Lu Yuwu fled in panic, leaving Fu Yan behind with a satisfied smile.
The next day.
Fu Yan is still resting in the infirmary.
He was listless, leaning against the headboard and gazing out the window.
Lu Yuwu was carrying light porridge and side dishes that she had just packed from a restaurant off campus. This was the scene that greeted her when she pushed open the door.
She paused for a moment.
Here, your food.
She placed the bag on the bedside table, her tone indifferent.
Fu Yan turned her head. "You've come."
His voice was a little hoarse, with a hint of dependence, "I thought you weren't coming today."
Lu Yuwu avoided his gaze and helped him open the lunchbox.
"Didn't I already promise you?"
She spoke harshly, but her actions were meticulous as she handed him the chopsticks, saying, "Eat quickly, they'll get cold."
Fu Yan took the chopsticks, but didn't touch them immediately. Instead, he looked at her with a soft gaze.
"My hands are weak; I almost dropped the water glass when I picked it up just now."
Lu Yuwu glared at him, knowing full well that he was probably faking it, but looking at his exceptionally innocent and vulnerable face, she just couldn't bring herself to refuse.
She took a deep breath, resignedly picked up the spoon, scooped up a spoonful of porridge, and held it to his lips, saying harshly, "Open your mouth!"
Fu Yan readily opened his mouth, swallowed the warm porridge, and could hardly hide the smile in his eyes.
He ate slowly and deliberately, occasionally giving instructions.
"I want to eat that side dish."
"It's a bit hot, let me blow on it."
While cursing him for pushing his luck in her heart, Lu Yuwu did as he said.
She found that her bottom line was gradually slipping away when facing the injured Fu Yan, but there was nothing she could do about it.
In the following days, Lu Yuwu seemed to become Fu Yan's personal errand boy.
She would either help him return books to the library, deliver notes he had left at home, or even patiently play a couple of mobile games with him when he complained about being bored in the hospital room.
Fu Yan takes feigning pitifulness to an extreme, always finding various reasons to keep her by his side.
Lu Yuwu complained verbally, but did not actually refuse in her actions.
Luo Luo saw through her scheme and teased her, "I think you're just all bark and no bite. You'll be completely under Fu Yan's thumb sooner or later."
Lu Yuwu blushed at her words and coughed lightly.
"I... I didn't!"
She quickly grabbed the book meant for Fu Yan and fled.
The weekend is here in the blink of an eye.
Shang Wu and Lu Rang took advantage of their free time to visit their daughter at school.
The family was having dinner at a restaurant near the school when Shang Wu noticed that her daughter seemed distracted, glancing at her phone every now and then with a hint of worry in her eyes.
"Xiaowu, what's wrong? Did you run into some trouble at school?"
Shang Wu asked gently and wiped the corner of his mouth.
Lu Yuwu came to her senses, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "It's nothing serious, it's just that... Fu Yan sprained his ankle playing basketball a few days ago and is staying at the school hospital."
"You're injured?" Shang Wu asked in surprise. "How serious is it?"
"The school doctor said it's a sprain and I need to rest," Lu Yuwu said vaguely.
Lu Rang put down his teacup, glanced at his daughter, and said calmly, "Now that we know, it's only right and proper that we go and see him. Which school hospital is he in? Let's go there after we finish eating."
After the meal, the family of three went to the school hospital.
When I knocked and went in, Fu Yan was leaning against the headboard reading a book.
Upon seeing Shang Wu and Lu Rang, he immediately put down his book, struggled to sit up straight, and showed a look of surprise on his face: "Aunt Shang, Uncle Lu, what brings you here? Please have a seat, I'm so sorry, I'm like this..."
"Don't move, don't move, just lie still." Shang Wu stepped forward, looking at his bandaged ankle with concern. "How could you be so careless? Is it badly injured? What did the doctor say?"
Fu Yan smiled and said, "I'm sorry to have worried you, Auntie and Uncle. It's just a common sprain. I'll be fine after resting for a while. It's my own fault for being careless and not paying attention when I was grabbing the ball."
His tone was sincere and his attitude was upright, making him appear like a good child who wouldn't cause his elders any worry, a stark contrast to his usual domineering and shameless demeanor in front of Lu Yuwu.
Lu Yuwu watched from the side, her lips twitching slightly, inwardly cursing this guy for being such a show-off.
Shang Wu inquired carefully about his injuries and told him to rest well and pay attention to nutrition.
Fu Yanyi obediently agreed, but then seemed to suddenly remember something and said somewhat shyly, "Aunt Shang, there's something I might need to trouble Xiaowu with. My mother just called and said there's something going on at home and she hopes I can go back tonight."
"But my foot... Uncle Wang, the driver, is also on leave today because of family matters. Could you please give me a ride back to the Fu family on your way home later?"
His eyes were clear, and his polite request was hard to refuse.
Shang Wu was already heartbroken over the child's injury, and seeing how polite he was, she immediately agreed: "It's no trouble at all, it's on the way. Xiao Wu, take Yan Yan back later, be careful on the road."
Lu Yuwu: "..."
She desperately wanted to rush up and tear off Fu Yan's facade! The Fu family wouldn't be short of drivers? It was clearly intentional!
But she couldn't lose her temper in front of her parents, so she could only grit her teeth and agree, "Okay, Mom."
Shang Wu and Lu Rang then got up to say goodbye, instructing Lu Yuwu to take good care of Fu Yan.
After leaving the school hospital and getting into the car, Shang Wu said thoughtfully to Lu Rang, "Don't you think there's a bit of a strange atmosphere between Xiao Wu and Fu Yan?"
Lu Rang started the car, looking ahead, and said in a calm tone: "The children are all grown up and have their own way of getting along. Fu Yan is deep-thinking, but he has always been very attentive to Xiao Wu."
