Luo Jun stood to the side, looking somewhat embarrassed, but still maintained a polite silence.
Seeing that the situation was not good, Shang Wu quickly stepped forward and grabbed Lu Rang's arm, gently advising, "Rang, don't get agitated. Dad just got back and had a long journey. Let's talk about it slowly."
She then turned to Lu Zheng, her voice gentle, "Dad, don't be angry. We understand that you care about Xiaowu. It's just that she's only just come of age, and it might be hard for her to accept these things. Let's let her and Luo Jun go upstairs to rest for a bit, okay?"
Lu Yuwu received her mother's look, and although she was unwilling, she reluctantly nodded to Luo Jun and led him upstairs.
Watching the two children disappear around the corner of the stairs, Shang Wu gently pulled Lu Rang to the side hall.
“What’s the point of arguing with him? You know how bad the old man is.” Shang Wu lowered her voice.
Lu Rang rubbed his temples, his voice weary: "He can't do this! What era are we living in? Still having these arranged marriages! Xiao Wu and Fu Yan, that child..."
“I know.” Shang Wu interrupted him, her eyes clear. “That’s why I told you to calm down first. I’ll go talk to Dad.”
Shang Wu returned to the living room, where Lu Zheng remained seated with a sullen face.
She walked over and poured the old man another cup of hot tea, speaking calmly, "Dad, I know you genuinely care about Xiaowu, and Luo Jun does seem like a good candidate."
Lu Zheng snorted, his expression softening slightly.
Shang Wu changed the subject and continued, "However, matters of the heart cannot be forced. In fact, Xiao Wu may already have someone she likes."
Lu Zheng's sharp gaze immediately swept over her: "Who?"
“Fu Yan, a child of the Fu family, you should still remember him.” Shang Wu said frankly, “The two of them grew up together since childhood and know each other very well. They may have had some misunderstandings before, and they were together and then separated, but Fu Yan was serious about Xiao Wu, and Xiao Wu didn’t let go of him either.”
"That kid from the Fu family?" Lu Zheng frowned even more, clearly having some impression of Fu Yan, but seemingly not very satisfied.
"Hmph, what can a mere brat accomplish? Can he compare to the steady and outstanding young man from the Luo family?"
"Dad, relationships aren't business transactions; you can't just look at the conditions."
Shang Wu patiently advised, "Fu Yan is a capable child, and he is sincere towards our Xiao Wu. If you forcibly separate them, it might backfire and hurt the child's feelings. Wouldn't that be a loss?"
Lu Zheng remained silent for a moment, holding his teacup, seemingly lost in thought.
After a while, he said in a deep voice, "If their relationship is really that unbreakable, they won't separate even if Luo Jun appears. If they break up because of this little test, it means they were never suitable to begin with, so it's better to end it sooner rather than later!"
Shang Wu knew the old man was stubborn, but judging from his words, there was still some room for negotiation.
She took a deep breath, made a concession, and bought time for her daughter: "Dad, how about this? You give us, and Xiaowu and Fu Yan, some time, three days."
"Just three days. If they can handle things on their own within these three days and prove that their relationship can withstand the test, then you should respect the children's choice and not bring up the matter of marriage again."
"If they can't handle it themselves, then we'll follow your arrangements, okay?"
Lu Zheng raised his eyelids and glanced at Shang Wu, seemingly weighing his options.
Finally, he put down his teacup, his voice carrying an unquestionable authority: "Fine, three days it is. I want to see just how strong your so-called relationship really is, but don't let the children know about this."
Shang Wu sighed and nodded.
Upstairs, Lu Yuwu was completely unaware of this.
While facing Luo Jun, her thoughts had already flown to Fu Yan, the man who both angered and longed for her.
Downstairs, Shang Wu was filled with worry, wondering if the children could hold onto each other in these short three days.
