"Then Dad, where do we start now?" Yan Dashan was holding a machete, eager to try.
"We have three machetes and two hoes. Dahe, Dahe's wife, one of you will mow the grass and the other will till the ground. Go to the left side of the house. Dashan and I will take care of the right side. We'll take down the broken fence. Old woman, you and Chunxiao will clean up the inside and outside of the yard."
Everyone received a task and started working. Zhou took a machete to weed the yard. Chunxiao had no tools, so she went around the house to sort out the rubble. She picked them up and put them in a basket and piled them in the corner of the house. Everyone was so engrossed in their work that they didn't even realize it was time for dinner. It was not until Shuwen and Shufeng came to call them that they realized it was time to go home for dinner.
The two children finally found them after wading through the weeds. "Grandpa, Mom asked us to call you home for dinner. It's time for lunch."
"Okay, let's go back now." Yan Bingfa told everyone to call it a day. "How did you find this place?"
"Grandpa, we have been to this place before. Xiaojun brought us here to catch crickets before, but unfortunately we didn't catch any. Mom said you were here, so we came here. Grandpa, what are you doing cleaning up this place?" Shuwen was curious.
"This will be your aunt's territory from now on. We'll clean it up for your aunt to live in in the future."
"When you go out to play, remember to tell the children in the village that this place has an owner and ask them not to come here and hang around, okay?" Dashan quickly warned his son.
"Dad, why does Auntie live here? There's no one here. Isn't Auntie living with us? And we can help you weed. We'll help you weed in the afternoon!"
"We don't have that many machetes for you to use. You can help us by helping your mother and your second aunt with their work. Your aunt likes living here. It's comfortable here. You kids don't need to worry about her."
Shufeng walked up to Chunxiao and asked, "Aunt, are you really going to live here alone in the future? Aren't you afraid of the darkness at night?"
Chunxiao pinched her face and said, "Don't be afraid, Auntie. Once we fix this place up, it won't be so shabby anymore. Auntie will be the big landlord here."
Shufeng chuckled when she heard this, "Aunt, you can't be a landlord, you can only be a landlord's wife."
Everyone was amused when they heard this. "Your aunt is going to be a poor landlord. When the time comes, you must remember to send her more vegetables."
