Yan Dahe was overjoyed, "Chunxiao, are you serious?"
"Second brother, don't look so happy." Chun Xiao looked around nervously. Everyone else looked miserable, but he was the only one smiling. This was too strange. "Second brother, let's not stay here. Let's go to the teahouse. We won't be doing business until noon."
The two drove the ox cart to a small teahouse and drank tea at the tea stall outside. The tea stall was particularly deserted today, with only a few people on the street, and those who were together were all discussing the conscription issue.
Although there was no one around, Dahai didn't dare ask too much. Judging from Chunxiao's expression, this matter probably shouldn't be told to outsiders, so the two of them sat together quietly drinking tea, and the cow beside them mooed from time to time.
The owner of the tea stall was an old man. Although he thought they were weird, today was weird, so he didn't pay any attention to them. At noon, Chunxiao was afraid that riding in a ox cart would be too conspicuous, so she asked Yan Dahe to continue waiting here, and she went to Nanshan Lane by herself.
Following the address Huang Minghe told her, she quickly found the house with a jujube tree at the door. She sat at the wall at the corner opposite the house. Sure enough, a middle-aged man in his thirties or forties came in after noon. She thought that officials should have a plump appearance, but this man was not tall and of medium build. Apart from his clothing preference, he was not much different from others. He felt more like a wealthy man.
When Chunxiao saw him about to come in, she hurried over and startled the person knocking on the door.
"Are you Lord Qin Zhubu?"
The man gave her a wary look and asked, "Who are you?"
The door opened quickly, and a young woman in gorgeous clothes stood inside. She was about to greet someone when she suddenly saw two people at the door. She looked at the middle-aged man in surprise, "Master, who is this?"
"Sir, I was introduced here by Mr. Huang from Juxian Restaurant. I still have his letter here." She took the letter out of her pocket and handed it over with both hands.
When the man heard that it was Huang Minghe who introduced him, he took the letter and said, "Come in."
Chunxiao followed him into the house, and the door was quickly closed by the woman.
Seeing that the two men seemed to have something to talk about, the woman automatically avoided them. The only ones left in the yard were the middle-aged man sitting at the stone table and Chunxiao standing beside them.
The courtyard was very uniquely decorated, but unfortunately Chunxiao's mind was now on the middle-aged man who was reading the letter, and she had no time to appreciate it.
"This Huang Minghe is going to cause me trouble." He put down the letter and looked at Chun Xiao. "What do you want?"
"Sir, I would like to ask you to help change the household registration and separate the households." Chun Xiao said bravely. This was considered as bribing the officials. If this chief clerk turned against her, she would be thrown into jail.
"Since you've come to me, I'll be frank. It's true that household registration can be changed, but there are a lot of people who need to be dealt with. With the recent announcement from above, the inspection is strict, so we're taking a huge risk. It costs 200 taels of silver per household. If you want to change it, bring your household registration book here immediately. If it changes after a long time, I can't do anything about it."
Upon hearing this, Chun Xiao knelt down and kowtowed. "Thank you, sir. Please wait for me. I will go back and get my household registration. I will also prepare the money."
"I have to go to work later. Just come and give the things to Liu Niang. Remember not to come to the government office to look for me."
"I know, I know." Chun Xiao said goodbye hurriedly. When she came out, she was overjoyed. It was all planned. She ran all the way and was out of breath when she climbed to the tea stall. Yan Dahe was waiting anxiously and handed her a cup of tea. "How is it? How is it?"
Chun Xiao breathed a sigh of relief and drank another cup of tea. "Second brother, go back quickly and get the household registration book of eldest brother's family, and gather 200 taels of silver. We'll discuss the silver matter when we get back. Go quickly, and remember not to tell anyone else. We'll discuss it when we're done and back."
This was done, and Daha was overjoyed. "Wait for me, I'll be back soon." After saying that, he got on the ox cart and drove away.
So Chunxiao took over and waited here.
The tea stall owner didn't ask any questions and didn't chase people away. There weren't many people around today anyway, so just sit down if you want.
After sitting for almost an hour, Dahe came back in the ox cart. As expected, he was very fast. After getting off the cart, he handed her a cloth bundle and said, "The silver was collected from both families. How about I take you there? This bundle is a bit heavy."
Chunxiao thought about it, then got on the ox cart. When she was almost at the entrance of the alley, she got off and asked him to wait there. She carried her bag and went to the chief clerk's house.
After knocking on the door and entering, she found that the chief clerk was still there. She was delighted and placed the things on the stone table. "Sir, this is the household registration of my eldest brother's family. Please help me separate Yan Bingfa, Zhou Mainiang and Yan Dashan."
Qin Zhubu picked up the household registration book, looked at it, and then pointed at the silver in the bundle and nodded. "If you can wait, come to get the news at the beginning of the evening hour. If you receive a new household registration, then it's done. If you can't wait, come to get it tomorrow. If there is still no news by tomorrow, then the silver will not be refunded."
Such an important matter must wait even if it can't. "I know, I know. I will come at the hour of You. I'll trouble the lady of this house to answer the door for me. And thank you for your hard work, Lord Qin."
The young woman smiled brightly when she heard the word "Madam". "No trouble, no trouble, just come."
Chunxiao handed over the things and took Yan Dahe to the tea stall. "Second brother, do you want to go back? I'll just wait."
"I'll wait with you. Now when we go back and they ask me, I don't know anything. It makes me sad to see them like that. Today, many villagers came to our house to borrow money, but they were all sent away by Dad and Big Brother. Who knows what they'll say about us behind our backs."
