Ye Haiming paused for a moment, then smiled and said:
“There are no conditions. Dad just thinks you’re grown up and should have your own career. Besides, you’re my daughter, and the Ye Group will be handed over to you sooner or later.”
Ye Huanhuan did not believe him.
"Dad, you don't need to beat around the bush with me. Just tell me what you want to say. What exactly is your purpose?"
Ye Haiming's gaze darted away, his face showing obvious guilt. He still didn't reveal his intentions, and said to Ye Huanhuan:
"Huanhuan, it's good that you're home. Dad really didn't have any ulterior motives. You're overthinking it."
Ye Huanhuan said, "Dad, don't lie to me. If you still refuse to tell me the truth, then I'll leave now."
After saying that, she stood up, as if preparing to leave.
Just then, Tang Yi's car pulled up in front of the Ye family's villa. He got out of the car and went into the living room.
When Ye Haiming saw Tang Yi, his eyes lit up as if he had seen a savior.
He greeted Tang Yi with great enthusiasm, "Tang Yi is here! Come, come, have a seat!"
Tang Yi greeted Ye Haiming with a few lukewarm words, then went directly to Ye Huanhuan and asked her, "What's wrong, Huanhuan? Did something happen?"
Ye Huanhuan didn't hide anything and told Tang Yi what had happened. After listening, Tang Yi asked Ye Haiming:
"It seems that you, father-in-law, are aware that the mayor is keeping an eye on the Ye Group, is that right?"
Upon hearing this, everyone present reacted differently. Ye Huanhuan's eyes were full of confusion, while Gao Yalan looked shocked, clearly unaware of the matter.
Ye Haiming was somewhat flustered. He glanced at Gao Yalan and hurriedly instructed Wu Ma, "Wu Ma, take Madam upstairs to rest."
Yes, he didn't want Gao Yalan to know about this matter, as it concerned the future of the Ye family. He was worried that Gao Yalan would be agitated and her condition would worsen.
Gao Yalan looked worried and couldn't help but ask Ye Haiming, "Honey... what happened? Why would the mayor target our Ye family?"
Ye Haiming reassured her, "It's alright, you don't need to worry about this. Go upstairs and rest first. Huanhuan, Tang Yi, and I will have a good talk. With them here, the Ye family will be fine. Don't worry."
Gao Yalan didn't know what else to say. She was currently ill, and knowing too much wouldn't be a good thing for her. She sighed and turned to Ye Huanhuan, saying:
"Huanhuan, stay home for dinner tonight. Mom will have Aunt Wu make you your favorite chicken soup. You've gotten so thin since I last saw you. If you don't eat properly, your baby won't get enough nutrition. You and your dad can have a good talk. Mom is going upstairs to rest now."
Ye Huanhuan felt a warmth in her heart and nodded obediently: "Okay, I understand. Mom, you go ahead. After dinner, I'll push you around in the yard for a walk."
Gao Yalan nodded with relief, but then added with some concern to Ye Huanhuan, "Talk things out calmly, don't argue with your father."
Ye Huanhuan replied, "I understand, I won't make a fuss."
After Gao Yalan went upstairs, Ye Haiming finally spoke, asking Tang Yi:
"Tang Yi, how...did you find out about this?"
Tang Yi said expressionlessly, "How I found out about this is none of your concern, Father-in-law. You called Huanhuan back today under Mother-in-law's name just so I could help you deal with this matter?"
Ye Haiming sighed and stopped pretending. "Since you already know, there's nothing more to hide. I gave Huanhuan 20% of the shares in the hope that you could help me put in a good word with the mayor and ask him to let our Ye family off the hook."
Ye Huanhuan was taken aback, but immediately understood Ye Haiming's plan.
No wonder her father was so kind as to suddenly decide to give her 20% of the shares; it turns out he wanted Tang Yi to help.
Tang Yi said, "Father-in-law, it's not that I can't help, but giving Huanhuan only 20% of the shares is a bit too little. Do you think we should add more?"
Ye Haiming's expression changed, and he immediately looked troubled: "Tang Yi, 20% of the shares is already quite a lot. Adding Huanhuan's 10% share, she is now the second largest shareholder of Ye's Group."
As the chairman of the group, he only owns 40% of the shares. Of the 20% he contributed, 10% belongs to him and the other 10% belongs to Gao Yalan.
Tang Yi chuckled lightly and stated bluntly, "Father-in-law, do you think 20% of the shares is a lot? You should be well aware of the magnitude of the crisis facing the Ye Group right now. Without my help, the Ye Group might very well face bankruptcy like the Dingsheng Group did back then. I remember that you personally built this Ye Group; are you really willing to watch it be destroyed?"
Ye Haiming fell silent; of course he didn't want to!
However, the other party was the mayor with immense power, while he was just a businessman with weak foundations. The high-ranking official in City S whom he supported with money was the mayor's subordinate. Faced with the crisis at hand, he had no ability to resist at all.
He gritted his teeth and asked with difficulty, "Okay, how much do you want?"
Tang Yi held up three fingers, "30%."
30%?!
Ye Haiming's eyes widened, clearly annoyed: "Tang Yi, you're taking advantage of my misfortune!"
Tang Yi shook his head. "Father-in-law, I'm not taking advantage of your misfortune; I'm helping you. If the Ye Group goes bankrupt, it won't benefit you or Huanhuan."
Ye Haiming hesitated for a long time, but finally agreed to Tang Yi's conditions.
"Alright, 30% it is. I hope you can keep your word and help the Ye Group get through this crisis."
Tang Yi smiled with satisfaction. "Father-in-law, don't worry, I will do my best. However..."
His gaze turned cold, a chilling light flashing in his eyes, as he warned Ye Haiming:
"I hope you will stop using Huanhuan in the future. She is my wife, not a tool for you to exchange for benefits."
Ye Haiming looked embarrassed. He glanced guiltily at Ye Huanhuan and nodded in response:
"I understand, it won't happen again."
Looking at Tang Yi, Ye Huanhuan felt a surge of warmth in her heart.
She knew Tang Yi did this for her sake. She gently scratched Tang Yi's palm with her fingertips, then leaned close to his ear and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear:
"Thank you, honey,"
Tang Yi smiled slightly, his eyes full of doting as he looked at Ye Huanhuan, and he tightened his grip on her hand.
