Chapter 11: Be patient and endure
"I'm out, I'm really out!" Feifei excitedly pulled Qiuxuan, "My heart is still pounding!"
Qiu Xuan listened carefully to the noise outside. Jing Beian did what he said, and the carriage followed her orders and drove towards the Princess's Mansion.
"I'll definitely tell the princess that you saved me!" Feifei gushed, "I'll definitely get you a divorce."
Qiu Xuan shook Fei Fei's hand and said, "We'll talk about this later. Do you want to take a break first?"
"I'm not tired." Feifei stretched and said excitedly, "I'm going to eat meat first! Barbecue! I don't want to drink that cheesy soup anymore!"
The bright smile on Feifei's face was like a small sun rising in the carriage, illuminating the road ahead without any haze.
"We're almost there." As soon as Qiu Xuan finished speaking, the carriage slowed down.
"Madam, we're here." The driver's poor official language was heard outside.
Qiu Xuan opened the carriage curtain and said to Fei Fei, "Go ahead."
Feifei jumped out of the car, turned around and tried to pull Qiuxuan back: "You come too, why don't you just run away like this? No one will dare to catch you at the Princess's Mansion."
Qiu Xuan smiled and shook his head: "Let's go, it will be dawn if we dawdle any longer, and I will be easily discovered when I go back."
She said as she gently pushed Feifei's hand away: "Don't worry about me, go quickly."
"Then wait for me."
Qiu Xuan watched Feifei knock on the eldest princess's door, and only breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her being taken in by the servants.
"Madam, are you going back home?"
"Heading west, I finally got out, I want to relax."
The carriage moved slowly, and more and more people came into the street. Freshly baked breakfast was steaming with sweet aroma, and the sounds of hawkers shouting were endless.
Qiuxuan gave the driver some money and told him to go to the wonton stall under the poplar tree to eat something.
I sat quietly in the carriage, looking at the osmanthus tree over the wall.
In just a blink of an eye, the slightly yellow leaves of the osmanthus tree were dyed with the golden light of the morning light.
The driver came back.
"Go back." Qiu Xuan said softly.
"I heard that this mansion was awarded to that male wizard by the emperor." said the coachman.
"I understand." Qiu Xuan nodded.
The carriage slowly drove away, and Qiu Xuan couldn't help but look back at her former home.
She will get it back.
*
By the time they returned to the mansion, it was already daybreak. The corner gate was open, and Zhemei and several of the old lady's maids were on guard.
Seeing Qiuxuan getting off the carriage, Zhemei silently chanted a Buddhist name and hurried to meet him.
"Madam..."
"Go and pay your respects to the old lady."
Zhemei followed Qiuxuan closely and whispered, "The old lady is very angry. Do you want to pretend to be sick..."
"Let's go quickly."
Everyone was there except Jing Beian. Even Jing Youan, who was usually elusive, was hiding in his seat below his sister.
Seeing Qiuxuan come in, he immediately said, "Mom, look, my sister-in-law is here. Which girl said she ran away? That's all nonsense..."
Jing Youzhen quickly kicked him to shut him up.
The old lady held the tea bowl in her hand, the tea was steaming, but she was not in a hurry to drink it, she just held it there.
"Mother." Qiu Xuan slowly stepped forward, half-knelt in front of the old lady, and gently placed her hand on her knee.
"Where did the girl go?"
"Send the princess back to the Princess's residence."
"Hmph." The old lady sneered and dropped the tea bowl.
The tea bowl hit Qiuxuan's hand. She didn't dodge or evade, and all the steaming hot tea poured onto her arm.
"Oh." Jing Youzhen hurried forward.
"Everyone, sit down!" the old lady shouted angrily. She grabbed Qiu Xuan's hand tightly. "How dare you carry me on your back? How did you manage to escape with her?"
"I don't understand what mother means." Qiu Xuan said softly, "The princess just misses Her Royal Highness the Princess and wants to go back to visit her."
"Yes, mother." Jing Youzhen agreed, "The princess is still pregnant. Worrying too much won't be good for the child. Why not let her stay at her parents' home for a few days..."
"Shut up!" The old lady poked Jing Youzhen's nose, "You have no right to speak here!"
Qiu Xuan shook her head at Jing Youzhen, indicating that she didn't need to worry about her.
"Tell me! Why did you help the princess escape!" The old lady slammed Qiuxuan's hand hard on the corner of the table.
"How can going back to her parents' home be considered running away?" Qiu Xuan endured the pain and said word by word, "The princess is not me, she has nowhere to go. Since she wants to go back, why should the Marquis' Mansion stop her?"
"You're a traitorous bitch..." The old lady reached out and grabbed Qiu Xuan's hair.
"Mother, please calm down. This matter should indeed be addressed to you first." Qiu Xuan hid as she spoke, "But you've already gone to bed, so I can't disturb you. The princess is crying so hard, so I decided to send her back first."
"Mom, my sister-in-law did nothing wrong..." Jing Youan was glared at by his sister a few times, so he had to bite the bullet and speak up for Qiu Xuan, "Isn't it because they're afraid that she'll make you sick?"
"What do you know!" The old lady was so angry that she couldn't breathe. Zhemei quickly took the maids over and rubbed her back and shoulders.
Qiu Xuan understood everything that was happening in the Marquis' Mansion. The old lady had not told Jing Youzhen, nor even Jing Youan.
Since she doesn't want to talk about it, then just let her bear it by herself.
"Just give in." Zhemei took the time to softly persuade Qiuxuan.
This isn't something that can be fixed by just giving in.
"Come here, tie her up and take her to the woodshed!"
"Madam, Madam, someone is coming from the Princess's Mansion!"
"Who's coming?" the old lady asked sternly.
"It was Xu Fuling. She sent the princess back."
Everyone was in chaos and no one noticed Qiu Xuan's body suddenly collapsed.
In the end, she won the bet.
It is true that the eldest princess likes Feifei, but in order to pave the way for Jiang Jue, what does an adopted daughter mean to her?
"Please go to the flower hall." The old lady stood up quickly and stretched out her hand to grope forward. "Youzhen, accompany me to meet the guests."
"Yes, mother."
Jing Youzhen supported the old lady and winked at Qiuxuan, telling her to leave quickly.
Only after the old lady left did Jing Youan dare to speak.
"Should we lock up my sister-in-law in the woodshed?"
"Fourth Master is really good at telling jokes," Zhemei said quickly, "Old Madam was just swearing in anger, how could you take it so seriously? If you really wanted to send Madam to the woodshed, then Old Madam would scold us."
As he said this, he helped Qiuxuan up.
"Ma'am, let me help you go back to the house and rest for a while."
Qiu Xuan nodded and asked Jing Youan, "Fourth brother, do you know where the Marquis is?"
"It seems that my second brother is out of town."
Qiu Xuan asked unexpectedly, and Jing Youan told everything without any preparation.
"This morning I saw my second brother preparing his horses. He said he was going out of town to hunt, and he said he was going secretly, and asked me not to tell anyone at home."
Jing Youan scratched his head embarrassedly: "Sister-in-law, please don't tell my second brother that it was me who said that."
Qiu Xuan responded with a smile.
When Qiu Xuan returned to her courtyard, it was already filled with boxes. The woman who brought the boxes was about thirty years old, and Qiu Xuan knew her.
"Hello, Mr. Xu."
"Mr. Qiu, it's been a long time since we last met."
"The eldest princess said that she would like to thank Mr. Qiu for this time." As he spoke, the man in the eldest princess's mansion took out a booklet from his arms.
"This is the gift list. Please check it carefully, Mr. Qiu."
"I save it."
"It's time for me to leave. Mr. Qiu, please don't see me off... Take care." After saying that, Mr. Xu led his servants away.
"Madam, let me apply medicine for you first." Zhemei's eyes were fixed on the beautiful cloth in the box, but she did not forget her duties.
"Just check the items and make a list." Qiu Xuan patted her hands. "I can apply the medicine myself."
"Then I'll go find Gan Tang. I don't know where this little girl went to play again."
"Go ahead."
Qiu Xuan was the only one left in the room. She rolled up her sleeves. Fortunately, the tea was not very hot and she was covered by several layers of clothes. Apart from a little redness, there was no trace of her wound.
She opened the gift list and found a note lying quietly inside.
"The Qiu clan is still in the north."
