Gu Yan looked at Lu Yuwu, a knowing glint in his eyes behind his glasses.
He reached out and gently took her hand, which was resting on the table; his palm was warm and dry.
"Let bygones be bygones, Xiaowu. I like you as you are now. Let's move forward together."
"It's okay, I don't care what's going on between you and Fu Yan."
Lu Yuwu shook his hand in return, revealing a genuine smile.
This scene was witnessed by the pair of eyes that had been secretly following from the distant window.
Fu Yan gripped his chopsticks, abruptly averted his gaze, his chest tightening with a choking sensation, unable to eat another bite.
He got up and left.
Zhou Zixuan was taken aback: "Where are you going? Aren't you going to eat?"

In the afternoon, Lu Yuwu received a call from Shang Wu.
“Xiaowu, there’s a charity auction gala tonight. Mom was thinking of taking you with me because I saw a nice set of antique jewelry that I think would suit you well.”
"But I have an important client meeting at my studio right now, and I really can't get away."
Shang Wu's voice was apologetic, "I've already asked someone to keep an eye on the things. Would you like to go by yourself? I've also asked someone to go with you so you won't be bored by yourself."
Lu Yuwu assumed it was her father or her aunt Lu You, so she readily agreed: "Okay, Mom, send me the time and address."

"Aunt Shang had something come up and asked me to go with you. I'm just helping out, don't overthink it. I have no interest in bothering someone who has someone else on their mind."
Lu Yuwu felt a slight tingling in her heart. She gripped her handbag tightly, took a deep breath to suppress the bitterness surging in her heart, and replied indifferently, "Thank you, I appreciate your help."
All the way, the only sound inside the car was breathing.
The air seemed to freeze.
Lu Yuwu turned her head to look at the rapidly receding night view outside the window, while Fu Yan focused on driving.
The distance between the two was greater than that between strangers.
The charity gala was held at a secluded private estate on the outskirts of the city.
Fu Yan's appearance attracted the attention of many people.
However, the aura he exuded made many people who wanted to approach him hesitate.
Lu Yuwu tried to ignore the person with a very strong presence beside her and, following her mother's instructions, found the catalog of antique jewelry.
They were a pair of jade bracelets, with a warm and lustrous color and an elegant, antique style.
After the auction began, Fu Yan barely looked at the items on the stage, but sat silently next to Lu Yuwu, drinking glass after glass of champagne brought to him by the waiter.

The car remained eerily silent.
The dazzling lights outside the window reflected on Fu Yan's profile, as well as the flickering emotions in his eyes.
Soon, the car slowly came to a stop outside the Lu family villa.
Lu Yuwu unbuckled her seatbelt, picked up the bracelet box from the back seat, and said softly, "Thank you. How much is this? I'll have my mom transfer it to you."
She reached for the car door, but her wrist was suddenly gripped tightly by a strong force.
Fu Yan turned around at some point, his eyes churning with emotions that had been suppressed all night in the dim light.
He stared intently at her, his voice hoarse and low due to alcohol and his emotions.
"Lu Yuwu, are you really so sure you can look forward so easily?"
Lu Yuwu felt a shiver run through her heart as she was struck by the undisguised pain and questioning in his eyes.
But she immediately braced herself, forcefully trying to pull her hand back, her tone hard: "Otherwise what? Should I stay here and wait for you, Fu Yan? You're the one who ruined everything between us first!"
"I ruined everything?"
Fu Yan seemed to be completely enraged by these words.
He suddenly leaned closer, his breath, reeking of alcohol, spraying onto her face, and with his other hand he gripped the back of her neck, forcing her to look up at him.
“Lu Yuwu, you…”
He couldn't finish his sentence because Lu Yuwu's eyes were glistening with tears as she stubbornly stared at him, looking both pitiful and mesmerized.
Fu Yan's breathing became slightly sluggish, and all his rationality collapsed in an instant.
He lowered his head, sighed silently, and kissed those lips that always uttered hurtful words fiercely.
