Fortunately, the hemp rope was strong, and after grinding it for an hour or so, she finally managed to break it. Untying it, her hands burned with pain and were covered in cuts. She groped in the dark and began to untie the ropes around her feet. It was pitch black outside. After untying the ropes, she groped carefully to the door, fearing she would make a noise and alert others. There was no sound outside, so there must be no one guarding it.
Those people probably saw that her hands and feet were tied, and thought that there was no way she could break free, so they went to sleep without worry. The door was locked from the outside and could not be opened, so she touched the window again. Fortunately, the window could be opened.
She carefully pushed open the window and climbed out, trying not to make any noise because she was afraid that there was someone in the yard.
It was winter now, cold outside, and no one was in the yard. The yard was actually surrounded by an earthen wall, more than one meter high. She looked around for something, and fortunately there was a pile of firewood in the yard. She moved two bundles, carefully carried the firewood to the wall, then stepped on it and flipped over. She almost sprained her ankle when she got down the wall, but fortunately it was just a close call.
She ran all the way out of the yard, but the road was uneven and she fell twice. Without caring about anything else, she got up and continued running. Now was the time to escape. If she was discovered and caught, her life would be in danger.
As she was running and feeling exhausted, a ray of light suddenly appeared in front of her, followed by the sound of horse hooves coming closer and closer. She was startled and wanted to hide to the side of the road, but she was so exhausted that she fell down after running two steps.
"Who!" The horse had already run up to him, and the man on the horse stopped with a torch in his hand.
Chunxiao looked over in the light from the horse, and just as she felt a surge of surprise in her heart, she fainted the next second.
She felt a cold pain on her wrist and slowly opened her eyes. There was a pounding sound in the yard. It was already daytime. Where was this? She was startled, and thinking of the last scene before she fainted, she smiled slightly. She must have been saved.
She threw off the quilt and got out of bed, then opened the door. The apprentice who was pounding herbs in the yard saw her and walked over. "Miss, you're awake. Your hand has been bandaged and treated with medicine. It's not serious and will be healed in a few days."
She had been here before, judging by the furnishings in the yard. This was the town's medical clinic. "Young man, where is the person who brought me here?"
"Girl, you were brought here in the middle of the night. The person who brought you here told us to bandage you and take good care of you. He gave us some money and then left in a hurry."
Chunxiao wanted to leave. Even if they didn't know what was happening at the end of the village in the middle of the night, the farmhands would go to work in the morning. If her family saw the house burning, they would definitely be very worried. And Xiaohua, Xiaohua didn't know what had happened to her.
She felt her body and luckily there were a few taels of silver in the pocket of her clothes. "Brother, I'm fine. Sorry to bother you." Chunxiao wanted to leave, but was stopped by the apprentice.
"Is the money not paid yet?" He clearly said he had paid the money just now.
"No," the apprentice smiled, "I'll give you your medicine, the medicine for cleaning your hands."
Chunxiao looked at her hands and hid them in her sleeves. There were still bloodstains on the cuffs. "Thank you!" It was Dongsheng who saved her yesterday. It seemed that Dongsheng sent her to the clinic and left. She took the medicine and went to the car dealership in town.
She rented an oxcart and a driver to take her back to Yanjia Village. Just as she arrived at the village entrance, she heard someone calling out, "That's Chunxiao! Chunxiao is back."
Several families who had been planning to visit her saw that she didn't even bother visiting and surrounded her. "Oh, you should go back quickly. Your house is on fire and your mother is worried sick. Your family is all at the end of the village now."
"Thank you, aunties. I'll be leaving first." She asked the driver to drive the car directly to the end of the village.
There are surprisingly few people walking around in the village. Today is the second day of the New Year, and many people should be visiting relatives. This New Year has been really stressful.
Under her guidance, the ox cart drove all the way to the end of the village. Before reaching the fence, she heard voices. She got off the cart, paid the money, and walked into the fence. It seemed that most of the villagers had gathered here.
Someone spotted her and shouted across the courtyard, "Bingfa, Bingfa, your daughter is back, Chunxiao is back."
This sound immediately made the crowd explode. The villagers looked towards the fence and saw that it was her. They immediately surrounded her and asked, "Chunxiao, are you okay?"
"Chunxiao, your mother is crying inside, you should go quickly."
"It's really God bless, God bless."
When she was almost at the door, Zhou and the others ran out, and hugged her when they saw her. "You're back, you scared me to death." Zhou cried so sadly.
Yan Bingfa and the others beside her were also overjoyed, wiping their tears as they watched her.
"It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back." The village head finally let go of his worried heart.
"Xiaohua!" Chunxiao saw Xiaohua standing in the yard. Apart from her head being wrapped in a cloth, everything else looked fine. "Xiaohua, are you okay?"
Xiaohua covered her mouth and shook her head, "Miss, I'm fine." Then she started crying.
"Mom, let's let my little sister go back to the house and sit down."
"Chunxiao, what happened? Dongsheng rode into the village last night and said there was a fire and asked us to come and put it out, but he disappeared. What happened to the fire? Where were you? We couldn't find you yesterday and we were so worried."
Chunxiao looked at her house, which was charred everywhere. The tiles on the roof had fallen off due to burnt materials. She was afraid that the house would need to be rebuilt. She suddenly thought of the money hidden in her house. She wondered if it was burned. However, with so many people around, it was not convenient for her to check.
Many people were standing in the yard watching them.
"Mom, the people who burned my house yesterday were human traffickers. I was kidnapped by them, and it was Dongsheng who saved me."
