Chapter 253 Staying Out All Night

The female assistant was intimidated by her imposing manner and explained somewhat flusteredly, "My name is Lin Ruan, and I am a new intern assistant at the law firm. Last night, at a dinner party, Attorney Lu drank too much, and Attorney Yan asked me to give Attorney Lu a ride home on my way."

But Lu was too drunk to explain his address, so I had no choice but to take him back to my house first…

"Take him back to your home?" Lu You sneered, his eyes filled with undisguised sarcasm.

"All night? A man and a woman alone? Didn't you know he had a wife? Couldn't you call Yan Yue? Couldn't you use his fingerprint to unlock his phone and find his address?"

Lin Ruan blushed and paled as she was questioned, stammering, "I panicked at the time and didn't think much about it."

Lu You was too lazy to listen to her nonsense anymore, so she walked to the bedside and pushed Lu Rang hard.

"Lu Rang! Wake up!"

Lu Rang was pushed and shoved, and he opened his eyes groggily.

His head was throbbing, and his eyes were glazed over. When he finally saw the unfamiliar surroundings, he sat up abruptly.

"Where is this?" Lu Rang rubbed his temples, looked around, and couldn't remember how he ended up sleeping in a strange room.

He only remembered having dinner last night, and then inexplicably blacked out.

Seeing his completely unaware expression, Lu You's anger subsided by half, but she still kept a cold face.

"Where? This is your assistant Lin's home!"

"You were so drunk last night that you slept in some girl's boudoir!"

"They've even started calling A-Wu!"

Lu Rang frowned. "Impossible. I'm allergic to alcohol. I didn't drink a drop yesterday."

He looked at Lin Ruan, who was standing at the door with her head down, and then at Lu You.

“A-Wu, she…”

"Put your clothes on! Come back with me immediately and explain!" Lu You ordered, turning and walking out of the bedroom.

Lu Rang immediately put on his coat, not having time to think about what was going on.

He was just afraid that A-Wu would misunderstand and hurt her feelings.

Lu Rang followed Lu You away without glancing at Lin Ruan.

At home.

Shang Wu lay in bed, but did not fall asleep.

The dull pain in my lower abdomen seemed a little more pronounced than before.

She closed her eyes, and the young woman's voice on the phone kept replaying in her mind.

Shang Wu turned over, trying to put the thought aside, but then she thought of her child and felt a tightness in her chest.

Lu Rang followed Lu You home with worry.

The sound of the key being inserted into the lock was exceptionally clear.

Lu Rang took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and was prepared to face Shang Wu's questioning and even anger.

But the living room was very quiet.

Lu Rang frowned, changed his shoes, and tiptoed toward the bedroom.

The bedroom door was ajar.

He was about to push the door open when he heard Shang Wu's hushed voice coming from inside, as if she were on the phone.

His movements stopped.

"...Yeah, I'm fine, it's just a little tiring being with him."

Shang Wu's voice carried an undeniable weariness.

"Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself."

"Things are a bit tough right now, but they'll pass eventually."

Being together is tiring and unpleasant.

It turns out that, without his knowledge, Ah Wu was enduring such emotions.

And he actually made her mood even worse because of last night.

Lu Rang felt somewhat uncomfortable.

He thought he had given her all his love and protection, but it seemed he still couldn't make her feel completely safe and happy.

Lu Rang stood at the door, hesitating, and did not go in immediately.

The call inside seemed to have ended.

Lu Rang waited a few more seconds before gently pushing the door open.

Shang Wu was leaning against the headboard, still holding her phone in her hand, her eyes somewhat vacant, and her complexion still not very good.

When she saw Lu Rang enter, she merely raised her eyes slightly, her face showing no obvious emotional fluctuation.

"I'm back." Her tone was calm, even overly calm.

This calm, however, made Lu Rang even more uneasy.

He walked to the bedside, sat down, and carefully observed her expression.

"Awu, I'm sorry." He began, his voice hoarse. "I didn't drink last night, I don't know how I blacked out. I don't know how I ended up sleeping at Assistant Lin's house. I'll find out what happened, I..."

"No need to explain," Shang Wu interrupted him, her tone filled with a deep weariness. "I didn't doubt you."

She was telling the truth.

After going through so many ups and downs, she had a basic level of trust in Lu Rang.

Besides, Lu Rang is indeed allergic; if he had really been drinking, he should be in the hospital right now.

Shang Wu just felt tired.

My body hasn't fully recovered, and I was already feeling down when this terrible thing happened.

She really didn't have the extra energy to question, argue, or listen to explanations.

She just wanted to stay quiet.

However, her tired appearance, which showed she didn't want to hear any explanation, was interpreted in a completely different way by Lu Rang.

If you truly had no doubts and completely trusted someone, why would you react this way?

Why wouldn't you even listen to an explanation?

How could he be so calm about him sleeping in another woman's house!

Unless, as she said on the phone, there is already a rift between them, or she is really not doing well and is tired.

Lu Rang's heart sank.

He looked at Shang Wu's distant profile, and all the explanations he had prepared stuck in his throat.

The atmosphere became stiff and awkward.

Silence spread between the two.

After a long while, Lu Rang finally spoke with difficulty, his voice somewhat muffled:

"Then you should get some rest."

"I... went to the law firm."

After he finished speaking, he stood up and gave Shang Wu a deep look, hoping she would say something, even just a word of reproach.

But Shang Wu just gave a soft "hmm" and still didn't look at him.

Lu Rang turned around and left the bedroom and home with heavy steps.
