What are you up to?
Lu You scoffed and casually tossed her bag onto the entryway cabinet, making a loud noise.
She walked step by step to Madam Cheng, her height and aura instantly creating a sense of oppression.
Lu You narrowed his eyes, looked at Madam Cheng's well-maintained face, and sneered, his voice clear and resounding.
"Madam Cheng, please make this clear: it wasn't me, Lu You, who begged and cried to marry into the Cheng family; it was you who came to my door time and time again, pleading with me to marry Cheng Zhou!"
Her words were cold, ruthlessly tearing away the veil of pretense.
"Now I'm married into this family."
"What, do you think it's up to you how I use my uterus?"
"Whether or not to have children, and when to have them, is up to me, Lu You, to decide, not you!"
Standing at the door, Shang Wu listened to Lu You's merciless words and inwardly cried out that something was wrong.
That's too harsh a statement.
As expected, Madam Cheng was thoroughly hurt by these words.
Her biggest worry was that she had cried and begged Lu You to marry her, so that her son wouldn't leave home and become a cook outside, never to come back and inherit the family business.
When Lu You exposed her in public, her face flushed red and then turned pale, and her breathing suddenly became rapid.
Madam Cheng clutched her chest, her finger trembling as she pointed at Lu You.
"You...you..."
She hesitated for a long time, unable to utter a single word, then her eyes suddenly rolled upwards, and her body slumped backwards.
"mom!"
Cheng Zhou's expression changed drastically. He rushed forward and supported his mother, who had fainted.
"Mom! What's wrong?"
"Youyou! Call an ambulance quickly!"
Lu You was stunned; she hadn't expected Madam Cheng to faint from anger.
Shang Wu was the first to react. She immediately took out her phone, dialed the emergency number, and quickly explained the situation and address.
The ambulance arrived quickly and took Mrs. Cheng to the nearest private hospital.
After emergency examination and treatment, the doctor said that Mrs. Cheng suffered from acute myocardial ischemia caused by excessive emotional excitement, accompanied by hypertensive crisis. She needs to be hospitalized for observation for a few days, but her life is not in danger at the moment.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Cheng Zhou stood by his mother's bedside, watching her pale face and the oxygen mask on. He frowned and remained silent.
Lu You and Shang Wu didn't leave either. They helped with the hospitalization procedures, bought light meals and drinking water, and quietly helped take care of the patient in the ward.
However, the atmosphere turned icy. Cheng Zhou didn't say a word to Lu You from beginning to end. His gaze would occasionally fall on Shang Wu, and he would whisper a thank you or ask about the precautions the doctor had given him, as if Lu You were invisible.
This deliberate ignoring is more painful than direct accusation.
Lu You's anger and resentment intertwined, burning ever brighter.
She ran around doing everything she could, only to be met with such coldness.
Shang Wu handed the warm water to Cheng Zhou once again.
Cheng Zhou ignored Lu You and only thanked Shang Wu.
Lu You, unable to bear it any longer, abruptly put down the items she was organizing, making a "bang" sound.
She walked up to Cheng Zhou, her voice trembling slightly.
"Cheng Zhou, what do you mean?"
"From the moment we arrived at the hospital, you've been acting like I don't exist, haven't you?"
She pointed to Mrs. Cheng, who was sleeping soundly on the hospital bed, her eyes slightly red.
"Do you think today's situation is entirely my fault? That I'm the one who made her this angry?"
Cheng Zhou finally looked up at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions, including exhaustion, helplessness, and a hint of barely perceptible resentment.
He took a deep breath, his voice hoarse.
“Youyou, I’m not blaming you. I know my mom said hurtful things, but…”
Cheng Zhou paused, his tone tinged with helplessness.
“You could have talked to her nicely. There was no need to be so harsh. Don’t let things get out of control. She is, after all, my mother, and she’s getting old…”
"Speak properly?"
Lu You felt as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world.
She interrupted him, her voice filled with unbelievable sarcasm.
"Cheng Zhou, is that how your mother talks? She immediately pointed her finger at me and accused me of having bad intentions, and of causing the Cheng family line to die out! How am I supposed to talk to her nicely? Kneel down and promise to have a baby right away?!"
Her voice sounded particularly jarring in the quiet hospital room.
Upon seeing this, Shang Wu immediately stepped forward and gently took Lu You's arm.
"Sister You, calm down. This is a hospital."
Lu You's chest heaved violently.
Looking at Cheng Zhou's face, which was filled with "you shouldn't have done this," my heart grew colder and colder.
She shook off Shang Wu's hand, gave Cheng Zhou a deep look, her eyes filled with disappointment and a sense of betrayal.
"Okay, very good."
"Cheng Zhou".
She didn't say another word, turned around and resolutely left the ward, her footsteps fading into the empty corridor.
Cheng Zhou watched her figure disappear through the door, opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing.
He simply closed his eyes wearily.
Shang Wu sighed inwardly as she watched this scene.
She knew that this crack would probably not be so easy to repair.
She glanced at Madam Cheng, who was still unconscious on the hospital bed, then at Cheng Zhou, who remained silent with his eyes closed. After a moment of silence, she spoke softly.
"Cheng Zhou, have the caregiver look after Auntie for a while, let's go out and find a place to have a cup of coffee."
"Let's chat."
Cheng Zhou opened his eyes and looked at Shang Wu, his eyes filled with confusion and pain.
He finally nodded slowly.
The hospital's coffee shop.
The lights were dim and yellowish.
The air was filled with the rich aroma of coffee beans.
