roast chicken while chewing on it.
"It's really delicious." Yan Bingfa rarely praised.
"How could it not be delicious? Look at how much meat this is and how much oil was used when cooking it. If she keeps eating it like this, she'll end up eating it sooner or later."
"Mom, mom, I want steamed eggs. I want tofu."
"I want one too."
"Dad, I want chicken and chestnuts."
The children had no place to sit at the table, so they stood by and asked the adults to help them pick up the dishes. They thought the food cooked by their aunt was so delicious. "Aunt, your cooking is so delicious. Why didn't you cook before? I always let grandma cook."
"Didn't Dad just say that Auntie is a true person who doesn't show his true colors?"
