Shang Wu paused for a moment.
"ah?"
His parents met me privately once; they were both very nice and open-minded, completely different from the Cheng family.
Lu You paused, organizing her thoughts: "The atmosphere in their home is very warm. They are a normal intellectual family, with nothing messy or chaotic."
"Fu Mingyuan himself said that he longs for a stable family life, and we may have a more in-depth conversation recently."
Shang Wu listened quietly without interrupting.
Only after Lu You finished speaking did she softly ask, "And what about you, Sister You? Do you want to marry him? Have you thought about the stable family life he longs for?"
Lu You fell silent, the smile on her face gradually fading, her eyes becoming complicated and confused.
After a long while, she finally spoke with some difficulty, her voice lowered.
"I don't know either. Fu Mingyuan and his family are indeed very good, you can't find any fault with them, but I don't seem to have a very strong feeling of wanting to marry him."
She sighed, leaned back on the sofa, and stared blankly into space.
"Maybe it's just that we feel it's a good match. We're compatible in every way, it's easy to get along with each other, and besides, I'm already this age."
“Sister You,” Shang Wu grasped her hand, her tone becoming serious, “you’re not the kind of person who would be trapped by suitability or age and force yourself into marriage. I know you’re not.”
"If you only like someone because they have good conditions and a good family, rather than because you can't live without them, then you need to think it through. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and you can't settle for less."
"These kinds of things always have their pros and cons. If you find someone you like, your family might be in a mess and there will be constant trouble. If you find someone whose family is good, you might not like them that much and life will be like lukewarm water."
"The key question is, what kind of life do you want? What price can you afford to pay?"
Shang Wu's words seemed to have struck a chord with Lu You.
Lu You frowned deeply, her mind in turmoil.
Yes, what does she want? Can she afford the consequences of the mess the Cheng family has made?
Or should we choose the seemingly perfect standard answer?
Just as she was feeling extremely confused, her phone chimed, indicating a new message.
Lu You subconsciously picked it up and opened it; it was an update notification from her WeChat Moments.
Cheng Zhou just posted an update.
There was no caption, just a photo.
On the table of a high-end restaurant, exquisite dishes are laid out.
In one corner of the photo, a woman's hand inadvertently appears in the frame.
Her fingers were slender, with exquisitely manicured nails, and she was holding a glass of red wine.
Lu You's gaze instantly fixed on that hand, and her expression darkened almost visibly.
She slammed the phone screen down on the sofa, making a loud but not too loud noise.
Shang Wu took in her reaction and sighed silently.
Then, in a fit of pique, Lu You blocked and deleted Cheng Zhou's contact information, her actions swift and decisive.
Shang Wu opened her mouth, but ultimately did not utter a word to dissuade her.
Some knots in one's heart need to be untied by the person involved; the more others try to persuade, the more likely it is to backfire.
Shang Wu withdrew her gaze and focused her attention on her design draft.
The days that followed seemed to enter a peculiar period of calm.
Shang Wu rested at home and recovered quickly from her pregnancy thanks to the careful care of the caregiver and nutritionist.
Lu Rang practically moved his office back home, handling most matters remotely via video conferencing, staying by her side every step of the way, afraid that something unexpected might happen again.
Meanwhile, Lu You and Cheng Zhou seemed to be competing with each other, each starting new relationships.
Lu You and Fu Mingyuan's dates have become noticeably more frequent, including art exhibitions, concerts, and wine tastings; everything seems to be going well.
Cheng Zhou also updates his WeChat Moments occasionally.
Although there are no longer close-ups of women's hands, there are always pictures of meals for two or movie ticket stubs, suggesting that his relationship is going well.
Shang Wu occasionally heard some information about the Fu family from Lu You.
They were indeed from a scholarly family, gentle and polite, and very satisfied with Lu You.
As for Cheng Zhou, he heard that his marriage prospectus, Miss Zhao, was quite proactive towards him, and the two families did indeed have business dealings.
Everything seemed to be developing in a direction where everyone was doing well.
Shang Wu, however, always felt that beneath this calm surface, turbulent currents were brewing.
...
That afternoon.
Shang Wu was nestled on the sofa, eating a fruit platter prepared by the nutritionist while watching Lu Rang work on his computer.
Suddenly, a crisp doorbell rang, breaking the silence.
Lu Rang frowned, clearly displeased at being disturbed at this moment.
He put down his computer, got up and walked to the door. He glanced through the video intercom and a hint of barely perceptible resistance appeared in his eyes.
He opened the door, his voice indifferent.
Why are you here?
Standing outside the door was Lu Zheng, whose expression was serious.
He was carrying several gift boxes that looked quite expensive.
Faced with Lu Rang's undisguised unwelcomeness, Lu Zheng merely snorted coldly and swept his sharp gaze over him.
"I didn't come to see you. I came to see my grandson."
Without waiting for Lu Rang's invitation, he walked in carrying his things, his demeanor still bearing the dignity of someone who had long held a high position.
Hearing the noise, Shang Wu gestured to the caregiver to push her over.
She was somewhat surprised to see Lu Zheng.
She still greeted him politely, "Mr. Lu has arrived."
Lu Zheng's gaze fell on Shang Wu's feet as she sat in her wheelchair, and his brows immediately furrowed.
His tone was concerned, but still a bit harsh: "What happened to your foot? How did you get injured while pregnant?"
