The lunch dishes were all gone in a flash, and the little ones were extremely satisfied. In their hearts, Auntie's place was a wonderful place where they could eat all kinds of delicious food, mainly because Auntie could cook it herself and was willing to buy it.
After dinner, they refused to go back. Since the weather was good, Yan Bingfa let them stay and play in the fields. He took Dashan and the others to cultivate the remaining two acres of land.
In the evening, when they were about to go back, Yan Laowu came and brought Chunxiao's bathtub and 5 buckets of water. Chunxiao was very happy to see the big bathtub, but no matter how happy she was, she had a problem about where to put it. The bathtub was a bit heavy, and it was not convenient to put it in the kitchen. In the end, it was put in Chunxiao's bedroom. However, this made the bedroom space much smaller. The house was too small. When she earned money next year, she would build a good house.
Yan Bingfa invited Yan Laowu to the main hall. Although there were still carts and boxes to be built, the New Year was approaching and it was time to settle the previous money. Yan Laowu did not hesitate. He calculated that since he had provided all the materials, the price would be higher than if he only paid for the labor. In the end, he asked for one tael and eight qian of silver. Yan Bingfa paid the money very happily.
Yan Laowu was very happy to get the money. Yan Bingfa and his friends were about to go back, so the two of them pushed the cart and left, talking and laughing. Yan Qi wanted to stay with her aunt, but was pulled back by her mother.
Zhou knew that Chunxiao would collect charcoal late today, and was afraid that she would stay up all night like this, so she let her go to bed after dinner when it was dark. She would look at the time and call her when it was time to collect charcoal, and then she would go to bed.
Chunxiao thought this was feasible and went to sleep obediently.
Zhou called her around 10 or 11 o'clock in the evening. She woke up dazed and saw her mother sewing shoe soles under the light.
"The stove is already lit and placed in the backyard. If you are hungry in the middle of the night, you can cook something for yourself." Seeing that she got up, Zhou put down her shoes and prepared to go to bed.
"There are eggs at home. If you're hungry, I can throw them in the stove and roast a few. At worst, I can roast some meat over the fire. You're still worried that I'll be hungry. Go to sleep and don't worry about me."
"Don't worry, you're more knowledgeable about food than anyone else."
Chunxiao got up and went to the backyard to collect charcoal. Since she had slept before, she felt much better than usual. After collecting the charcoal in the middle of the night, she hurried back to sleep. When Shuwen and the others came in the morning, she got up when she heard the noise.
Zhou was still wondering why she got up so early, but when she learned that she got up early so as not to stay up late at night, she stopped talking.
Today, everyone had a lot of gear. Yan Dashan and Yan Dahe each carried a basket of charcoal. Tian and Shuwen used new baskets to carry meat and eggs, covered with a clean curtain. Zhang's basket contained a stove, a pot, a jar of water, some leftover marinade, and a scale.
The five of them set off in this mighty manner.
As soon as she finished her charcoal work in the morning, she washed the hair of her four children in the yard.
"You've been washing your hair extra frequently since you came back. Before, it was no big deal if you didn't wash it for ten days or so, but now it starts to itch after a few days. It seems washing your hair too frequently isn't a good thing."
"Mom, what you said is not right. Washing frequently will make you feel more comfortable, right?" She looked at the children again and said, "Tell me, do you feel comfortable when your aunt washes your hair?"
"Comfortable." Duoer smiled at her with her hair loose.
"Auntie, I like you washing my hair." Shufeng soaked her hair in water. "The more you wash, the less smelly your hair will be."
"You are such a grown-up and still need your aunt to wash your hair. It's not right. You will be twelve years old after the new year. You can get married in two years."
"Grandma, please don't mention it. I don't like to hear it."
"I think you are itching to imitate your aunt's speech. I spoiled her and I will spoil you too."
"Mom, why don't you wait until they finish washing and then I'll wash one for you." Chunxiao picked up the cloth towel beside her and started to wipe Shufeng's hair.
"I don't want you to wash it, I can wash it myself." After saying that, he went into the kitchen to prepare cooking.
Chunxiao finished washing the children and was about to wash herself when she suddenly heard someone calling their mother outside. She looked towards the door curiously and found that it was Tian and the other two who had returned. It was not even dinner time yet, but they came back so early.
"Mom, my sister-in-law and the others are back." Chunxiao put the basin aside and shouted towards the kitchen.
Zhou stood at the door and wiped her hands. "Where are you? Why are you here so early? If you can't sell it, you have to wait a little longer. Have your brother and the others come back?"
"No, I just saw my sister-in-law and Shuwen over there." She walked out of the yard to pick them up.
We bumped into each other halfway, and she said, "Sister-in-law, give me the backpack. It's quite heavy."
Tian smiled brightly, "You carry your second sister-in-law's thing, hers is heavy."
Yan Bangfa noticed them coming back and also came back to the yard from the other end. Several children, their hair loose, surrounded Shuwen and asked about what happened in town today. Shuwen was very excited at this time, and spoke vividly to his younger siblings. When he saw Zhou, he said, "Grandma, we made money today."
Zhou was just about to ask them why they came back so early today, but when she heard Shuwen say that he had made money, she instinctively thought that something good was going to happen, so she didn't even cook, and took Tian and Zhang to the main hall, and sent the children out to play. Shuwen had gone to town today, and was also waiting in the main hall for the adults to question him.
"What's going on?" Zhou asked as soon as everyone sat down.
"Let them drink some water first. They must be tiring to carry such a heavy thing back from such a long distance." Yan Bingfa picked up the teapot and poured water for the two of them.
The two sisters-in-law were a little embarrassed. They took the water and drank a sip with a smile, "Dad, don't be tired. We can take turns carrying you when we get back."
