Two bodyguards opened the villa door.
Qianjue turned to the side: "The master is waiting for you on the second floor."
Lu Rang walked in, his foot landing on the stone-gray floor. The cold air from the villa's hall rushed in, creating an unreal sense of emptiness and desolation.
This is one of the houses he used to live in, and also the place he most wanted to escape from.
The various luxurious furniture pieces were polished to a shine by the servants, while the dark mahogany door of the second-floor study seemed so out of place.
Qianjue led Lu Rang upstairs: "Remember what I just told you."
After he finished speaking, he raised his hand and knocked on the door.
Lu Rang, with a cold face, pushed the door open before him.
Qianjue was stunned for a moment, then looked nervously into the study.
Lu Zheng sat at his desk, his posture upright, his arms resting on the table, his hands folded, facing the door with an absolutely rational and stern expression.
He scrutinized Lu Rang: "Having been away from home for five years, has all your self-cultivation been eaten by dogs?"
The moment they opened their mouths, the atmosphere between the father and son became tense.
Qianjue immediately closed the door, shutting out the suffocating sense of oppression.
Lu Rang stood behind the door, his posture ramrod straight, and said without the slightest emotion, "I need to use Liu Chuangang, the president of the Supreme Inspectorate."
After saying that, Lu Zheng's face darkened, and he asked coldly, "Is this the purpose of your return after five years?"
"Yes, I need to use this person. Arrange it for me," Lu Rang answered frankly.
Lu Zheng laughed, finding it utterly absurd: "You're asking me for a favor. Lower your stance and I'll talk to you then."
"I didn't say I wouldn't exchange terms with you."
Lu Rang walked over, his steps heavy, making a harsh, unpleasant sound as he pounded on the floor.
He walked to the table and looked down at Lu Zheng: "Give me this man. He must cooperate with me unconditionally in handling the Shang family case. After it's done, I will come back and inherit the family business."
A look of surprise flashed in Lu Zheng's eyes.
Inheriting the family business.
He hadn't heard Lu Rang mention this sentence for a very long time.
Since Lu Rang left home, they had never discussed this topic.
Lu Rang finally gave in, but he wasn't happy about it.
His son, who aspired to be a lawyer, returned home for the first time in five years to speak to him in order to overturn the business case. He even offered to take over the family business and give up his current legal career.
This wasn't a sudden epiphany or a willingness to go home, nor was it a compromise for the sake of the case.
This is clearly for that woman.
Lu Zheng took a deep breath and maintained his composure: "And then? Once this case is closed, you can go home, inherit the family business, get married, and cut off all contact with those shady characters?"
"Can."
Lu Rang agreed without hesitation.
Lu Zheng paused for two seconds, thinking he had misheard: "You'd accept marriage too?"
Lu Rang: "Accept."
Lu Zheng didn't believe it: "Where is that woman from the merchant's household?"
Lu Rang paused for two seconds, then said calmly, "In short, I've found someone to marry. After the Shang family case is over, I'll go home and get married."
Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow, a smile finally appearing on his face: "How's the woman you've chosen?"
"She owns a listed company, comes from a wealthy family, has first-class management skills, is intelligent and courageous, and is straightforward. Of course, she is also very beautiful."
Lu Zheng listened with increasing satisfaction and nodded: "Hmm, not bad, this kind of person is indeed suitable to be your wife. Which family is she from?"
Lu Rang stepped forward: "You'll see when the time comes. For now, agree to my conditions."
Lu Zheng gave him a deep look, then took out his phone and called the Inspectorate.
After hanging up, he wrote down his phone number for Lu Rang.
"I will send Kindred to assist you."
Lu Rang narrowed his eyes slightly. "Is it assistance or surveillance?"
Lu Zheng's eyes held an undeniable air of authority: "If you don't agree, then don't proceed with the Shang family case."
As soon as she finished speaking, Qianjue pushed open the door and came in.
Lu Rang didn't even glance at him. "I want him to obey me completely and cooperate unconditionally."
Lu Zheng smiled: "Of course."
Qianjue was slightly taken aback.
Lu Rang turned and left: "Aren't you going to follow?"
“Sir, I…” Qianjue hesitated.
Lu Zheng nodded: "Listen to him, keep an eye on things, and make sure he doesn't have any inappropriate contact with that Shang Wu."
Qianjue took a deep breath and had no choice but to leave.
He followed Lu Rang into the car.
Lu Rang held the phone number, lowered his eyes, and said, "Go do me a favor."
"What is it?" Qianjue turned to look at him.
Lu Rang said calmly, "I want to eat European blueberries."
"What are you thinking?" Qianjue thought she had misheard.
Lu Rang stared at him intently: "I want to eat the Norwegian Aurora Forest. You go there yourself and bring back two pounds. I've booked your plane ticket. Leave right away."
Qianjue was so shocked that she couldn't speak. After a long while, she finally found her voice: "You didn't need to use such a tricky method to get rid of me!"
"Don't want to go?" Lu Rang's eyes were indifferent. "Then find a cool place to stay. If you follow me again, I'll break your legs."
The car was parked in the most remote woods in Wanhu.
Qianjue was pushed out of the car and watched it drive away, a brief look of confusion on her face.
...
The next day dawned.
Zhou Yanci went to pick up Shang Wu for work, enduring a hangover headache as she sat in the car waiting.
Upon seeing Shang Wu emerge, he immediately got out of the car and went to help her open the passenger door.
As soon as Shang Wu got in, she heard him complain, "A-Wu, why won't you let me in? Your parents live inside, and I can't even go inside the house. What kind of behavior is that? I haven't even had a chance to give them all the gifts in the trunk."
"They are light sleepers, so don't go in and disturb them. There will be plenty of time to give them the gifts."
Shang Wu gave a perfunctory reply and glanced at the chat interface on her phone.
