Cheng Zhou frantically broke free from Lu You's hand, his cheeks flushed red, and he stammered as he spoke.
"Miss Lu! Please have some self-respect!!"
He awkwardly straightened his askew collar, glanced at Lu You's sly smile, and finally looked at Shang Wu for help: "A-Wu, what exactly happened? They..."
Shang Wu found Cheng Zhou's embarrassed and bewildered appearance both amusing and helpless.
She gently straightened up from Lu Rang's embrace, her face still bearing traces of tears, but her expression had softened considerably.
She tugged at Lu Rang's hand, signaling him not to just watch the spectacle, and gave Cheng Zhou an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry for making you worry. Actually, it was all a misunderstanding."
She carefully chose her words and explained simply: "Sister Lu You is not Lu Rang's fiancée, she is Lu Rang's older sister. They pretended to be engaged to test me before, but now everything has been made clear."
"Sister?!" Cheng Zhou's eyes widened even more as he processed this unbelievable information.
So all that indignant cursing he did was for nothing?
And all of this is a setup.
Cheng Zhou's expression became even more complex, his heart filled with even more indignation for Shang Wu.
"So, you all conspired to deceive A-Wu?"
His tone turned somber, filled with obvious disapproval and anger, especially the look he gave Lu Rang, which was filled with even more contempt.
"Lu Rang, instead of directly pursuing your love, you're testing the waters. There's no hope in living such a twisted life! What do you take A-Wu for!"
Before he could finish speaking, resentment and deep-seated jealousy towards Lu Rang surged up again.
Remembering the comments about Lu Rang that she had heard from her brother Shang Wu, she blurted them out without thinking.
"No wonder Brother Yun Shen said you're a lunatic! I think you're really quite ill! Using such methods to bully A-Wu!"
"Cheng Zhou!"
Shang Wu's expression changed, and she hurriedly spoke up to stop him.
She never expected Cheng Zhou to say it in front of Lu Rang at this time!
As expected, Lu Rang's face instantly darkened, the air pressure around him suddenly dropped to freezing point, and his eyes became sinister and terrifying.
He took a sudden step forward, his fists clenched so tightly they cracked, as if he were about to tear Cheng Zhou to pieces at any moment.
"Lu Rang, stop."
Shang Wu pulled him back and whispered, "He's talking nonsense. Don't listen to his lies. Calm down."
Lu Rang clenched his fists and pursed his lips.
Upon seeing this, Lu You immediately dropped her joking expression.
She stepped forward and blocked Cheng Zhou's path.
Lu You looked at him with a serious expression, her tone unusually cold: "Mr. Cheng, please watch your words! It's none of your business how my brother is treated!"
Cheng Zhou was already intimidated by Lu Rang's demeanor, and was further startled by Lu You's sudden cold face.
He knew that calling someone a lunatic was a slip of the tongue, but the words had already been spoken. Seeing how protective Shang Wu was of Lu Rang, he felt even more bitter.
Cheng Zhou snorted and turned his head away, stubbornly pursing his lips, refusing to apologize.
"Anyway, Lu Rang is not good enough for A Wu."
Lu Rang narrowed his eyes, his knuckles cracking as he clenched his fist.
Seeing that he seemed about to hit someone, Shang Wu quickly winked at Lu You.
"Sister You, could you take Cheng Zhou out for a bit?"
Lu You sighed, knowing that now was not the time for a head-on confrontation.
She turned around and grabbed Cheng Zhou's arm without saying a word, with considerable force: "Mr. Cheng, let's go out first and let them calm down!"
Cheng Zhou wanted to say something, but Lu You glared at him warningly and stopped him.
Seeing Shang Wu's wholehearted defense of Lu Rang, he felt disheartened and superfluous. He was half-heartedly pulled out of the studio by Lu You.
Once the door closed, only Shang Wu and Lu Rang remained in the studio.
Shang Wu gently stroked Lu Rang's back, trying to help him calm down.
"It's okay, don't be angry. He just spoke without thinking. I apologize on his behalf, okay?"
Lu Rang slowly turned his head, the coldness in his eyes not yet completely gone.
But when he looked at Shang Wu, his fierce aura had dissipated, and he felt inexplicably aggrieved.
He pulled Shang Wu into a tight embrace again, his voice hoarse: "I... I won't get sick again."
What he cared about wasn't being insulted, but the risks associated with the word "mentally ill."
Because of this illness, his relationship with Shang Wu was opposed, and Shang Wu even joined forces with Lu Zheng to abandon him.
He feared any further risk of scaring away Shang Wu.
"I know, I know..."
Shang Wu hugged him back tenderly, "I won't take it to heart, don't be afraid."
Lu Rang nodded, and just as he relaxed, Shang Wu's phone, which was on the coffee table, suddenly rang.
A buzzing vibration broke the silence of the room.
Shang Wu glanced at it subconsciously, and two words flashed on the caller ID.
Qianjue.
Her heart tightened suddenly, and her nerves, which had just relaxed, tensed up again.
Why is he calling at this time?
Lu Rang also saw the caller ID. His eyes instantly turned cold, and his expression slowly became resolute.
Shang Wu looked at Lu Rang's expression with some hesitation, unsure whether she should answer the call.
Qianjue called, undoubtedly asking if Lu Rang was with her.
Lu gave her a reassuring look, let go of her, grabbed Shang Wu's still vibrating phone, pressed the answer button, and turned on speakerphone.
"Miss Shang."
Qianjue's cold and serious voice came from the other end of the phone, still in a businesslike tone, "Mr. Lu wants to speak with you."
Clearly, Lu Zheng was right next to him.
Shang Wu paused for a moment.
Lu Rang said calmly, "Qian Jue, it's me."
