After Cheng Zhou left, only Shang Wu and Lu You, who had just returned, remained in the ward that night.
Seeing that Lu You still seemed somewhat absent-minded, Shang Wu sighed inwardly and pushed the heavy file bag in front of Lu You.
"Sister You, Cheng Zhou asked me to give this to you."
Lu You snapped out of her daze and picked up the file bag with a puzzled look: "What's this? Why are you being so mysterious?"
As she spoke, she opened the seal and pulled out the documents inside.
The equity transfer agreement clearly states that the transferor is Cheng Zhou and the transferee is Lu You.
Lu You's expression froze instantly. She flipped through the pages rapidly in disbelief, her fingers even trembling slightly.
"He...he's gone mad?!" Lu You suddenly looked up at Shang Wu, her voice trembling. "He gave me all his shares, just to..."
She couldn't bring herself to say what came next.
Cheng Zhou went to such lengths to be with her.
Shang Wu nodded, her feelings somewhat complicated: "He said that if you are willing to be with him, all of this will be yours, and you will be in charge of the Cheng family from now on. He promises that he will never let anyone cause you trouble again, including himself."
If you don't want to, consider this compensation and apology on behalf of Cheng Keke and the Cheng family. He will never bother you again.
Lu You held the stack of papers as if they were hot potatoes, and for a moment she didn't know how to react.
A lingering, indescribable tremor remained within her heart.
She did consider using this method to make Cheng Zhou back down, but she never imagined that this seemingly cynical man, who valued the family business so much, would actually do something so crazy and reckless.
This is no longer a simple matter of liking or pursuing; it's almost like gambling with everything he has.
"He really is..." Lu You couldn't find the right words to describe her feelings at this moment, she just felt a tightness in her chest.
Shang Wu observed her expression and cautiously said, "Sister You, I know that the Cheng family, especially Cheng Keke, has brought you a lot of trouble and bad experiences. However, Cheng Zhou seems to be serious this time. He looked really pitiful here just now."
She carefully chose her words, "Perhaps you could give him another chance? Give him some time to resolve his family's problems? After all, it's not easy to find someone who truly loves you and is willing to pay such a high price for you."
Shang Wu genuinely felt that Cheng Zhou had shown utmost sincerity this time.
She could tell that Lu You wasn't entirely indifferent to Cheng Zhou, but was simply scared off by the mess Cheng's family was making.
Lu You remained silent for a long time, her fingers unconsciously stroking the priceless agreement.
Sunlight streamed through the window onto the paper, reflecting a cold luster that seemed to carry a scorching heat.
She wasn't unmoved.
The impact of a man being willing to give you everything is enormous.
However, after a long while, she firmly shook her head.
She stuffed the agreement back into the file folder, as if trying to shun its heavy weight.
“Awu, thank you for speaking up for him. I admit, I was surprised and even a little moved to see this.” She laughed self-deprecatingly. “But it’s no use.”
She raised her head, her eyes filled with clarity and an almost cruel rationality: "This isn't about the shares, or even entirely about Cheng Zhou. The problem is, if I choose him, I will inevitably become family with someone like Cheng Keke."
That's his own sister, blood relatives. This isn't something he can completely change by severing ties with her through shares or making verbal promises.
Lu You seemed to see Cheng Keke's spoiled, willful, and malicious face again, as well as the indiscriminate pampering and chaotic family atmosphere of Cheng's parents.
"I can imagine the endless troubles I will face in the coming decades. Today, Cheng Keke may just be causing trouble and I need to clean up the mess, but tomorrow it may be something even more outrageous."
That kind of family environment is like a huge quagmire; once you're trapped, it's hard to get out cleanly.
Her tone was filled with deep weariness and apprehension. "I'm tired. I really don't want to waste the rest of my life getting entangled with endless troubles and someone I can't like or even hate. That's too exhausting."
She looked at Shang Wu with sincere but helpless eyes: "Cheng Zhou may be able to control Cheng Keke for a while, but can he control her for a lifetime? Can he change his parents' decades-old beliefs? Even if he can, how much effort and suffering will I have to put in to wait and endure this process? I can't afford to gamble."
"Love is about romance and beauty, but marriage is about the daily grind and the adjustment of two families. I admit I'm selfish; I just want to choose an environment where I feel comfortable and can grow together."
Lu You took a deep breath and finally pushed the file bag back to Shang Wu. "Please return this to him for me. Tell him that I received his kindness, but I'm sorry."
Seeing Lu You's resolute expression, Shang Wu knew that her mind was made up.
Lu You's considerations were realistic and clear-headed, even somewhat pessimistic, but there was no way to refute them.
Cheng Keke's existence was indeed an almost insurmountable chasm between them.
“Alright,” Shang Wu stopped trying to persuade him, just sighed softly and took back the file bag. “I will give it to his sister You. Whatever decision you make, I will support you.”
Lu You smiled, a hint of relief mixed with a subtle sadness: "Thank you for understanding me. Perhaps I just don't love him that much, which is why I can weigh the pros and cons so rationally."
