Chapter 281 The Dust Settles

Following Lu Rang's instructions, Li Li said in a panicked and tearful voice, "Mr. Wang... Something terrible has happened!"

"Something happened? What happened?"

Wang Yun's voice rose slightly, carrying a hint of barely perceptible anticipation.

"It's...it's Mrs. Lu! She suddenly had severe abdominal pain tonight and bled a lot. We rushed her to the hospital, but the doctor said the baby couldn't be saved..."

Li Li's acting was quite realistic, her voice even choked with emotion.

There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone.

A few seconds later, Wang Yun's voice rang out again, this time with an barely suppressed, twisted excitement and pleasure: "Oh? That's it? Are you sure?"

“Yes, yes! The doctor said it himself! Mr. Lu was almost going crazy at the time…” Li Li continued to embellish the story.

“Heh,” Wang Yun let out a low, chilling chuckle. “Well done. I’ll transfer the money to you as agreed. Things are getting tense lately, so you should stay out of the way and don’t contact me again.”

Seeing that the other party was about to hang up, Li Li hurriedly followed Lu Rang's prior instructions and said urgently, "Mr. Wang! Wait! This matter is too big. The Lu family will definitely not let it go. I... I'm scared! That little money isn't enough for me to run away!"

"Could you give me another sum of money? Or, could we meet and you give me the money in person so I can leave Yecheng with peace of mind?"

When she asked to meet, her heart was pounding in her throat.

Wang Yun on the other end of the phone hesitated, her tone becoming wary: "Meeting? There's no need. I'll transfer the money to your overseas account."

"Mr. Wang! Please!" Li Li pleaded, her voice trembling with tears. "I can only leave in peace after I get the cash and see you in person! Please help me this once, since I've done something for you! I promise I'll disappear as soon as I get the money and won't implicate you!"

Wang Yun thought that it wouldn't hurt to meet a woman who was terrified and only wanted money, and that it would shut her up completely.

After a moment of silence, he finally relented, his tone carrying an arrogant condescension: "Fine, tomorrow night at eight o'clock, the back alley of Guiye Bar. There are no security cameras there. Come alone, and don't try anything funny."

That was a notorious place in Yecheng, a melting pot of all sorts of people, and its back alleys were especially dark and chaotic. Wang Yun's choice of that location was clearly carefully considered, making it easier to hide and escape.

"Okay! Okay! Thank you, Mr. Wang! I will definitely be there on time!" Li Li hurriedly agreed.

The phone call ended, and silence returned to the study.

Li breathed a sigh of relief, her back already soaked with cold sweat.

A cold smile curled at the corners of Lu Rang's lips.

Wang Yun took the bait.

"He arranged to meet at 8 p.m. tomorrow night in the alley behind the bar," Li Li reported.

"I heard you." Lu Rang's voice was calm. He looked at Shang Wu and said, "Tomorrow night, I will lead people to set up a perimeter in advance. Cheng Zhou and the people he found will also be nearby to provide support."

Shang Wu nodded, though worried, she had more trust in Lu Rang's abilities.

"You must be careful. Since Wang Yun dared to choose that kind of place, he must have made some preparations."

"Don't worry." Lu Rang walked to her side and took her hand. "This time, he won't be able to escape."

He then began to systematically assign tasks and contact his most trusted and skilled bodyguard team.

After communicating with Cheng Zhou again to determine the specific action plan and signals for tomorrow night, they used some non-public channels to ensure that they could obtain evidence of Wang Yun's instructions.

The entire villa has quietly entered a state of outward relaxation but inward tension due to tomorrow night's operation.

Li Li was kept under strict surveillance to ensure she wouldn't betray him at the last minute or pass any information to Wang Yun.

As night deepened, Shang Wu lay down with Lu Rang by her side, but she couldn't fall asleep.

She could sense that Lu Rang beside her was also in a tense, ready-to-go state.

"Lu Rang," she said softly, "you must come back safely tomorrow."

Lu Rang turned to the side, accurately finding her lips in the darkness, and placed a gentle yet firm kiss on them.

“I promise.” His deep voice rang out in the night, carrying an undeniable power, “For you and the baby, I will definitely come back safely. And then, I will completely eliminate this disgusting fly.”

His words dispelled the last unease in Shang Wu's heart.

She nestled into his arms, feeling his steady heartbeat, knowing that tomorrow would be a tough battle, but in order to eliminate future troubles, this battle had to be fought, and it had to be won.

...

The night was deep, and the back alley of the bar was filled with the pungent smell of rotting garbage and cheap alcohol. Only a dim, broken street lamp cast a pale glow.

At 7:50 p.m., the people Lu Rang had arranged had already quietly infiltrated the designated location.

He himself sat in an inconspicuous black sedan across the alley, his sharp gaze fixed on the alley entrance through the tinted windows.

Cheng Zhou led another group of people to guard another exit of the alley, forming an encirclement.

At exactly eight o'clock, a figure wearing an inconspicuous gray coat and a hat appeared at the alley entrance.

Li Li arrived as agreed.

She looked around nervously, her fingers gripping the hem of her clothes tightly, taking each step with extreme caution.

Time passed slowly, and apart from the occasional stray cat darting through the alley, there was no other movement.

Wang Yun was cautious and did not appear on time.

It wasn't until 8:10 that an older model car without license plates slowly glided to the alley entrance and came to a stop.

The car door opened, and a man wearing a hoodie with the brim pulled low quickly got out and slipped into the alley.

Wang Yun was clearly on guard. He did not immediately approach Li Li, but instead stood in the shadows and checked the surroundings again.
