Chapter 303 is just a setup.

Cheng Zhou just stared at Lu You quietly, as if he were looking at a stranger.

Lu You felt flustered and confused by his gaze; her nose stung, and her eyes instantly reddened.

She forced back her tears, her lips moved several times before she finally found her voice and managed to squeeze out, "What did the doctor say?"

Cheng Zhou pursed his lips and chuckled softly, as if resigned to his fate.

He didn't answer her question. Instead, he looked away from her face and back at the pale ceiling, muttering in an almost inaudible voice, "You've come...it's good."

Lu You frowned slightly.

What does that mean? Does he feel relieved that she's finally come to see him? Or does he feel at ease leaving now that she's here...?

Lu You dared not think any further.

She was speechless again. She found all her words to be utterly powerless at that moment.

What else could she say? Should she question him about why he wasn't taking better care of himself, or apologize for the hurtful things she said last time?

In the face of life and death, those disputes and hurts seem insignificant, yet because there may be no way to make amends, they appear particularly heavy and regrettable.

Lu You silently pulled over a chair from the bedside and sat down.

The two were not far apart, yet it felt as if there was an insurmountable chasm between them.

A longer silence fell over the ward.

Only the sound of the liquid slowly dripping from the IV bottle testifies to the passage of time.

One of them lay down, staring blankly upwards, while the other sat with his head down, his hands tightly clasped together, his nails digging deep into his palms.

A thousand words were lost in this silence.

Past loving arguments and hurtful reluctance have trapped the two of them, leaving them unable to struggle or break free.

Lu You sat there, motionless.

She didn't know what she could do or what she should do.

She felt ice-cold all over, her mind a jumbled mess. The sense of helplessness and bewilderment she felt was more overwhelming and terrifying than any other upheaval in her life.

Cheng Zhou didn't look at her again or say another word from beginning to end.

He finally broke the silence.

He didn't look at Lu You, his voice dry and coldly calm: "You can leave."

Lu You suddenly looked up, staring at him in disbelief.

Cheng Zhou continued to stare at the ceiling, as if talking to thin air: "Go find Fu Mingyuan, isn't he better than me? You two... are quite a good match."

He paused, each word seeming to be squeezed out from between his teeth, carrying a self-destructive weariness.

"Don't come to see me anymore, there's no need."

Lu You couldn't listen anymore. She suddenly stood up, and tears instantly streamed down her face.

It wasn't out of gratitude, but out of resentment, anger, and the pain of being abandoned.

Looking at the man on the bed who wouldn't even glance at her, all her worries, helplessness, and the slight regret she had just felt vanished after hearing those words.

"Cheng Zhou, you bastard! What kind of time is this to provoke me with such words!"

Lu You let out a low growl with a sob in her voice, unable to stay any longer. She turned and rushed out of the ward, almost bumping into Shang Wu who was about to enter.

Shang Wu instinctively stepped back, but when she saw the tears streaming down her face, she was startled and quickly helped her up: "Sister You!"

Lu You simply shook off her hand forcefully, said nothing, and ran crying towards the end of the corridor.

Shang Wu stood there watching her disappearing figure, sighed helplessly, and turned to walk into the ward.

Cheng Zhou remained in the same position, but his eyes were tightly closed and his lips were pressed together, as if he had suffered a great blow.

Shang Wu had already overheard everything outside.

Seeing Cheng Zhou like this, she felt a mix of emotions she couldn't quite describe.

"Why did you have to say such things to provoke her?" Shang Wu asked softly.

Cheng Zhou didn't open his eyes, but forced a smile that was more like a grimace, his voice hoarse.

“A short pain is worse than a long one, Ah Wu. I can’t keep dragging her down like this. She deserves someone better and a better life.”

At this moment, Lu Rang also finished his business and came over. He saw Shang Wu standing at the door of the ward and looked at the empty corridor. He understood what was going on.

He walked over to Shang Wu and asked in a low voice, "Where's my sister?"

"She ran away." Shang Wu rubbed her aching temples. "She was crying terribly."

Lu Rang frowned, looking at Cheng Zhou in the ward with a complicated expression.

He hesitated for a moment, then said to Shang Wu, "I'll go check on her. You look after things here for now."

After saying that, Lu Rang chased after Lu You in the direction she had left.

He caught up with Lu You at the hospital entrance, opened the car door, sat in the passenger seat, looked at his sister's red and swollen eyes, and asked in a deep voice, "What are your plans now?"

Lu You gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, her knuckles turning white, and shook her head in frustration.

"I don't know, my mind is a mess. Let me be alone for a while, go back and think about it..."

Her mind was a complete mess, and she had mixed feelings, not knowing what to do.

Cheng Zhou's words, in particular, almost drove her crazy.

Seeing her like this, Lu Rang knew he wouldn't get anything out of her now, so he could only sigh and say, "Okay, I'll take you home. Don't drive; you're not feeling well."

After settling Lu You in, Lu Rang returned to the hospital. Shang Wu was standing by the window in the corridor outside the ward, gazing absently at the few figures moving around downstairs.

She couldn't help but wonder if she had gone too far by cooperating with the doctor in this misdiagnosis drama.

Cheng Zhou's reaction was even more desperate than she had expected, and Lu You was also seriously hurt.

What if... what if things backfire and make their relationship completely irreparable?
