Chapter 2 The Princess is Unhappy
"Have you thought it through? The longer you delay, the worse it will be for you and me."
It was Jing Beian who entered the room. He went straight into the bedroom. The old women behind him stood trembling in the yard, waiting for their fate.
Princess Feifei raised her foot to kick him, but Jing Beian dodged it.
"Behave yourself! Don't think I dare not do anything to you." Jing Bei'an untied the cloth from the princess's mouth and pinched her cheeks hard. "We are grasshoppers on the same rope. Don't ask for trouble."
Princess Feifei turned her head to break free from the restraints. She did not shout loudly, but raised her hand to let Jing Beian untie the chains on her hands.
"Is this what you mean by 'we're all in this together'?"
"Better safe than sorry." Jing Beian took out the key, and Princess Feifei immediately reached out to grab it. The former raised her hand high and then threw the key out.
Princess Feifei watched helplessly as the key fell into a large vase as tall as a person, making a crisp sound.
"You despicable villain!" Princess Feifei raised her foot and kicked Jing Beian's knee. "This is not what we agreed on!"
"The situation in the capital is also different from what Your Highness said." Jing Beian looked around and his eyes fell on the half-open window. "Calm down, don't be crazy. If you can control your mouth, why should I restrain you?"
"Calm down!" Princess Feifei punched Jing Bei'an hard. "I can wait, but can the child wait?"
Jing Beian ignored Princess Feifei's anger. He walked to the window, leaned against the window frame, and seemed to be lost in thought.
"Why is the window open?"
"You ask me, why should I ask a ghost?"
Jing Beian frowned slightly. He opened the window and looked out. It was dark there, with only the rustling sound of wind blowing through the bamboo forest.
Qiuxuan ran away early.
The moment Jing Beian's voice came, she ran away.
There were a few blue bricks piled in the corner of the wall. She used the bricks to flip over and ran back to her residence in one breath, not even daring to look back.
Everything was peaceful and quiet at her residence, and Gan Tang was waiting for her at the door.
"Sister Zhemei came back and watched through the window for a while." Gan Tang helped Qiuxuan change her dirty clothes. "I didn't say anything, and she left."
Qiu Xuan nodded, grabbed the teapot on the table, took a sip of cold tea, and then calmed down.
"You went out at night without telling me." Gan Tang complained with a pout.
"If I get caught, you can still claim you didn't know." Qiu Xuan touched Gan Tang's head.
The old lady would not allow the servants in the mansion to bully Qiu Xuan, nor would she tolerate the servants in the marquis' mansion helping Qiu Xuan to do something under her nose.
"I'm not afraid even if you send me to the farm," Gan Tang packed up the dirty clothes and hid them among the clean clothes.
"No," Qiu Xuan said softly, "I can't bear to see you go."
The figure of a night patrolman was reflected on the window. Qiu Xuan signaled Gan Tang to be quiet and quickly lay back on the bed.
The bed curtains blocked off a small, quiet space. Qiu Xuan let out a long breath, loosened her hand, and the dagger that had been heated by her grip fell into the quilt.
how so.
Qiu Xuan rubbed his stiff fingers.
"Fake...Jing Bei'an..."
But why did no one in the mansion expose him?
The pain in her fingers cleared Qiu Xuan's mind. It was such a stupid question. Three years in the Marquis' Mansion had shut her mind down.
The third lady told Qiu Xuan that after the death of her eldest son, the old lady consulted a sorcerer for divination, after which she adopted a child from a side branch and named him Jing Beian, to inherit the old marquis's title.
The old lady was very cold towards her new son, and Jing Beian soon went to the military camp. Not many people in the Marquis' Mansion had actually seen him.
As for the old lady, her eyesight has been getting worse over the years, and perhaps she has completely lost her sight.
"She and the eldest princess were both deceived..."
Could it be that she was willing to marry into the Marquis's Mansion only because Jing Beian promised her the position of Marquis's wife?
Qiu Xuan didn't think that a princess with great military achievements would be interested in the identity of the mistress of the marquis's mansion.
It can't be that she has a crush on Jing Beian, so there's no need for her to marry into the family.
Or is what the princess said false?
Qiu Xuan tossed and turned all night, and even in his dreams he saw Jing Bei'an and the princess talking about things that were hard to tell whether true or false.
When she woke up the next day, she was worried to find a scratch on the palm of her left hand, which she thought was caused by climbing over the wall last night.
Before Qiu Xuan had time to treat his wound, someone came outside to report that Sanniang was coming.
"You got up late today."
Jing Youzhen looked at Qiuxuan, whose hair was not even combed, and smiled.
"Why did you wake up so early?"
Qiu Xuan dressed up calmly under her gaze.
"The storybook is so interesting that I didn't sleep all night." Jing Youzhen stretched and almost bumped into the maid who came in with a basin of water.
Qiu Xuan smiled and glanced at her: "Have you finished reading?"
"It's still early," Jing Youzhen said, helping the maid put the basin back in its place. "I'm afraid I won't be able to finish reading it before I get married." She sighed, "And after I get married, I won't have time to read it either."
"How could that be?"
"Just look at yourself and you'll know," Jing Youzhen said sternly, "You don't even have to take care of your parents-in-law and raise children, and you still have so much to do every day." Then she sighed, "Look, you've got another headache now."
Qiu Xuan said nothing, but raised her hand to refuse the red jade hairpin handed to her by Zhemei, and chose the sandalwood hairpin she usually wore.
"If I get married, there won't be anyone at home who shares your hatred for the enemy." Jing Youzhen played with the incense ball on the table. "I thought, since we are so close, I should at least help you beat that guy up so that you won't be bullied."
"Do you want to see what the princess looks like?"
"That's right, everyone says she's beautiful. Oh, no, no, I just went to help you vent your anger."
Qiuxuan put down the comb in her hand.
"Okay."
*
"What's good about that? You're a girl getting married, but instead of preparing your dowry, you're meddling in your brother's affairs?"
The old lady slammed her chopsticks on the chopstick pillow, startling Jing Youzhen. But she quickly moved closer to the old lady and acted coquettishly, "Mother, I'm just curious about what the princess looks like."
"The princess is not feeling well, don't bother her, go and do your thing."
It turned out that Jing Beian used this excuse. Qiu Xuan wondered whether he should tell the old lady what happened last night.
Jing Youzhen gave Qiuxuan a few glances, all of which flew to the blind man. The old lady coughed twice more, and she fled like a mouse hearing a cat's meow.
Qiu Xuan took the tea bowl from the maid and handed it to the old lady with both hands.
"Today's tea is a little weak," the old lady took a sip of tea and casually handed it to the maid. "That's good. The weather has been so hot and cold these past few days, which has made me very irritable. Drinking some light tea can calm my mind."
As she spoke, the old lady suddenly grabbed Qiu Xuan's left hand, turned over her palm, and rubbed the wound on Qiu Xuan's palm with her rough fingers, causing blood to seep out again.
"Where did the girl go last night?"
