Xiao Hua glanced at He Yan. This time, she really owed him a huge favor, which probably couldn't be repaid with just one meal.
"Anyway, I still want to thank you for making this trip for me!"
Ye Dazhuang and Mao Dani raised four sons, but none of them could take good care of the elderly couple, not even as well as their former son-in-law, He Yan.
It can't be said that her four brothers were unfilial to their parents, but rather that they lacked the ability and were willing but unable to do so. But where would ordinary people at the bottom of society get such ability?
There aren't that many connections. At most, you might have a relative who's a teacher, a relative who's a local police officer, or a relative at the town's health center. That's already pretty good.
He Yan's family has relatives in various systems, and they can get things done for him as long as he asks.
This isn't the first time Xiaohua has learned about the benefits of being superior to others.
The He Yan family are the elite.
She began to examine her relationship with He Yan. What was the use of being proud and aloof? If she had no relationship with He Yan, her father's illness and her mother's leg would probably have been delayed. Even if she begged and pleaded everywhere, she probably wouldn't have been able to enjoy such good medical care.
“I said it was all for Kang An’s sake, you don’t need to be so formal with me.”
He Yan disliked Xiao Hua's formality towards him, feeling that the two were like ordinary friends, not like a couple who had been married.
"I'm not being formal with you, and I should thank you out of politeness. No matter who you're doing this for, I'm the one who benefits. If you hadn't helped me, I would have had to drop everything and go back."
Xiaohua isn't the kind of person who doesn't appreciate kindness. If someone helps you, you shouldn't act like it's their duty.
"You really want to thank me?"
He Yan suddenly leaned in with a cheeky grin.
Xiao Hua had a gut feeling that he wasn't up to anything.
"What do you want from me? What benefits are you hoping to gain?"
He Yan looked all smiles.
"I dare not think about the benefits, but my birthday is coming up soon. Could you give me a birthday present and have a big birthday dinner with me without the kids?"
He Yan thought his request wasn't too much to ask.
Xiaohua thought this request was acceptable and not excessive.
"What kind of gift do you want? Tell me and I'll buy it for you."
"If you give someone a gift and then ask them what they want, then there's no surprise. Actually, I'll be happy with any gift you give me, as long as it's from you."
If there's one gift He Yan particularly wants, it's Xiao Hua. If Xiao Hua gave herself to him, he'd be happiest, and that would be the best birthday present. Of course, he wouldn't dare mention this shameless request, for fear of being bombarded with insults.
"Isn't the point of giving a gift to someone who likes it? I'm afraid if I just prepare something random, you might not like it or need it, which would be a waste. Just tell me what you want and I'll go buy it."
Xiaohua's behavior actually stems from not wanting to put in the effort to prepare anything for him. She's trying to figure out what gift to give him. A watch wouldn't be a good idea, as it seems ambiguous; a tie wouldn't be a good idea either, as it seems ambiguous.
I'm too lazy to pick out clothes for him; I might as well just tell him what to buy and I'll buy it for him.
"How could I not like it? I'd like anything from you, even a single strand of your hair. But you have to make me name something, and then you'll give it to me, right? You definitely won't!"
Xiaohua suddenly became interested when she heard him say that.
"Tell me what you want first, and I definitely won't give it to you. You can't expect me to give you a house, can you?"
Xiao Hua thought this person didn't seem like a greedy person; he wouldn't ask for such an exorbitant amount.
"It's not like I don't have a place to live, why would I ask you to give me a house?"
He Yan muttered to himself.
"What do you want? As long as it's not an outrageous request, I'll give it to you. You've helped me a lot along the way."
Xiaohua genuinely wanted to thank him and wanted to give him an expensive gift.
He Yan stared at her: "I want you, will you give yourself to me?"
Xiaohua: "Here you go, you big-headed devil, get out of here!"
He Yan retorted, not to be outdone, "Hmph, who wants you? You're just kidding, you actually took it seriously."
"Since you can't think of anything you want, you'll have to accept whatever I give you, and you can't say the gift is bad!"
He Yan retorted, "Do I look like that person? Even if you gave me a pile of poop, I would still think it smells good."
Xiaohua frowned and glanced at him: "Disgusting."
As the two bickered, He Yan felt that he and Xiao Hua were getting closer and closer.
Mao Dani's surgery was a success. She was wheeled to her ward, and Xiao Hua and He Yan quickly followed.
Mao Dani, you and Ye Dazhuang now see He Yan as if he were your own son.
The four sons in the family were all picked up from the roadside, and now they get angry just looking at them.
"He Yan, your mother really owes a lot to you. You found such a good doctor in such a good hospital to perform this surgery. The doctor just told me that she will be able to walk again in about two months."
Ye Dazhuang. Grabbing He Yan's hand, his gratitude was beyond words. Mao Dani looked at He Yan with tears in her eyes.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that they are extremely grateful to He Yan.
"Mom and Dad, don't be so polite with me. We're all family. They say a son-in-law is like half a son. Even though Xiaohua and I are separated for now, once a son, always a son. I treat you as my own parents. As a son, it's only right for me to do something silly for my parents. If you keep saying these formal things to me, it means you're becoming distant."
Xiaohua frowned instead of being moved by his words. What did he mean by "once a son, always a son"? How did he become so eloquent?
“He Yan is right, we are family.”
After Ye Dazhuang finished speaking, he pulled Xiaohua over.
“Look how sensible He Yan is. You’re just making trouble all day long. Go back to your marriage with He Yan as soon as possible and stop making trouble. If you keep making trouble, your mother and I will never forgive you.”
Xiaohua wanted to argue, but considering that her parents were not in good health, she decided to keep quiet.
"Mom and Dad, don't pressure Xiaohua now. Once she forgives me, she will naturally remarry me. It was wrong of me to do that before, so it's understandable that she's angry with me. We will remarry in the future, so please don't rush us."
After He Yan finished speaking, he glanced at Xiao Hua, afraid that she would be angry.
"Don't worry about He Yan and me. We're two adults, we can take care of ourselves. Just take good care of yourselves and don't make us worry."
