"What's wrong?"
Lu Rang stopped the car and reached out to grab Shang Wu's hand.
The room was warm and cozy, but Shang Wu's fingertips were icy cold.
Lu Rang immediately took off his coat and covered her with it: "Why are you so cold? I'll take you back to have a doctor check you up."
"No, no need."
Shang Wu could feel his worried gaze and didn't dare to meet his eyes: "Let's go back. I'm so tired and want to go back to sleep as soon as possible."
Lu Rang looked at her, then looked away after two seconds and took her home.
Only then did Shang Wu dare to stare at his back, silently processing the recording, her mind filled with a jumble of thoughts.
Of course, she couldn't believe anyone's side of the story; the detective had to find out the contents of the recording.
But what she was certain of was that Lu Rang knew all this too.
Lu Rang knew that the company was not some inspirational enterprise built from scratch; it was her parents who had schemed to take away his father's company.
They ate it all up, leaving nothing behind.
It is known that Ruan Yuzhi did indeed bear some responsibility for the cause of his mother's suicide by jumping into the lake.
He knew that he had fallen in love with his enemy's daughter, and that her mother was the root cause of his father's bankruptcy, his mother's depression, and the breakdown of his parents' relationship.
Lu Rang knew all of this.
He silently acknowledged and processed this matter.
No one knew what he was thinking, not even her.
But Shang Wu was certain that Lu Rang would never hurt her in his life.
She suddenly understood why Lu Rang had stopped Lu Zheng from revealing the whole truth.
I was afraid she would feel guilty, afraid she would have difficulty facing it, and also afraid that she would go to the merchant to verify this matter, which would strain the relationship.
Lu Rang is too good, so good that Shang Wu almost wanted to cry.
She even began to believe in karma and retribution.
Perhaps it was because the business rose to prominence by taking advantage of existing companies that it gained access to the elite, which led to its bankruptcy years later, targeted by Zhou Yanci.
They had hurt others, and then they were hurt themselves.
Perhaps it was destined, an eye for an eye.
Now these merchants don't care anymore.
She desperately wanted to know what Lu Rang was really thinking, and whether he would have any concerns or burdens about being with her because of this.
Shang Wu felt increasingly distressed the more she thought about it.
When Lu Rang stopped the car, she curled up in the back and remained motionless.
Lu Rang opened the back door and was about to hug her when Shang Wu suddenly wrapped her arms tightly around his neck.
Lu Rang nearly crashed into her, then laughed and braced himself, creating some space between them, and asked softly, "What are you doing?"
"I will be good to you from now on." Shang Wu looked at him earnestly, "No matter what happens, you can't abandon me."
It was selfish of her to say that, but she couldn't help it.
Shang Wu rubbed her soft, uninjured cheek against Lu Rang, offering a hint of comfort.
A complex emotion flashed across Lu Rang's eyes as he smiled, grabbed Shang Wu's wrist, and pressed her down onto the car seat.
"I won't abandon you, but what's wrong with you? You seem to have something on your mind."
Shang Wu blinked slowly: "Come closer, and I'll tell you what's wrong with me."
Lu Rang obediently lowered his head.
The next second, soft lips pressed against his earlobe and gently blew air.
"I love you."
Lu Rang's breath hitched, his pupils turning dark: "Do you know what the consequences are for provoking me?"
Bang!
The car door slammed shut, and despite Shang Wu's repeated pleas for mercy, she was still tormented for two hours.
...
late at night.
Shang Wu turned over and instinctively reached out to hug the person next to her.
She rushed there only to find that Lu Rang wasn't in the room.
Shang Wu sat up and picked up her phone.
She has already sent the audio file to the detective.
The detective received the documents and replied that he would investigate the matter in three days, asking her to wait patiently.
Shang Wu no longer had the patience to wait.
She needed to know what kind of people her parents, who had been by her side for so many years, really were.
She held her phone, thought for a moment, and then added a few more words.
[Get the job done as quickly as possible. Based on the three-day deadline, you'll receive 100,000 yuan for every hour you finish ahead of schedule.]
After finishing the text message, Shang Wu grabbed a shawl from the bedside table, wrapped it around herself, and was about to go downstairs when she suddenly saw Lu Rang sitting in the living room.
The living room lights were off, but there were warm-toned LED strips on the stairs, which faintly illuminated Lu Rang's silhouette.
Lu Rang sat on the last step of the stairs, holding his phone in his hand. A stunningly beautiful photo of a woman filled the entire screen.
Shang Wu had seen Yu Ruyun in the news; she was indeed stunningly beautiful, like a fairy.
She just didn't expect that Lu Rang looked even better in this picture.
Her naturally alluring eyes and brows, oval face, and clove-shaped lips.
Lu Rang resembles her by six points, which is already a rare and remarkable appearance.
But Shangwu couldn't think about these things.
All she could see was Lu Rang's lonely and forlorn figure.
He lost his mother and brother when he was twelve. His father was secretly gossiped about as a phoenix man who coveted the Yu family's wealth.
He has not been happy in all these years, and the person who caused this is his mother.
Shang Wu subconsciously touched her face and chin, feeling somewhat irritated.
This face, like Lu Rang's, bears a six-tenths resemblance to his mother.
Shang Wu pursed her lips, not making a sound to disturb them, and turned back to her room to lie down silently.
She tossed and turned for a long time without falling asleep, until she heard Lu Rang open the door and come in, at which point she immediately closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
Lu Rang moved closer to her and hugged her tightly. After a long while, he sighed softly, or perhaps he didn't.
Shang Wu silently sensed his emotional change.
Besides dependence, there is also sadness and grief.
She pretended to be sleepy, turned over, and mumbled, "Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Lu Rang rubbed her head and then hugged her in his arms.
