Chapter 63 Days Like Flowing Water

Perhaps thanks to her good base fertilizer, the cotton seedlings have been growing very well these past few days, densely covering four acres of land. In about ten days, they can be thinned out and transplanted. After transplanting, if they survive, they can be watered and left alone for a month or so, except for daily weeding.

Tian and Zhang now take turns to braise the meat, each person doing it for one day, starting at dawn. This way, the work can be completed by the evening, so there is no need to stay up late here.

Yan Bingfa and Dashan are responsible for purchasing, while Dahe is responsible for daily delivery. Zhou has been working in the vegetable garden these two days. She collected some bitter melon, loofah, eggplant, and wood ear vegetable seeds from the villagers who bought vegetables and planted them in the vegetable garden in front.

Apart from Yan Qi and the other three children who stayed in the village to look after the house, the other three were responsible for herding cattle, collecting grass for pigs and feeding chickens. In short, no one was idle.

When Yan Bang found that the cotton grew well after Chunxiao applied base fertilizer, he had an idea. He also wanted to dig a big hole on the edge of the field to ferment the fertilizer. He wanted to do the same as Chunxiao before planting. Chunxiao naturally agreed.

So, taking advantage of his free afternoon, he took his two sons to the fields. The next afternoon, they collected manure in the village, but Chunxiao had already used up most of her bean dregs. So, after Yan Dahe finished delivering the goods the next day, he drove his ox cart to the market and asked for 100 kilograms of bean dregs from a tofu vendor. On his return, he brought Chunxiao a few kilograms of tofu and two stalks of sugarcane.

Chunxiao remembered that she seemed to have eaten sugarcane once when she was a child, but she had no impression of it since then. She peeled the sugarcane and cut it into small pieces, and the whole family sat in the yard, talking and laughing while eating the sugarcane.

When Dongsheng arrived, he saw the harmonious atmosphere among the family.

"Dongsheng, come here, have some sugarcane. Your sister Chunxiao just peeled it. It's very sweet."

"No, no," he waved his hand quickly.

Yan Dahe stuffed a cigarette into his hand without saying anything, "Don't be polite! Have you caught prey again?"

"No, the animals in the mountains have become smarter now, and it's not so easy to catch them. I was thinking about going to town to find a job." He took off his backpack, "My dad said your family is collecting eggs. There are more than 40 eggs at home, and he asked me to bring them to my uncle and aunt, free of charge."

"How can we not ask for money? We don't want money. It doesn't matter who we take it from. Just send it to us when you have eggs in the future." Zhou took out 44 copper coins and gave them to him. "Take it. If your father says anything, just say it was me. How is your mother now?" Zhou asked carefully.

"Thanks to Uncle Bingfa from the previous meeting for lending me money, the medicine I bought this time is good. I feel much better after taking it." He showed a bright smile on his face.

Zhou glanced at Yan Bingfa, who pretended to look away casually.

"I'm much better, that's great. So I need to take better, more expensive medicine to be effective. The old medicine is too ineffective and taking too much will only make it worse."

"My father and I felt the same way, so I thought I couldn't always rely on my future in the mountains. It's too uncertain. I wanted to find a long-term job in town so I could come back regularly."

"You're not a real hunter, so hunting isn't a long-term solution. Going around town more often will help you find something to do."

"The land at home will be planted in ten days or so. After I help my father plant the land, I will look for work." He held the sugarcane in one hand and the money in the other. "Then, Auntie, I will go back first."

Zhou sent him out of the yard.
