Chapter 80 Buying the Manor

Zhou moved into Daha's house. Zhang was now pregnant and had to be careful in everything she did.

Chunxiao longed for her brothers to return home soon, but the days passed without them returning. Soon it was the first day of November, and they should have returned by then. Zhou had nothing else to do these past two days, so she would go to the village entrance to check on them, and occasionally she would stand there chatting with the other women.

Now everyone knew that Wangzu and Dongsheng were their family's long-term workers, and they also found out that their monthly salary was 700 coins. Many people became interested, especially the women. Women were easiest to communicate with each other, so people would quickly gather wherever her mother was.

"Mrs. Zhou, it's getting late now. I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow."

"Yes, Mai Niang, I don't think I'll be back today. Your family is really amazing. You don't buy the cotton when people come to your house to buy it, but you have to take it outside to sell it yourself. Isn't the price outside so good? The last time I saw your truck going out, that guy must have carried over a thousand pounds. The harvest is so good that our boss said we should plant cotton in the spring."

"It's not just your family. Many families in the village have said they're going to plant cotton in the spring. I guess we'll have to go to Mrs. Zhou's house to ask about the seeds."

"Forget about the seeds." Zhou sighed, "We're still short of seeds at home. We have to find a way to go out and look for them."

The women glanced at each other, thinking it was just an excuse she didn't want to give. "How could that be? The harvest was so good, so there must be more seeds than before. How could there still be a shortage? Mrs. Zhou, are you afraid that the villagers will follow suit?"

"There's nothing to be afraid of. Whoever has the ability can plant it. How can I not be happy if everyone has a good harvest? You don't know how much trouble it is to take care of a cotton field. Forget it, you will understand when you plant it yourself. Dashan and Dahe bought land in Zhoujia Village to plant cotton. Naturally, this land will not be enough to produce so many seeds."

Everyone heard that this was new news.

"Mai Niang, you bought land in Zhoujia Village. When did it happen? You've been keeping it a secret. There's no news at all. Tell me how much you bought."

"I bought them not long ago, and I bought quite a few." Yan Bingfa gave her a task, asking her to find out what the villagers think when she was with the women, to see if anyone was willing to go to other villages to work, so that she would have a plan when she found people in the spring.

"Your family won't have enough manpower to handle the large amount of land you bought. Even Chunxiao's place is probably too busy to handle it."

"Who says it's not true? It's just that we're short of manpower. We'll figure out a solution after they all come back."

"Are you still hiring people in your family? Do you need to hire a long-term worker?" Several women quickly gathered around, looking at her with expectant eyes.

Zhou quickly glanced at them. "I think we'll have to recruit them, but the exact rules can only be determined after Dashan and Dahe return." She glanced at the road in the distance. "I can't expect anyone to come today. I'm going back now."

After Zhou left, several women also hurried back home.

On November 3rd, Yan Dashan and the others had not returned yet. There were only two days left, and she had to collect the remaining silver. She had 1,219 taels of silver in her hand, and she was still short of 131 taels. There were still 70 taels of silver in her hands from the public account. She could discuss with her sisters-in-law to borrow it first, and then ask each of them to borrow 30 taels to make up the amount. After making up her mind, she went to find Tian and Zhang.

Tian and Zhang then learned that their younger sister had bought a large farm elsewhere. Worried that she didn't have enough money, they both borrowed the 50 taels they had shared. The next day, Chunxiao took the remaining money and went to Lujia Village.

"Now that the money has been collected, our deal is done. We'll all leave by the 12th. Miss Yan, come and count the details on the 12th. If there are no problems, we'll settle the deal and have nothing to do with each other anymore."

"Steward, when it's convenient for you, let's go to the town government office and re-register the ownership of the manor. That way I can feel at ease."

"It's not easy for you to come all this way. I think it's better to do it today than to wait for another day. I'll have someone prepare a car and we'll go to town."

Chun Xiao's face was full of smiles. "The one in charge is also a smart guy. I like dealing with smart people."

The steward also smiled, "I also have a daughter your age, and I also want to go back and reunite with my family sooner. Let's discuss and work it out so that we can get things done sooner and live in peace sooner." He looked at Chunxiao hesitantly, "It's a bit abrupt to ask this question. I see that Miss Yan is not young anymore, she must be 20, but she dresses like a girl. You have such ability and your family is rich, why didn't your family choose a good marriage for you? Could it be that you are so focused on making money that you have delayed your marriage? A woman should find a good husband to rely on for the rest of her life."

"Boss, I was married before, but now I'm divorced." Chunxiao said calmly.

"Why?" The manager was puzzled. He saw that this girl was a capable person, so why would she get divorced?

Chun Xiao smiled and said, "My family was poor before. My husband passed the imperial examination and wanted to marry someone else. He wanted to demote me to a concubine. I couldn't stand the humiliation and divorced him."

The steward was a little angry when he heard this, but then he looked at her more gently, "You have met the wrong person. Your husband is unlucky."

The two followed the ox cart to the town government office. Chunxiao paid the transfer money and household registration book. The yamen officer told her that the farm was large and the land deed had to be registered in the county town and stamped with the county government seal. It would take about 6 days to get the land deed. She took the official pass, said goodbye to the manager, and went home.

When she got home, Yan Bingfa and the others were waiting for her. "Did you really buy Zhuangzi?"

"I bought it! The land deed needs to be registered with the county government and it will take several days to be issued. We are going to go there on the 12th to pick up some things."
