Chapter 23: Clamping its Beak
"That's a solution." Solve the problem from the root.
"Don't take it seriously, I'm just joking."
Seeing Qiu Xuan lowering his head in deep thought, Fei Fei quickly changed her tone, "I heard from the Princess that he's also a favorite of His Majesty. Besides, Wu Zhuang is his biological sister. If you kill him, they won't let you go."
"Besides," Feifei waved her hand in front of Qiuxuan, "He's the leader of this gang of shamans in Dadu, right? If he dies, these shamans will be leaderless, and who knows what kind of trouble they'll cause."
Qiu Xuan looked at Feifei's serious expression and knew that she really disagreed with this idea.
"Just as the army needs strongmen to suppress the soldiers, otherwise they will become like armed hooligans, committing all kinds of evil."
"Yes, yes, you can draw inferences about other situations." Feifei was very happy to see Qiuxuan understood what she meant, and continued:
"So, we'd better hand Liu Hui over... This... This is of course the last resort."
Seeing Qiuxuan frowning, Feifei quickly changed her words.
Qiu Xuan wanted to tease her and said with a smile, "What other clever ideas does the princess have?"
"You're still in the mood to laugh, what can I do?" Feifei said, unwilling to insist. "If it were the army, whoever has the bigger fist would have the final say. But this isn't Liangzhou. Everyone speaks and acts in a roundabout way. It's so troublesome."
"Actually, it would be best if everyone thought Liu Hui was dead." Qiu Xuan said softly.
Feifei clapped her hands in sudden realization: "You're really smart. Should we start spreading rumors right now?"
"Just rumors are not convincing enough. We need to at least find a body."
"Looking for Ji Tiao." Feifei looked at Qiu Xuan with her hands on her cheeks.
"What?"
"Ji Tiao knows a bone collector, he will definitely be able to get the body."
Qiu Xuan shook her head: "It's better not to let others know."
"He's not an outsider. If his brother hadn't caused this trouble, we would have gone outside the city to enjoy the maple leaves, and wouldn't have to stay in the mansion like prisoners."
Feifei is going crazy in the Marquis' Mansion.
"How did you manage to stay away from the Marquis' Mansion for three years? You don't even keep in touch with your friends?"
"I was supposed to be exiled, have you forgotten?" Qiu Xuan laughed dumbly. "The old lady took me in, so I could stay in Dadu. The empress dowager looked down on our family and turned a blind eye, letting me go. If I had continued to act arrogantly in Dadu, wouldn't I have been openly defying the empress dowager's order?"
Feifei stared at Qiuxuan blankly: "It's too complicated. I'm surprised you figured it out."
She placed her hands in front of Qiu Xuan and said, "Let's talk about something I can understand."
"What's up?"
"Ji Tiao," Fei Fei slammed the table, "Ever since he found out you were in the Marquis' Mansion, he's sent you gifts, both openly and covertly, countless times."
"Just as you said," Qiu Xuan patted Feifei's hand and pressed a candied fruit into her palm. "His brother caused me so much trouble. How can he not thank me properly?"
"That's not what I meant. Forget it, you don't want to discuss this." Feifei took a bite of candied fruit. "What are you going to do about the corpse?"
"Go straight to the bone collector."
"That's a solution." Feifei nodded.
"How are you and the Fourth Prince?" Qiu Xuan picked a fruit for herself.
Feifei came up to Qiuxuan and teased, "I thought you had no interest in love affairs."
Without waiting for Qiuxuan to say anything else, Feifei started to tell everything.
"Jiang Jue has explained a lot to me, and I think I've figured it all out. If he wants to be emperor, he must marry Xiao Mianzhi. Even if it's not Xiao Mianzhi, then she has to be a girl from an aristocratic family of equal status.
I've thought of a way out for myself. If Jiang Jue really can't marry me, then I'll go back to Liangzhou. The princess will definitely be happy to see me go back."
She touched her belly, her expression softening: "I can raise the child in Liangzhou."
"But," her tone suddenly became high-spirited, "before that, I have to finish what I promised you. I will help you divorce your husband and get out of the house first."
"Divorce your husband?" Qiu Xuan was stunned for a moment. "Just divorce."
"You'll get a larger share of the property after the divorce. Jiang Jue told me this," Fei Fei said sternly. "When you leave the Marquisate, whether you're going to the north to find your relatives or to start your own business in the capital, you'll need money to support yourself. You don't have a dowry, so how will you live after the divorce?"
It sounds to me like there's some personal grudge involved.
"Your Highness the Fourth Prince said so?"
"Of course." Feifei nodded. "Jiang Jue said that the Qiu family was loyal to the queen in the past, and he couldn't treat loyal officials badly."
"Then... then I would like to thank Your Highness here."
Qiu Xuan was a little confused as to why the Yunyang Marquisate was trampling on its reputation for the sake of the Qiu family.
"Don't worry about what that impostor will do." Feifei waved her fist. "He lied to you first, and you helped him gain a foothold. He's lucky to have met someone as nice as you."
"You're still trying to tie you down with this ridiculous engagement? Don't even think about it." Feifei waved her sleeves. "You've been staying in the Marquis' Mansion for so many years. It's already been hard enough. If it were me, I'd go crazy after staying in this little courtyard for a month."
"Do you have a grudge against Jing Beian? You look like you want to beat him up." Qiu Xuan said with a smile.
"Who told him to lie to me?" Feifei put down her hand and sat up straight. "But he wasn't like this before. He's changed a lot since coming to Dadu. He's become really annoying."
"What's his real name?" Qiu Xuan suddenly became curious.
“He…”
"Madam." Gan Tang leaned on the pillar of the pavilion and peeked out.
"Let's all go back." Qiu Xuan stood up and reached out to pull Feifei up, "Let's go back."
"Really? How can we live if we have to be so cautious every day?" Feifei said dissatisfiedly.
"Better safe than sorry." Qiu Xuan comforted.
After Jiang Jinhan revealed the deal between the old lady and the witch, Qiu Xuan became much more cautious.
Fortunately, the eldest princess did not intend to ignore Feifei and sent her confidant to take care of her.
"The day is still long, what are you going back for?" Feifei asked.
"Feed the cat."
*
When the cat saw Qiuxuan, it jumped out of Liu Hui's arms, waddled over to Qiuxuan's feet and rubbed against them.
"Madam Qiu..." Liu Hui stood up to greet her.
"Just call me Qiuxuan." Qiuxuan took the cat into her arms. The little thing's belly was round and plump from eating so much.
"Qiu Xuan, I know what happened outside."
Qiu Xuan glanced at Gan Tang behind him. Gan Tang covered his mouth and shook his head: "Madam, you are wronging me."
"You misunderstood. It was the Fourth Young Master of your house..." Liu Hui clenched her hands nervously. "He was chatting with his servants outside the courtyard wall, and I accidentally overheard them."
"...Let's sit down and talk first."
"I know a lot of people died because of me," Liu Hui said anxiously, "I didn't expect things to get this far."
"If I show up, will people stop dying?"
Liu Hui made up her mind: "Hand me over."
